Personally, Matt thought kimonos were awkward. But they were pretty. "S'long as I don't have to wear one," he muttered.

"But you'd look so cute in one," Kurama teased. "Something pink, with little pixel designs all over it. Or triforce patterns."

"And peaches and mushrooms," I add blandly. "Maybe even kitties," I say as we pass a ridiculously pink store featuring a white cat. Obnoxious.

"Tell you what. You find a kimono maker that will willingly put that on a kimono, I'll wear it our next trip."

From:

"I know a guy who knows a guy," Kurama grinned. Granted, both guys were extreme queens, and they probably didn't even exist in this universe, but it was worth a shot. "But it would take a while."

"I'd think the hardest part would be finding the right shade of pink. I mean, with that red hair of yours," I say, looking at Kurama. "I hear mauve is quite becoming."

"That's it. We're dyeing your hair pink." Serves Mello right.

From:

"No, we are dyeing it rainbow." Without even taking a glance around to see if anyone was watching, he cast a charm at Mello's hair. If it hit, Mello would be sporting the circus clown look. All the giddy highschoolers in the shopping district would love it.

If it hadn't been for all the practice I'd done, I might have missed Kurama casting the spell, but practice will improve reflexes. Whatever it was, it hit a shield charm. I counter with a charm to make his clothes the nastiest shade of green-brown I can think of and a one finger salute. "Touch my hair," I say to Matt, "and you'll find yourself wanting part of your body to work."

Matt shrugged. What he had in mind was more...permament. Of course, he'll have to drug Mello to do it.

Kurama (who had been practicing counterspells specifically for this reason) undid the charm on his clothes and scowled at Mello. He'd get that brat one of these days.

I smile sweetly at Kurama and then see over his shoulder... "I think that's what you're looking for," I say. In the window are several bolts of fabric.

From:

Uninterested in the least, Matt pulled his GBA out again and started playing.

Kurama chuckled at Matt and entered the store. They were right on the edge of the big shopping district of the city, so he wasn't surprised at the place. it was well-stocked, both in traditional and more contemporary styles of fabric. "And you?" He said, turning to Mello. "Don't tell me you're interested in a kimono, or are you just going to snipe at me while I look?"

"Yes," I reply, letting him guess at which it meant.

Kurama elbowed him and strolled among the bolts of fabric. There wasn't anything remotely similar to the ruined obi, but there were dark blues and greens close to or exactly the same shade that Kusuriyuri preferred.

And, of course, there was that nagging memory of Yukimura telling him that he should try a kimono sometime. Which would be interesting, if it wasn't also embarrassing.

"May I ask why we're looking for kimono fabric and why you're upset about it? You mentioned that Kusu had been hurt, but...?" I say softly. I put my hands in my pockets and follow him.

Kurama paused. There was no reason to keep Mello in the dark, no matter how much he disliked the subject. After all, part of the reason they'd taken this trip was to try and work out the problem of Karasu.

"Karasu hurt him badly, enough to sear right through his clothing. It irritates me mostly because Kusuriyuri was harmed but also..." he sighed, running his hands down a bolt of heavy silk. "His robes are part of his old life, something that makes him comfortable and helps him connect to 'home.' He doesn't feel right in modern dress, so I thought I'd look for a way to mend his things. It is the very least I can do."

"We'll contain him," I promise. "We'll figure out a way to keep him from hurting anyone else and to make him pay." Fucking bastard.

Mello's conviction was touching, but Kurama knew better than to trust completely in such a thing. "I wish it were as easy to do as it is to say," he murmured, drifting down the aisle.

I scowl at him. "I didn't think it'd be easy. If it were easy, it would be done already." I follow him, looking at the fabrics. "We contained one of us, one who was trained with all the same tricks we know, who knew what all our moves would be. We can contain him, too. It's a matter of knowing the parameters of his abilities and curtailing them."

Kurama smiled, holding up his hands in surrender. "I concede your point. The only questions now are how to contain him. Even for a demon, he is very sly." Kurama paused, examining a length of obi cloth, and then set it aside. "Shopping for someone else sucks, by the way."
