I was in the shower, thinking about H_H (as one does) and it occurred to me that not only have we not done a character meme in a while, but that it might be fun to do something positive while we were at it. So I thought we should resurrect an OOC love meme. The last time we did this was eons ago, so we are due for one.

Here's how the original meme was worded:

"I think we're all agreed that Hogwarts Hocus is a huge big barrel of sweet, delicious crack. But why? Because of the wonderful, beautiful characters we have here. Most of us are fangirling over characters and plotlines and pairings not our own, but it's difficult to express our love without disrupting RPs.

Soooo~...

The Hogwarts Hocus Cornucopia of Love! Shower your favourite characters with LOVE. Fangirl! Squee! Rave your hearts out! Be as coherent or incoherent as you like!

Because the original mun's PB was different from mine (I am using a different journal), please assume no meta between Charles and the other Paul Bettany characters. They may look somewhat alike, but are not, for the purposes of roleplay, identical.

Waaaaay back in July Nemo-mun posted this one called "So Then I Just Had to Find Out..."

...idea being, h_h, huge multifandom community with chars from lots of things you maybe never heard of before. Which canons were you inspired to go explore because of your exposure to a character portrayal here at h_h?

It was a fun meme. And today I just finished reading both The Secret History and The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove to get better acquainted with Camilla Macaulay and Molly Michon.

So how about the rest of you guys? What anime/manga/tv show/movie/book/website/comic book/etc. have you picked up on account of h_h?

Ok, actually I was mentioning that Robin is feeling a bit lonely, and the illustrious Camilla-mun suggested I post a fun little OOC poll ~~for science!~~ to see what your pups think of my ~~randy little goat~~ Puck.

SO, if you like, answer the poll in your character journals, and add any fun comments you might have about circumstances that would have to be involved or exactly how many drinks would equal the appropriate level of drunkenness.

Right, so, here's the deal:

Upon wandering about the internet, I discovered a nifty little thing. It's a South Park Character Creator Thingy Studio Site Whatchamacallit. Basically, it lets you create South Park-esque versions of your favorite H_H characters.

As demonstrated here, I've done one of Cox, Lily, and Sirius.

So, why not? Pick a char, make them round, and have at. XD

Anyway! List the characters you've considered applying, but never have. C'mon, you know you've got loads of them! Bold for the characters that you're reeeally tempted to app, italics for the characters you wish somebody else would app, and ~~strikeouts~~ for the characters who nobody should ever app in a million years.

The obsession for BPAL hasn't subsided over on the IRC channel, and what with all the new ~~converts~~ faces, we thought we'd start a post like the last one. We've also had IC enabling, but what do YOU think your characters would like?

Gogo still wears Santa Muerta most often, and Tisiphone. She'll probably give Yuki an imp of Pink Phoenix.

As we all know, H_H is a multifandom community, and I doubt that many of us are familiar with every fandom represented. So here's what I'm currently curious about. Has anyone else been so intrigued by a previously unfamiliar character in H_H that she/he saw the movie, read the book or played the game (or etc, etc.) in order to meet that character in his/her canon turf?

A while ago Stephen Maturin-mun wrote up a wonderful post wondering how close characters in Hogwarts_Hocus stick to canon, and how much fanon or personal interpretation bleeds into characterization. Many long essays were written by all.

Time passed, and now we have a lovely collection of new characters, plus older characters that have changed over the months. The question remains: how do YOU play your characters? How much do you take from canon?

Since it's been a couple of months, a lot has changed, and we have a lot of new people... time to revisit our list of ships!

In April, we came up with names for h_h ships -- the confirmed and the unlikely.

Some examples of ships developed since then:

Gin/Stephen: Duckshipping (credit:

And then we discussed whether our characters were shippers and which ships they preferred.

Nowadays, my own characters are shipping differently than before. Stephen used to be a die-hard Ryuuji/Nightwing shipper. Now he ships Ryuuji/Terry.

Help us identify and name ships, and tell us which ones your characters like! New names for old ships are also welcome!

Sometimes, Wikipedia just doesn't cut it. So, all you muns, reccommend your favorite fanfics which star your char, or best highlight the interpretation you have of them. A quick summary/warning/description of the length would be appreciated, of course.

Explanation: This comes out of some discussions with Ryuuji-mun and Terry-mun (and an IC discussion between Ryuuji and Terry which greatly amused me).

We've talked about the

hogwarts_hocus ships we muns like. But what about our characters? Are they shippers? Oddly enough, some of mine are!

Stephen is a Ryuuji/Nightwing shipper. He's convinced that Ryuuji and Nightwing will one day wed for real, even though Ryuuji insists that it was all a plot by the French slash cultists.
He is also a Nny/Teatime shipper in that the very notion of Susan/Teatime would make him flip out.
And he is claiming to be a Gin/Byakuya shipper, even though he isn't one ;)

Paul Atreides is a Ryuuji/Terry shipper and is holding himself back from quoting many aphorisms on True Love only because it seems to make Terry go o_O. He's also a River/Stephen shipper.

Cooper, I'm beginning to think, is a Lupin/Jack Sparrow shipper! That pirate rum... And it's an h_h canonical fact that Cooper is a Real!Ron/Puppet!Ron shipper.

Do any of your characters have favorite ships? Or ships that they oppose?

Given the amount of crack pairings running around, I think it's high time we started coming up with names for those ships. Nny/Teatime is Sturdy Tables, but what would Stephen/River be? What would Ryuuji/random student be?

Crack pairings need crack pairing names too, so let's get started!

The latest issue of Bitch magazine has an article on Mary Sues in fanfiction! ~~(If anyone is interested, I'm willing to scan it.)~~ Done. (Usually they post this kind of thing on the magazine website, but at the moment the website is undergoing an overhaul.)

It prompted me to formulate some tl;dr thoughts on Maturin's canon Sueishness. After writing this, I started to think about the nature of canon chars vs. fanon and h_h!chars.

For example, h_h!Ginny's humorous application, which played on the fanon trope of slut!Ginny, resulted in h_h!Maturin's strongly disliking her for a long time, since he believed her behavior would probably spread venereal diseases throughout the school. h_h!Maturin's application and some of his subsequent behavior were pretty fanon with respect to his feelings for Jack Aubrey, but now that Aubrey has applied and Maturin is embroiled in het smut, he's swinging more toward canon. And I only recently learned that h_h!Adam is 19, rather than 12 11 years old as he is in Good Omens.

I'm interested to hear others' thoughts on the relationship between their canon and the way they play their characters in h_h, especially since many of the canons -- particularly the anime ones -- are unfamiliar to me.
