As we all know, H_H is a multifandom community, and I doubt that many of us are familiar with every fandom represented. So here's what I'm currently curious about. Has anyone else been so intrigued by a previously unfamiliar character in H_H that she/he saw the movie, read the book or played the game (or etc, etc.) in order to meet that character in his/her canon turf?

For example, I watched Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World in March in order to meet Stephen Maturin. As I told his mun at the time, I was most impressed by the character and by her enactment of him.

And now, I've just finished reading Good Omens. I absolutely adored the book - I'm a Pratchett fan, and now I can't believe it took me so long to pick up this one. I'm also quite impressed with the spot-on H_H characterizations of Crowley, Aziraphale and Adam.

So ... has anyone else got similar "I saw so-and-so in H_H and simply had to go find the canon" experiences?

Well, I'm considering checking out Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and Invader Zim.

Uhm. I actually ordered the whole two series (Serieses? Seri? *flails*) of Invader Zim from the internet because I loved Dib so much. And considering that the DVDs actually AREN'T AVAILABLE IN THIS COUNTRY... Well.

I also bought the first Bleach manga - partly because of Charlie's crush on Rukia, partly because of the OMGLOVE that is the Shinigami crack that went down here.

Hogfather and Thief of Time because of Teatime and Susan, of course.

Runaways. I now have the whole thing on my harddrive because of the god who is Chase-mun! (Sadly popcorn now. Alas, alas.)

Kyou Kara Maou on YouTube becase, dude. Wolfram.

I've actually got a whole bunch of others that I intend to check out as soon as I have the time/money, such as the Dead Trilogy (Primavera FTW!), Veronica Mars, Arrested Development...

... God. I am SO WEAK. *hangs head in shame*

Nightwing got me into Batman, which got me playing Jason. XD Then Terry made me start watching Batman Beyond. Also borrowed Batman Begins to try see what this Bruce is like and I'll be watching it sometime today, hopefully. XD So, my indoctrination into the world of DC? Totally can be traced back to Nightwing-mun who is way too much fun.

If I had Castlevania, I'd give it a spin because of Alucard, definitely, and Nny-mun sent me some of JtHM to read so that I could see what was up with Edgar. Also borrowed some Runaways from a friend because of Victor, Chase and Gert, and I'll be probably d/ling KKM once I'm back at uni.

Psyche and Eros revived my interest in Greek Mythology and this summer, I'm going on a Wodehouse reading-spree thanks to Jeeves and Bertie, the adorablest squishy. Not to mention that I rewatched all of Utena because of the Utena-app encouraging me to pop up as Akio or someone equally bizarre. XD

...Oh man. HH, you are expanding my boundaries beyond belief.

I bought the first book in the Honor Harrington series. I haven't read it yet, but it's only a matter of time.

I've also done some research about ZEX, Nny and some other people, just to have a vague idea what they're like.

::hangs head in shame:: I've had On Basilisk Station sitting on my shelf waiting for me to get to it for like forever now. And I love h_h Nimitz and Honor!

Oh, and I forgot on Laura's list below, I ordered Sabriel because a couple of muns encouraged me to in Mogget's most adorable app,and it's now on the shelf giving me the guilt-inducing stare now too.

The most I've done so far is wiki-ing (to find out, in dismay, that the first male to talk to Mel isn't quite as he seems), but I've already read Good Omens and am deeply in love with all of the characters from there.

I want to watch Highlander now, thanks to Methos.

Oh God I'm terrible. Out comes the list.

I read Ender's Game for Peter and Ender; bought Good Omens yesterday; Watched the whole two series of Veronica Mars (Thanks Dick-mun!!!); Read some of Gogo-muns comics of JtHM; I watched Master and Commander; I watched Scrubs and I've started watching Doctor Who (The last two are JD's fault, they were bound to happen soon). I also WILL watch Kill Bill soon, I promise you Gogo!

And many more to come.

Let's see...

-- I've watched Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World a whole bunch of times and have bought (so far) the first two Aubrey-Maturin novels to learn more about Stephen and others. Prima-mun is amazing, and learning the canon only shows me that more.
-- I've read Johnny the Homicidal Maniac because of Nny-mun's enabling.
-- I've watched Kill Bill several times and read the former script - and then picked up Yuki!
-- I watched Clue for the first time when it was on a movie channel shortly after Mrs. White showed up.
-- Wimbledon is on YouTube waiting for me because of Deiter and Paul Bettany, yum.
-- I've avidly taken in everything ZEX-mun has ever linked about ZEX
-- I also Wiki everything and everyone - with the exception of a few characters, like Crowley, because I really wanted to learn along with Sarah.
-- The Dead Trilogy is on my future reading list, BSG is now likely to get back on my TV watching list because of the new Baltar app and SOMEDAY when I have time, I'll watch Scrubs and Dr. Who.
-- Any fandom I had love for before (Star Trek, Highlander, Xena, etc and so on) I've found new love for because of h_h.

If I did not spend so much time at h_h itself (and in IRC), this list would be far longer!

Well, I had read/seen the book/movie when they first came out, but h_h got me to do a refresher course on Jurassic Park (including the sequels, which I hadn't bothered with) to RP with Grant, which led to applying as Malcolm because Jeff Goldblum rocks that part.

I just paid full retail got the Sentinel s1 box set & have watched the pilot already based on Laura's recent conversation with Blair - I had a rough idea what the series was about, but had no idea it had so much potential Twin Peaks overlap.

Of COURSE I had to go dig through the Strong Bad Emails at homestarrunner.com, because those characters are cracked-out enough in context - take them out of context and it's like megacrack.

I've never been tempted to watch Scrubs, but I may have to dl a few eps just because our Cox and JD so rock.

  • I've started reading the Aubrey/Maturin series (just finished book 3) and watched "Master and Commander." I've even written some M&C fanfiction and plan on writing more. Yikes!
  • I re-read "Good Omens," which I read a very long time ago. Still don't like Terry Pratchett, but Crowley is cool.
  • I really want to see "Kill Bill." I'll probably buy it the next time I'm at the store.
  • I already liked Homestar, but I've been watching more of the toons to become more familiar with Homsar and Senor Cardgage.
  • I've been wanting to read The Dead Trilogy but have been unable to find it at the local bookstore. I need to order it.
  • Ed-mun has kindly linked me to an online version of the Full Metal Alchemist manga. As I normally dislike anime and manga (don't like the art), this is a pretty major thing for me. ;)
  • I'd like to read more Jhonen Vasquez stuff. (Any good comic book stores in Austin?)
  • I want to see some of the TV shows everyone references here - especially Firefly, Farscape, and Scrubs. Alas, I have no television, so if anyone can point me towards a place where I can dl stuff, I'd appreciate it.
  • I don't know if this counts, but I certainly have become very interested in BPAL. ;)

This is the best. (http://www.austinbooks.com/index.html) Hands. Down. Huge stock, nice staff. When you go, tell 'em I sent you. (By my real name, of course. ;) ) They've got all the Jhonen stuff, and if they don't have it, they can order it for you.

I am now completely caught up-to-date on the BLEACH manga currently available from Viz in the US -- and I'm going to need to start reading what's on Bleach 7 (http://www.bleach7.com/) to keep up my fix.

I'm currently switching between the Dead trilogy and the omnibus Life With Jeeves collection in my evening reading, which causes not a little cognitive dissonance from time to time. :)

Veronica Mars has been added to my netflix queue; although I've had people badgering me about it for ages, h_h was extra impetus. :)

And I've borrowed Season 1 of Arrested Development, and need to get cracking on that.

And I've been catching up on Homestar Runner.

And NCIS is now in my Netflix queue). But it's sparked a lot of re-reading, re-watching, and in some cases acquiring audiobook versions of books.

JtHM - I've been curious about and H_H just reinforced that xD

Same with Castlevania - as I was iffy on it to begin with, but now thanks to Alucard, I'm interested all over again.

I've been hearing about Terry P. for a while, but thanks to Teatime and others, I've been heavily wanting to get my hands on it.

However, I just don't have any of these xD Just that I'm now more curious xD

Of course that also means that more of you know what liberties I'm taking with the characters... XD Still, gotta spread the word. If anyone ever wants good fanfic recommendations, just let me know. ;)

That said, h_h has gotten me interested in a number of new things, practically none of which I've seen or read yet. :p But I intend to! Like JtHM, House, NCIS, CSI, Twin Peaks, Firefly, Buffy, Arrested Development, Lost, MacGyver, Black Books, Scrubs, Sayer's Wimsey novels, The Sentinel, and Yu-Gi-Oh. (Can you tell that I don't have TV? XD) But thanks to all of you and your amazing characterizations, I have a bunch of new fandoms to explore! Now I just have to get off the computer long enough to watch or read them. *g*

Cooper and Laura have reinforced my desire to watch Twin Peaks. A friend of mine is a huge David Lynch fan and kept talking about it, but those two really make me curious now.

Also, now I really want to see Domino and read the Dead Things trilogy. And watch more Lost.

Domino is a big, messy, noisy movie but a helluva fun ride, well worth the time spent. (If I knew any Spanish I'd consider app'ing as Choco, just to mess with our Domino.)

Quick word of warning about TP though: rewatching to build up Laura, I realized I'd forgotten how slow and dreamy the pace of the show is. Somehow in the intervening 15 years I've gotten used to the supafast quick-cut edit. So it may take a little adjusting, but the imagery is so lush and interesting that it's worth it.
