As we all know, H_H is a multifandom community, and I doubt that many of us are familiar with every fandom represented. So here's what I'm currently curious about. Has anyone else been so intrigued by a previously unfamiliar character in H_H that she/he saw the movie, read the book or played the game (or etc, etc.) in order to meet that character in his/her canon turf?

For example, I watched Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World in March in order to meet Stephen Maturin. As I told his mun at the time, I was most impressed by the character and by her enactment of him.

And now, I've just finished reading Good Omens. I absolutely adored the book - I'm a Pratchett fan, and now I can't believe it took me so long to pick up this one. I'm also quite impressed with the spot-on H_H characterizations of Crowley, Aziraphale and Adam.

So ... has anyone else got similar "I saw so-and-so in H_H and simply had to go find the canon" experiences?

  • I've started reading the Aubrey/Maturin series (just finished book 3) and watched "Master and Commander." I've even written some M&C fanfiction and plan on writing more. Yikes!
  • I re-read "Good Omens," which I read a very long time ago. Still don't like Terry Pratchett, but Crowley is cool.
  • I really want to see "Kill Bill." I'll probably buy it the next time I'm at the store.
  • I already liked Homestar, but I've been watching more of the toons to become more familiar with Homsar and Senor Cardgage.
  • I've been wanting to read The Dead Trilogy but have been unable to find it at the local bookstore. I need to order it.
  • Ed-mun has kindly linked me to an online version of the Full Metal Alchemist manga. As I normally dislike anime and manga (don't like the art), this is a pretty major thing for me. ;)
  • I'd like to read more Jhonen Vasquez stuff. (Any good comic book stores in Austin?)
  • I want to see some of the TV shows everyone references here - especially Firefly, Farscape, and Scrubs. Alas, I have no television, so if anyone can point me towards a place where I can dl stuff, I'd appreciate it.
  • I don't know if this counts, but I certainly have become very interested in BPAL. ;)

This is the best. (http://www.austinbooks.com/index.html) Hands. Down. Huge stock, nice staff. When you go, tell 'em I sent you. (By my real name, of course. ;) ) They've got all the Jhonen stuff, and if they don't have it, they can order it for you.

Oh, cool - thanks! And don't worry, I won't go in there saying that Susan Sto Helit sent me. ;)

Damn, I missed meeting Jaime Hernandez! I would've squeed and fangirled all over him, though, so it's probably just as well...

*g* They're really cool people. I was in there today and noted that they've got several copies of the JTHM compilation, as well as some of the Fillerbunny material. It didn't look like they had any copies of Squee! or I Feel Sick, but like I said, they can order it if you ask.

Well, myspleen.net is a great torrent site for cartoons and tv shows. I got Rocko's modern life and Venture Brothers from there (still need to app Dr. Orpheus or the Monarch, though).

www.mininova.net has some Farscape. You want all of season 1 (trust me, you do), it's all out on DVD in a complete s1 box set now so I wouldn't be surprised if it's netflixable. But if you have to pick and choose dls for h_h purposes, then the pilot is essential viewing, 1.15 'Durka Returns' is the first appearance of Chiana, 1.16 'A Human Reaction' packs a huge emotional punch for our hero, and 1.17 'Through the Looking Glass' is pure cracky goodness.

2.9, 'Out of Their Minds,' is hysterical - the Farscape version of the old bodyswitching idea - but you really need to have a sense of the characters first for that one. 2.18, 'A Clockwork Nebari,' is also a big ep for establishing Chiana canon.

Oh hell, just watch the whole series, wouldja? Farscape is love.

    Farscape is indeed love :-D

Also, Chiana in D'argo's body? Hillarious. Love that episode.

"You were in my shoes... I was in your pants..."

Yeah, I'm finally getting around to buying the series since they NEVER show it anymore.

That's why I'm getting the Starburst Edition DVDs off of ebay and Amazon! Even at full price, it's about 40 bucks cheaper per season than the boxed sets.
