Flying was becoming a familiar, comforting thing.

Actually trying to practice, though... that was less comfortable. But there was definitely something satisfying, Nny reflected, about hitting bludgers through the air, looping around as they swung back towards them, and smacking them away again.

Flying practice was needed, with Quidditch season looming indefinably but definitely on the horizon, and therefore Teatime was looking to get some in before it was too late. He grinned up at the sky.

Oh, look! It was his friend, Nny. And he looked to be practicing as well. Perhaps he'd be open for company? Either way, it'd be offered.

He flew up into the sky towards his friend, huge smile firmly in place on his face.

Hitting a bludger hard enough for the follow-through to spin him halfway around in midair, he noticed Teatime flying in his direction. He smiled, only a little nervously. "Hey."

"Hi!" He grinned, cocking his head. "You're practicing," Teatime noted. "Would you like to practice with me?"

Okay, maybe that one wasn't on purpose. Maybe. "Sure. Should I be trying to hit the bludger away from you, or do you want to try dodging on your own?"

"You should probably try to hit at me. It wouldn't let me get any practice if I don't have a chance to try dodging them."

"Right, then." He grinned darkly, watching the bludger arc back towards him and readying his bat.

Teatime laughed. "Should I start flying for my life now, then?"

Instead of answering, he swung hard at the bludger at it flew back at him, sending it hurtling directly at Teatime.

Quickly, Teatime directed his broom downwards, and dove out of the way. Sometimes he was irritated by the slow response brooms tended to have, but...putting that out of mind, he focused instead on not getting pummeled to death by a flying ball of doom.

Giggling, Nny swung his broom around, bat poised for another strike. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed someone on the ground... watching, maybe?... but trying to make out who it was from this height would take away attention needed to follow the bludger's trajectory.

Teatime continued to outmaneuver the Bludger, smiling widely as he did so. There was something fun about avoiding them, really...perhaps it was the continuation of life.

It was easier to focus on the Bludger when it was homing in on Teatime and not him. As long as it was closer to Teatime... if Nny got too close, it would double back towards him. But he was ready for it.

Moving away from the threatening Bludger, Teatime remarked, "You know, it'd really be nice if we had a Snitch or some equivalent..."

Devi stood awkwardly by the school, her fingers tapping nervously against the broom as she debated. She hadn't flown in so long... far too long. But she didn't exactly want to interrupt what Teatime and Nny were having at the moment. She did want those 10 Sickles, odd as the pairing was. She sighed and tugged on the bottom of her tank top, blowing a strand of newly-died black hair out of her face.

River slipped up to the pitch hesitantly--- she knew Stephen wasn't exactly fond of some of her friends, so flying with Nny probably meant another fight in a relationship that had enough of those as it was--- but she wasn't about to walk away from her friends just to please Stephen's curvilinear sense of ethics, and besides, flying with Nny was too much fun to give up that easily.

However, once she arrived, she saw that Nny and Teatime were engrossed in each other, as usual--- she understood quite well what it was like to be that... involved... with someone, and she didn't like to interrupt.

She was going to sneak away when she saw Nny's friend Devi standing on the ground, watching them. Except for one brief conversation, she'd never talked to Devi--- most of what she knew about the other woman came from Nny--- but she'd wanted to get to know her better. And technically, hanging out with Devi wasn't hanging out with Nny, which meant that she could be literally honest with Stephen if the subject came up. She came over without calling out, so as not to disturb Nny and Teatime. "Hello, Devi," she said quietly. "I don't know if you remember me--- we talked on the steps once. I'm River--- Nny's friend." She cocked her head. "Want to come flying with me? Teatime and Nny are... busy... so we could go somewhere else so we don't... disturb... them."

Devi jumped quite visibly at the sound of River's voice. She had been oddly enraptured with the two flying above. It was weird, the effect flying could have on people... it was almost mesmerizing.

So nervous... always so nervous... You should calm down a little... she heard the familiar sing-song voice whisper in her head, and quickly shoved it somewhere into the back of her mind.

"Hey," she murmured in response, giving a timid smile back and glancing up to Nny and Teatime again. "That would be great, actually. I haven't flown in so long... but I really didn't want to disturb them..."

River smiled gently at the other woman, aware of her nervousness and wanting to help. "I don't blame you. Why don't we go over by the lake? That way we won't bother them, and there's plenty of room--- and if we don't go too high, we'll just land in the water if we fall." River wasn't likely to fall, but since Devi hadn't done so in a while that might help her nervousness.

Devi just gave a lopsided grin and glanced over. "All right... Sounds good. But you don't have to worry about me falling. I haven't forgotten how to," she replied, inhaling deeply and playing with her shirt again. "I love flying. ... Just haven't really gotten a chance to lately."

"Great!" River enthused, easily mounting her broom. "Let's go!"

Devi smiled as she mouted her own broom, kicking off into the air and heading over to the lake, glancing to River as she fell to a halt, weaving slightly through the air and inhaling deeply. "Ahhh.... I missed this..."

"It's wonderful, isn't it?" River tilted her head back to breathe in the air. "So much like dancing... either kind." Mentions of dancing in her particular idiom led naturally to the next question: "Nny told me Mr. Teatime was teaching you how to throw knives. That sounds like fun!"

Devi's eyes brightened at the mention of the knife-throwing as she subconsciously ran her hands down the broom handle, pondering. "Yeah, he's given me a couple private lessons. Nny seems to think that I should need to defend myself..." She trailed off. "But it was. Fun, that is. Just... that rush when you throw it. Gah. It's weird..."

"A rush... I know what that's like. Sounds like dancing. The kind with knives, I mean. Or axes. Or... whatever. I've never thrown a knife before, though." She sobered. "And it's always good to be able to defend yourself--- not to be... helpless."

"And I've never touched an axe before, so I guess the situation's slightly similar," Devi remarked. "But, yes. I do feel much safer being able to do so, at least to some extent. Even if I do never need to use it."

"Axes are fun--- so are swords, for that matter. And a gun's awfully convenient, too, when you've got one available." She sighed. "I'd like to get to dance again--- I mean, just for practice, not... seriously. I asked Nny but he said he only does it when he's actually killing people."
