Flying was becoming a familiar, comforting thing.

Actually trying to practice, though... that was less comfortable. But there was definitely something satisfying, Nny reflected, about hitting bludgers through the air, looping around as they swung back towards them, and smacking them away again.

That had better not have been on purpose. "What, the Quidditch? It's practice for me, too."

"Yes, but what does helping me narrow possibilities do for you?"

Nny stared at him, looking almost hurt and somewhat offended. "You're my friend," he said finally.

"Yes, you are. But would it be friendly of me to do nothing about the fact that you've helped me?"

"But there'll always be things we can do for each other... watching out for each other, you know?"

"I suppose there will be. Perhaps I can do something for you then."

He looked away, flushing a little. "Aren't... I mean, I'm not very experienced at friendships and everything, but aren't friends supposed to help each other in general?"

"Yes, but then there are imbalances, you know. It isn't nice to be in debt to a friend, no matter how much I like you."

"Is that how you look at it?"

"It just... you make it sound like you're keeping exact track. Like a business thing."

"I suppose I just don't want any imbalances. Something awful could happen if one existed."

"You don't think I'd say something if I thought you were taking advantage of me?"

"Oh..." He cocked his head, looked thoughtful, did a barrel roll to dodge a - what word is there for it but charging? - Bludger, and considered the thought again. "You might not," he said at last.

"Why wouldn't I? I'm not exactly easy-going."

"Oh, I don't know. You might not want to make me angry, or something." Well, of course I have a good idea as to why you might, but I should hardly want to lose what I've got so far with you. Not when I've spent so much time building it.

"If I was angry, I wouldn't care. You've seen me sort of pissed off, but you've never seen me... well. You saw me lose it at Jimmy. Do you think I was worried about making him angry?"

"Of course not. No-one was worried about that when he was being dissected. I don't think he had the extra brainspace available."

"And if I was that angry, do you think I'd care who I was upsetting?"

"You could." It makes so many incidents with other people make sense.

"When I'm that upset I'm not always even certain who I'm talking to sometimes."

"Well, if you made me angry like that I'd hardly want you to be my friend, right? Besides, it sounds like fun. Figuring out who pissed you off, I mean."
