Matt's actually a little alarmed at the thought, to be honest. "Try not to beat the crap out of each other? More than necessary, at least..."

He takes another drink. "Yeah, he's about." Which reminds him! "Dude, you beat up an old man!"

I laugh a little. "Aikido's about throwing each other around, not beating each other up. And shuddap about that. He asked for it."

In the middle of Near's back, I start tracing the cuneiform letters I'd written during class. I wonder if he'll remember them.

If Near had been sober, he might have; as it is, he merely enjoys the touch, with a soft pleased sigh.

"He did," Near agrees.

L decides he doesn't want to know.

"In fact, harming your partner means you have misjudged your force, their ability, or both, and is really a reflection of incompetence. Since it is likely we are both competent, it will not be an issue. I doubt I would have suggested it, otherwise."

"... okay," Matt says, looking only partly reassured. He's not sure if he'll come to watch.

"Really, Matt. Aikido's main principle is to redirect the attacker's energy so it is diverted away from the target. It's not like judo or karate where you're trying to immobilize your attacker. Seriously. I haven't been injured in practice since about a month after I started, and I was five at the time."

And Near isn't getting the message. Oh, well. He seems to be enjoying it, though. I keep writing on his back, changing languages. Maybe he'll get one of them.

When Mello switches to Esperanto, Near gets it. He takes hold of Mello's other wrist and taps Morse code lightly against his pulse.

"Okay. No more worrying. I'd be up for another drink, though. Mello, have you had anything yet? They have a hookah here and everything."

On Near's back, I write in Esperanto, "But, we can leave, go to our room."

Aloud, I say, "I'm good. Not really into anything but second hand smoke, really. Though, if they have any good chocolate liquor...I might be tempted."

I write on Near's back, "When you're ready...I was thinking tie you down and make you squirm. Ticklish?"

"I'd rather avoid opium, thank you, though."

"Regardless," I reply verbally. "I'll skip and the only chocolate liquor they have here is subpar."

On Near's back, I write, "Sounds like a good time."

"But they have strawberry flavoured everything."

"You're all totally boring," Matt informs them, looking very happy. He pulls out a packet of cigarettes. "Just so you know."

He's had an awesome day. He's alive and has loads of friends and they're all sitting drinking together (sort of). He may be slightly drunk.

"Yeah, I'll keep that in mind next time you wanna tour London," I gripe at Matt.

On Near's back, "If you're ready to. I thought about you today."

"And, I do not share your...affection for strawberries." It's rather amusing being the only sober person in the group. While the others still seem mostly like themselves, they are also less guarded. I doubt Matt'd be...like that...if he were sober.

I wonder, though...with him as dense as he is and everything else, if I'm just reading things into it. I mean, I may be sober, but I'm not completely clear minded, not with things I want to do to Near floating around in my head.

It's certainly been more enjoyable than his first experience with alcohol.

"Hopefully, A and I will have your chocolate by the weekend. I am letting him set the date, though."

This is related, really. His train of thought is just going in a mostly different direction.

Which reminds him!

"The laptop's working really well," he tells L. "I've fiddled about with it... I mean, it helps that I'm used to stuff that's a little more advanced, but I haven't had a problem with any of my projects yet."

And he's working on replacing some of the equipment he'd lost after dying.
