It's about the places you showed me. Under the castle. )

He liked to think she was smiling as she left the bar, but he really couldn't be completely certain. Their understanding of one another was not perfect, thankfully. He made the conscious choice to remember her smiling. She, and Snape, and Igor, and all the people he'd known at Hogwarts -- he kept these in his mind as he finished his coffee and mentally prepared himself to leave the school forever.

Then he turned his thoughts to Judith, and (with less pleasure) to his nemesis Dr. Helmer.

Yet at the precise moment he buckled his seatbelt on the Edinburgh runway -- cheapest flight he could find, Edinburgh to Copenhagen, £110 -- it was the face of Antubis the anteater that displaced all other reminiscences for Hook. He remembered Antubis' incongruously carnivorous teeth, which had no place in the mouth of a natural anteater. Those teeth ...

In a certain room of Hogwarts castle, a large kernel of popcorn flashed into existence, and the name of Jørgen 'Hook' Krogshøj etched itself into the popcorn plaque.

On a stage was where they belonged, performing, whether for a large crowd in a formal performance or for a small group on the side of the street during festival. Performance gave them purpose, direction; it was their life.

With some help from the ever willing house elves, a stage was set up at the end of the Great Hall. The only advertising was a sign outside the Hall that explained what would be happening within and the hours marked. The house elves also procured a recording of the chant for a particular play that appealed to both Sakon and Ukon—it was enough of a challenge to be suitable practice for one who would, someday, take the place of a national treasure and was flamboyant enough to satisfy a need for attention.

Sakon dressed traditionally, a kimono and hakuma in dark sober colors. He was part of the background, the setting, nothing more. His hands rested on his knees, gathering himself, preparing himself for what was to come, to channel the character through his hands, through Ukon.

Ukon waited on a stand beside Sakon's knee. His clothing, in stark contrast to Sakon's, was bright orange and red with shibori maple leaves falling over his shoulders and the hemline. His obi was a vivid red, matching his hair. On the stand, he was limp, lifeless, merely a puppet, though exquisitely made. Just behind him, in a hole in the stand, a spear, bright metal head, a red tassel hanging from the rope that bound the head to the staff.

Sakon took a deep breath, his head coming up, his expression passively neutral as he reached for Ukon. As he touched the puppet, life flowed into Ukon. Ukon looked out onto his audience as Sakon moved the stand behind them, removing the staff. He set it on the ground near his legs.

A drum began with a slow rhythm, a flute in a high warbling over it. A male voice, rich and round, began the chant, a story that Ukon acted out even as the voice told of it in verse.

The story unfolds )

The silence at the end of the recording was so deep that it seemed that Sakon held his breath until the moment passed. Ukon rose, his hands free of the spear, and they both bowed to those who had decided to watch.

Rather than returning Ukon to the stand, as would be traditional, Sakon kept the puppet with him.

((Sokka is from just after the end of the TV show, and since I actually didn't remember we had one years and years ago will not remember his previous time at Hogwarts.))

There was a pop, and an embarrassing and slightly painful sprawl of limbs, and Sokka of the Southern Water tribe found himself in a greasy puddle on the floor. "Eeeugh," he said, untangling his arms and legs from his sword and boomerang--"SWORD AND BOOMERANG! YOU CAME BACK!" He could have hugged them, if he hadn't been soaked in--what was this? It felt like Appa-drool, but it smelled better.

He shook off as much of it as he could and looked around. Stone floors, stone walls, and glass cases filled with... seeds? Giant seeds? What was this place? It didn't look like an Earth Kingdom building, which made no sense since when he had fallen asleep the night before, it had been in Ba Sing Se. He had hurt his leg during the invasion a few days before, not his head, so he was pretty sure that he could trust his memory on that.

He strapped his boomerang into its accustomed place, thankful that he was wearing his comfortable usual clothes, instead of the more lavish ones that had been gifted to him and the rest of his friends for their help in defending the Earth Kingdom from the Fire Lord. They were really awesome robes and everything, but if he was going to be lost in a strange place, at least he'd be lost in a strange place in something he was used to wearing. Even if it was covered in grease. His sword, he kept in his hand, unsheathed, the metal dark and different from usual steel. Super awesome space sword yeah! He was so glad to have it back. And his boomerang! Some people had security blankets, Sokka had his boomerang.

He poked his head out the door and looked both ways, and after a second's hesitation, up. Nobody threatening around that he could see. With a slight limp, he snuck down the hallway, hugging the walls.

Acorna isn't sure what to make of this. She looks around the sorting room - strange and austere, but even without the purifying effect of her horn, the air is clean and safe if a little musty, and she doesn't see any immediate danger - and turns back to the door she came in through, which looks nothing like any hatch ever installed on the Condor. Still, she looks out through it. "Captain Jonas? Aari? Maak? This isn't funny, you three."

No answer comes, of course, so she turns her attention to the paper and quill. "Application for what?" she mutters to herself, picking up the quill in one slightly clumsy, two-fingered hand.

Land on your feet, in a crouch. Amazed. Hands outflung as if in flight. Fold your arms, unfold them, stretch one out before you and study your hand in amazement. Same scarred wrist. Run a finger over the keloid ridge. Reach up to feel your face. The back of your head. Fingers clenching in your own hair. Think you ought to have a headache. Experimental pull. Yeah. It hurts to pull your hair. You have sensation. Full range?

You are embodied and aware.

You always knew who you were and now, in a blink, you suspect where it is you've jumped. Before you even look around.

((OOC: Taken from the end of the anime series, tons of spoilers and some speculation as the mun is still reading the manga which may or may not fill in the speculation later, depending on how it affects things [the mun has seen the anime more than 6 times already, but the manga is still being released in English]. In canon, he can only be a certain distance away from Akatsuki Chika [mentioned later] for a particular amount of time or his right hand will rot off. The mun is going with something about Hogwarts will prevent this for the convenience of playing him without a Chika. And, with the Japanese convention, Shito is his given name.))

What happens when a corpse becomes pregnant and gives birth? What would she give birth to? After seven years, another corpse, but since it has been born, it must live.

A cursed life, a cursed existence, a perfect monster.

Less than a year ago, that existence took a turn. In a fatal accident for all but two, dubbed by the news media as A-kun and B-kun because of their ages, Tachibana Shito's fate became entangled with a Ferryman named Bekkou and the headstrong Akatsuki Chika, B-kun. In a contract to preserve their lives, the both agreed to a life loan, a Zombie Loan, with a contract term of one year. To repay it, they had to catch illegal zombies, those who did not have such a contract, and send them on to the next world before the Reaper caught both them and their prey. To those able to see it, a black ring circled their necks, marking for the Reaper where his scythe could cut.

They had, however, done a favor for the Reaper and now had one less thing to watch for over their shoulders. But, there were still zombies to catch. Zombies that ran from them. Running made his socks slouch down. He hated that more than anything. He'd paused to pull up his socks, looking up to call after Akatsuki and Kita, but they weren't there. The city wasn't there. What was there shouldn't have been there.

He found himself in a room with stone walls. He'd been what passed as alive for a very long time and had never seen anything like this. He finished adjusting his socks and stood, looking around the room. To one side, a table with some papers on it, a feather hovering over them. There were doors, closed. Frowning, he walked over to them, trying them. They wouldn't rattle. As far as he could tell, they were merely pictures of doors on a wall. But to what purpose?

But, then, what purpose did people have for wanting to defy death? Did there have to be one?

He hated being locked in, but at least this time he wasn't handcuffed to a bed. He continued around the room, examining for anything. If he arrived, there must be a way to leave. Because of that contract, he couldn't be far away from that pest Akatsuki for long. He rubbed his right wrist, but it didn't feel wrong. The handcuff bracelet was there. He shoved it back up his arm, under his sleeve.

He continued to the stack of papers on the table. Maybe a clue would be there.
Useless. )
