KARAOKE!

((Sorry about the delay but it took me a while to decide how to play this. If you think it's unrealistic for your character to have been drunk enough/influenced by Ryuuji, you don't have to play along. Otherwise, pick any song you think your char would have sung, upload it to yousendit, then comment with a link. Easy way to share musical tastes! And if your char was drunk enough, pick a song they'd never normally sing and upload that. XD))

Over the course of the evening, everyone had been roped into trying out the karaoke machine at one point or another. Or trying it out several times, since Ryuuji hadn't been quite sure if he'd caught everyone and had compensated for that by pushing anyone he caught onto the stage and insisting that they serenade the pub.

For himself, he'd ended up performing once to break the ice, once for the hell of it and once near the end of the evening to prove he was still sober. And the fact that he thought that would prove he was sober probably testified to the fact that he was more than a little intoxicated by that point.

Songs were:

Every Me and Every You - Placebo.

The Calender Hung Itself - Bright Eyes.

Irresponsible - Voltaire.

Steerpike wasn't much of a singer, but neither did he generally miss opportunities to show off. He kept himself down to one song, however.

Earlier in the evening, Stephen Maturin had resorted to his private store of coca leaves, which left him energized and relatively free of care. To embark upon serious consumption of Madeira at this point was probably not wise, but Maturin had suffered the stresses of this odd place and its odd people long enough to need some consolation.

And conviviality. A pub outing seemed just the thing.

However, the Madeira made him feel a bit morose and maudlin. Thoughts of long-departed comrades clouded his mind: his late wife Diana, the many shipmates he had lost in battle, the faraway admiral Aubrey. He began to sing ... a love song ... about dissection.

It had been a rather stronger drink than Nny was expecting.

He didn't like it, didn't like the dizzy feeling, it revolted him all over again that people did this to themselves deliberately.

Not his idea of fun at all.

Especially since it made him more-than-usually amenable to being shoved in the direction of the microphone. Even knowing he'd also been roped into a duet with Adam later.

So, he sang.

Oh, singing! This was fun!

Door tried to think of what would be appropriate. She dismissed a few that came to mind as being a bit too bawdy, or too hard to sing, or just not right.

She wound up singing two songs.

Stephen Maturin listened to the Lady Door's dulcet singing, entranced. He was wholly unaware of the singer, in his drunken haze; it was to him as though the words came disembodied and entire out of his past, recalling the hills of Ireland, the lilt in the Gaelic tongue spoken by his daughter Brigid. He slumped in his seat, pained by bittersweet memory.

Nightwing really did intend to stay safely sober, but . . . er . . . sometimes things don't go quite as one planned. Thoroughly tipsy enough to have been talked by Ryuuji into trading his jeans in for leather pants at some point, (and it was anyone's guess where the hell his shirt had gone) he proceeded to sing his little heart out.

Unfortunately, the bird motif did not extend to an excellent singing voice.

Especially not drunk.

Thoroughly inebriated. Past all sense, past all decorum. He keenly felt the absence of his dearest friend, who would surely have stopped him from going this far, from embarrassing himself. He felt as if he should be embarrassed. He was not. He would be later.

Maturin took the stage. Again. (Again? He had done this earlier, this evening? Something like that.) He dedicated his song: "To absent companions."

Crowley had arrived at the party late and missed the first few people to sing. Clearly behind on his drinking, he started in on a bottle of red and listened to everyone pour out their hearts. Normally he'd have scoffed and taunted at the very least, but feeling adrift and lonely in this odd place he began to think of what song might be appropriate.

As his thoughts turned towards a specific someone with blonde hair and kind, uniquely blue eyes, he knew what he had to sing.

In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BD8X260I)

His clear baritone voice was angel pure and nearly heartbreaking, overflowing with unrequited feelings, which he was ready to deny if anyone called him on it. He always seemed to get maudlin over Pinot Noir...

Adam jumped on the stage at the end of Nny's song and winked at him. It was time to do their duet for having tied in the flying contest. He hadn't been drinking, because someone who can alter reality with a mere thought probably shouldn't let up on his inhibitions, but that only helped him to remember to tone down his voice. If he wasn't careful, his half-angel side would be most apparent when he was singing, so he intentionally distorted it as he proceeded to sing with Nny.

Devi could hardly be dragged into singing something, but she did sit in the back, ending up having drank two banana cream pies and a few seven and sevens that she wasn't really sure as to how were bestowed upon her, seeing as she hadn't brought money. Tenna was suspected. She just enjoyed everyone else's singing, possibly exponentially moreso as the night went on due to the alcohol.

Oh, it really was fun singing, and hearing other people sing! Door was enjoying herself, but she was a bit nervous that her rather... disturbing... housemate might try to engage her in conversation again. Talking to Teatime about quidditch was one thing, but making social small talk with him made her acutely nervous, and she suspected he knew it. Be nice, Door. You don't have to trust him, but you haven't seen him actually do anything wrong, and he's been nothing but polite and friendly to you.

Still. If she was talking to someone else, he was less likely to start being all intense at her, right? And really, she should be mingling anyway. She spotted a couple of girls she thought were from Gryffindor. Seemed like a good enough time to mingle! She approached their table.

"Hello. I don't think we've actually met, I'm Door. Are you having fun?"
