Emerald eyes opened to survey a room that was in stark contrast to anything they had ever seen before. Gareas stood, slowly, unsure of everything. Was it a dream? A delicate hand ran through his mass of spikey hair, the strands shimmering the same color as his eyes. It was an empty room, save for a desk and chair. Yep, definitely a dream. He figured it couldn't hurt to play along. After all, anywhere was better than the hell he just came out of. His best friend was dead, or at least to the best of his knowledge he was. It just seemed too minimal a chance to waste hope on. Maybe it was his intense desire to be anywhere other than where he was that led him to this strange environment.
A thought struck him. If this was a dream, then he should be able to conjure up anything he wanted, if he was aware of his state. So he tried. He strained his imagination, recalling every feature of his best friend, willing him to appear in front of him. Minutes later, he was still alone.
He sighed. What a crappy dream. It seemed that there wasn't much else to do, so he seated himself at the desk and looked over the parchment laid out, seemingly for him.
"What is this drivel?" he wondered aloud, but put pen to paper anyway.
