"I don't really have much space... would yours be okay?" He takes the tank off A, which makes it easier for him to carry everything else. "If we knew for certain he wouldn't be in, I'd suggest putting it up in his room, but..."
"They're pretty awesome. There's got to be one in this country - if you were up for it, maybe the three of us could go visit one sometime. They tend to be pretty quiet."
So Matt imagines, anyway. The one he went to wasn't exactly busy.
"Are you still going to call him Koopa?" A asks, as the grinning shopkeeper helps Matt assemble the puppy's needs. He doesn't recognize the origin of the name, but it sounds cute.
"I think so. They're actually sort of turtle things, but - I dunno, it just seems like a neat name."
Matt looks a little taken aback by just how much stuff he's going to need. A bed, a leash, toys, food, a book, grooming supplies, information about vets and injections and neutering...
"Yeah. And Mello and Near. And the kittens, obviously."
Eventually they have everything they need. The puppy is put in a little box, not unlike the one the kittens travelled in, and to save space Matt puts that box inside the tank, which he's still carrying. (Without the lid on, obviously.) He slides the other bags down over his wrists, to keep his hands free, and glances at A.
"Oh, god," Matt says, as they make their awkward way back towards the pub. "Fuck. I just bought a puppy. How the hell am I supposed to look after a puppy?"
Logically, he knows that plenty of people keep puppies, and it can't exactly be that hard. But he still looks a little panicked.

"This. And, uh. Anything he'll need."

"I am sure L will be glad to meet him."

From the box, Koopa yips.
