... so Near had been dragged off by one of those elf things for 'detention'. Matt snorted. This whole place was so damned weird - a school that had bars, but still handed out detention? The hell?

But they'd agreed to have a drink after the whole radio thing, so here Matt was. He lounged outside the door, smoking a cigarette and frowning. Matt wasn't sure what to think of the radio show. Near was, at the very least, a friendly acquaintance, and from the sound of things... well. What the hell had happened?

He'd find out soon enough, he figured.

"God," Matt laughed. "I need a cigarette." He slid off the counter, behind the bar, and took a few steps away as he lit it. "I can't believe this."

"I wouldn't lie about it," Near said with a helpless laugh. "I'm having trouble believing it myself." He drained what remained in his glass.

Cigarette lit, Matt took a much-needed draw. He tilted his head back to exhale before turning to face Near.

"... and that's where the bruises came from, right?"

"Not this one," Near said pointing at his eye. "All the others, yeah. I'm guessing that part isn't so surprising."

"Jesus. Near... you've got to know that's fucked-up, right?"

With his head tilted downwards to hide his mouth behind the collar of his vest - not to mention the thick goggles - it was difficult to read Matt's expression.

"What's fucked up? That I'm having sex, that I'm having sex with Mello, or that I'm having kinky sex with Mello?" Near was a little surprised to realize that he was mildly annoyed. It wasn't Matt's world that had been turned upside-down. "Turns out the robot's fully-functional."

"Sex isn't supposed to - have you seen your neck?" Part of Matt knew that there was no good reason for his irritation; that Mello could have sex with whoever the fuck he wanted, even robotic albinos with toy fetishes. Whatever. None of his business.

Neck, hell, you should see my back. "That was from the riding crop," Near said mildly. "So it was a bit rough. What's your point?"

"It's not what?" Matt was right, he did know Mello, and Near was curious about what he had to say, even if he wouldn't necessarily agree.

"It's not a good idea," Matt repeated, stubbing out his cigarette.

"Why?" He wanted to know Matt's rationale for the statement. "I'm not proposing to him, I'm sleeping with him. And I'm well aware that it's Mello, with all the hot temper that comes with him." He managed not to append that with, and it makes him a spitfire in the sack.

"Because - it just isn't, okay? He's already got this pathological obsession with beating you, and everything gets more complicated when you add sex to the mix."

"Unless he's content with beating me literally." Near couldn't help chuckling. "And yeah, it feels kind of complicated. But it also feels good, and there isn't enough that feels good for me to be willing to abandon it."
