As a final round to the Prefect Debates, Prefect candidates may now make a four sentence closing statement that expresses why your housemates should vote for you to be their Prefect. The statement is optional. You have until approximately 8:00 p.m., Central Daylight Time on Monday, July 10, 2006 to make your statement. Students and Staff members may ask for clarification in the comments.

As an aid to both candidates and voters, we are providing links to some of the statements made by winning candidates in the previous election:

Kaylee

Sara

((OOC: Obviously, the statement must comply with comm. rules, but otherwise, anything goes!))

All right, everyone, step away from the chars and listen up. We've recently had to deal with a few problems that revolve around IC/OOC separation and fourth wall breakage, so for the entire comm's benefit, you're getting a lovely long announcement about exactly what the Hogwarts Hocus stance is concerning those two. [livejournal.com profile] hogwarts_hocus was created as a parody of elite sorting/rating comms, a place where you can just fill out an application (after reading the rules, of course!), create a journal and join. It's not meant to be immensely difficult to play with/in, and we rely a lot on the honor system because there is no way the mods can read every single thread, so unless you report problems to us, then we'll remain unaware of them.

  • In Hogwarts Hocus, we observe IC/OOC separation. IC stands for "in character"; OOC stands for "out of character". You as a player will have knowledge that your character does not have, just from reading the posts in the community. Observing IC/OOC separation means that you will not allow your OOC knowledge to affect the way you play your character. In other words, you are not Miss Cleo. (Those of you for whom this is a totally new concept may find this article on IC/OOC separation helpful. We didn't write it but we think it's a very good treatment of the subject.)

If the IC/OOC boundary is violated, the moderators may enforce a retcon negating any RP or plot development resulting from the violation.

When in doubt as to whether your character would have had occasion to know a given fact about another character, feel free to ask OOCly! OOC comments are to be enclosed in double brackets, to keep the division clear.

  • Be careful what you do with meta. HH is a crack crossover comm (say that ten times really fast) but it also does try to make the RPing experience enjoyable for everyone. And not everyone has characters who can handle finding out that they're fictional.

In other words, shhhh. Don't tell the characters that they're not real. Let them cherish their delusions.

If you want to tell a char that they're from a book/movie/cartoon series/game/comic/epic poem, get mun permission first and preferably don't do it anywhere that other chars from that series can see unless you've checked with those muns as well. Imparting reality-shattering information is a pretty serious responsibility, so tread carefully.

In the past, we've had instances of characters giving away other character's origins, such as Tyler asking about Jason's comic books; although in that case, it was played off as the comic books simply being written about Jason and not Jason actually being from them, it could have gone wrong easily. Although most people already understood that you shouldn't try to break the fourth wall into pieces and then tapdance on it unless you've got a willing partner, we've had some reports that people didn't know such a rule existed. So we're stating it clearly now: do not inform a character that s/he is fictional without mun consent beforehand.

Any other types of meta you want to play with, like your chars reading the comics series, discussing who plays them in real life, commenting on how similar two chars look if they have the same PB etc, are all perfectly fine. You can do whatever you want on your own as long as it won't ICly leak over to other char's being faced with unexpected revelations.

And remember, the comm is open to RPers of all skill levels, so don't assume that someone has done something out of spite or malice. They could honestly be unaware of any such rule, and willing to fix it if you just talk to them politely.

We encourage you to contact us with anything you need to discuss, preferably after making a good-faith attempt to talk to the other mun(s) in question first. If you can resolve the problem with a few deletions and some retconning, well done! If not, we're willing to step into the breach and defend the crossover crack comm known as [livejournal.com profile] hogwarts_hocus.

So after the excitement that was eating the chocolates, Jack was still a dingo and quite happily pulled JD along. Heading back to Gryffindor tower, forgetting the fact that JD didn't make any sense and he couldn't talk, still.

Jack remembered when he was sat outside the painting, looking hopefully between the fat lady and JD. Jack made the most pityful whine he could manage.

A Japanese boy stands in the Sorting Room, wearing a school uniform with a strange metal collar around his neck. He seems pretty surprised at his surroundings... or maybe it's not just that. With a blank expression, he lifts a hand and slowly waves it in front of his face, squinting, then touches it to his eyes. Needing further convincing, he lowers his hand further to touch the collar around his neck... and smiles, slowly.

I flipped a coin... )
