A stroll by the lake [Open RP]

Soon will be the night of the Cotton Drifting festival. It will be a little bit strange to celebrate it outside of Hinamizawa, but not necessarily in a bad way. There isn't a river on the grounds, but Rika finds that the lake could work. It would be a lot of work to do, but Rika saw the many gazebos the house elves built, so she knew that they are able to do the worst part in setting up the festival.

Rika walks around the grounds of Hogwarts nearby the lake so that she can look closely at the area most of the festival should be in. The weather is good outside today, so she quietly enjoys the sunlight. Perhaps a picnic would be fun some other time, she thinks.

Coraline nodded. "I thought so. Somebody would probably have mentioned it if it was." And a few of the replies had seemed unhelpful. She'd taken note of the ones that weren't, though.

She turned to look out at the lake. "Have you ever seen it?"

"Yes. The squid will occasionally surface, but I do not think it would attack unless provoked." Splashing isn't included as an attack.

"I'll make sure not to provoke it, then." She rather doubted she'd be able to fight it off. "Do you think it can come out of the water? Octopuses can. I saw that on a documentary. There was an octopus in a tank that kept escaping to another tank to eat crabs."

"I haven't seen it outside of the lake, but sometimes it can be over the surface of the water," Rika only watched the news or something her young friend would like. "I would like to think the squid is mostly harmless, because soon I want to host a festival and I need to borrow the lake for a part of it."

Coraline turned back from the lake to face Rika, interested. "What kind of festival?"

"A cotton drifting festival. In my village on the day of the festival there are a lot of games and food to enjoy, then at night I do a dance with a ritual hoe and cut out cotton from a blanket. Everyone will get some cotton and normally drift it down a river as the conclusion of the festival," Rika has no intention of ever telling Coraline about the murders that happen around that day.

"So you want to drift it in the lake instead?" Which made sense, since she hadn't seen a river nearby, at least not yet. "I've never heard of a cotton drifting festival before."

"That is correct," Rika smiles brightly at Coraline. "The festival in my village is a little bit connected to our local religion and faith, so a cotton drifting festival may not be as wide spread as some others."

Coraline was not religious. Her parents went to church at Christmas and for weddings and things, but that was all. "What does it mean? It sounds fun, anyway."
