The appointed hour had come, and the Great Hall was set up for a karaoke party, just like Ryuuji had promised. There were tables with snacks and drinks, chairs set up next to them to let people sit down, a stage with a karaoke machine and their host for the evening was currently standing up there, waving cheerfully at the people starting to come in.

"Hey, everyone! Thanks for showing up. I hope you all have a good night -- remember, duets are the most awesome thing ever -- and enjoy the performances! I'm kick-starting the night with a song from Voltaire that's dedicated to the old reputation of Slytherin, and then I'll hand the mike over to anyone that wants to show off."

Without any further ado, he launched into a self-mocking rendition of When You're Evil.

((Okay everyone, play nice. Stick your songs up on whatever site you like or link to the artist directly if they'll let you, but make sure you include a link to the song in your comment. If you want your char to sing but ICly they wouldn't, put 'ENABLE ME' in the subject line of your comment and someone will wander by to encourage them to belt out a ballad.))

((Yay Voltaire! ♥))

She considers something for a minute, then decides to go for it. "Oh, I have a song!"

It doesn't take any nudging to get La Fee Verte to sing, and she skips and gambols merrily as she does.

Max Headroom rolled up to the stage on his skateboard, hydraulic arms already holding the TV set aloft. He had a song, and by dang he was ready!

"Hel-LO all you wacky Hogwartsians - er, Hogwartsers - Hogwartsese? Here's a little ditty that goes out to you all from the bottom of my bytes!"

And he spoke-sang They're Coming to Take Me Away. (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=232BB0F45505635D) (Lyrics) (http://www.leoslyrics.com/listlyrics.php;jsessionid=83D9B8DC447CAD37A81D5F5B84FE9E60?hid=60itMYNutBU%3D)

Brenda Johnson sat at a table, a glass of her favorite merlot in front of her, and listened to the singers, applauding politely for each one.

Truth be told, she was slightly homesick and missing her man, and really wasn't in the mood for a party. But she was even less in the mood for moping around alone and pigging out on pastries in her room. So, karaoke wins by a nose.

Chiana's feeling expressive tonight. So she gets herself nice and drunk and belts out Another for Another (http://download.yousendit.com/35CFDF1C7B2C31AE) (lyrics) (http://lennon.musiccitynetworks.com/lite.htm?id=2096#5746). And when she's done, she goes back to getting drunk. It seems like a great idea.

Bernard, as usual being rather drunk on several bottles of wine, decided it would be a great idea to sing. Staggering up to the stage, cigarette firmly clamped between his lips, he began belting out Ozymandias (http://www.mediafire.com/?d5fow0reymm) - which may or not be a little harder to understand when sung in a very Irish, slurring voice.

Jack never missing a trick to show off, has to sing. "Because this has to be dedicated to my JD." Jack had that miscevious grin before he started singing
I Touch Myself (http://download.yousendit.com/817B332D6B7DE4B7) and there was dancing, well it was interesting. Really it was a very good sentiment to... no there really was no way explaining this apart from it was so very Jack and he'd dedicated it to JD who he was grinning at all the time he was dancing... again loosest sense of the term. When he finished he headed over to JD.

JD stood there in the audience, not sure whether to grin or die of embarrassment. Blushing furiously, he smiled sheepishly to Jack as he approached. "Very... Physical." he said quietly to him, smiling broader this time.

Jack was still on a high from being an attention whore all that singing and dancing. "Think so?" He grinned. "You think the dancing was that good?"

JD conciously stepped to the side to let Jack block the faces of most people staring at them as he blushed a bit more. "It was inventive, I didn't know that-, well." he smiled a little. "I think that you break physics or something."

Laura couldn't help but feel a bit low, as it had occurred to her that it was very, very close to the date of her death, in the small hours of the morning on February 25, 1989. Karaoke seemed like both the perfect outlet and cure.

So she got on stage and sang a song that reminded her of Twin Peaks:

Whiter Shade of Pale (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=9AD12F620E4AE559) (Annie Lennox version) (http://www.lyricsdomain.com/1/annie_lennox/a_whiter_shade_of_pale.html)

From: [identity profile] dinosaurman.livejournal.com
Grant hadn't seen Laura all day, which in and of itself was odd. While he would normally avoid karaoke, Grant stopped by to see if she was there.

She was, and he was just in time to watch her take the stage. The song choice was rather odd, and to be honest, Laura was looking a whiter shade of pale herself. After she finished, Grant went over to her table.

"You should sing more often," was all that he said.

Date: 2007-02-25 08:22 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wh0-kill3d-m3.livejournal.com
She shrugged. "I'm not always in the mood. Then again, I was kind of hoping it'd get me out of a mood."

Date: 2007-02-25 08:31 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wh0-kill3d-m3.livejournal.com
Another shrug. "Yeah, it helped some. Doing something helps. Reminds me I'm alive, you know?"

From: [identity profile] dinosaurman.livejournal.com
Grant had known that the anniversary of Laura's death was coming up, but had decided not to broach the subject if she didn't. It was one thing to commemorate the death of a loved one, but asking the deceased for suggestions was a bit crass, to say the least. Still, maybe this would be a way to bring it out into the open.

"Doing something," he repeated. "What other things would help remind you?"

From: [identity profile] wh0-kill3d-m3.livejournal.com
"I'm not sure. I've been trying to figure that out all day, and nothing seems quite right. Eating my favorite foods...walking around the gardens...playing with the critters in my menagerie...It doesn't seem like it's quite enough, you know?" She looked him full in the face. "Do you know? What's got me feeling like this?"

Date: 2007-02-25 09:03 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dinosaurman.livejournal.com
"I've got an idea," Grant said. "The anniversary of your death is coming up, isn't it?"

Date: 2007-02-25 09:08 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wh0-kill3d-m3.livejournal.com
Laura nodded. "Yeah. Tomorrow or the next day, somewhere in the middle of the night. I know it's just another day, but - it's a reminder, you know? What I've been through, what I've lost. It doesn't feel right to just pretend the anniversary isn't there."

Date: 2007-02-25 09:24 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dinosaurman.livejournal.com
"No," Grant agreed, "pretending that it's not there doesn't make much sense. It's not just another day, no matter how much you want it to be."

Date: 2007-02-25 09:29 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wh0-kill3d-m3.livejournal.com
She nodded. "I think part of the problem is, I'm working without a script here. I mean, birthdays, anniversaries, one-time-only deaths - we've got traditions for those. But there isn't really a ritual for people who've come back from the dead to mark the occasion."

Date: 2007-02-25 09:47 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dinosaurman.livejournal.com
"That's where we start making stuff up," he said. "You're trying to make yourself feel alive, but maybe you need something to acknowledge that you've died, too. We could steal traditions from celebrating life and death. Glossing over what you have been through isn't going to make you feel satisfied, Laura." Grant placed his hand over hers and rubbed the back of her hand with his thumb.

Date: 2007-02-25 09:50 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wh0-kill3d-m3.livejournal.com
Laura smiled and relaxed a little at the contact.

"Yeah. Yeah, I can see that, I think. I've been avoiding facing it, haven't I?" She turned her hand over to clasp his. "What would I do without you?"

Date: 2007-02-25 09:58 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dinosaurman.livejournal.com
Grant snorted. "Go out with nice, rich boys who take you dancing and make you happy? Spend time with people who don't think a wild night involves spending it with half a petting zoo?" Flashes of insight into other people's problems? On occasion. Taking a compliment gracefully? Never.

Date: 2007-02-25 10:01 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wh0-kill3d-m3.livejournal.com
Laura gasped in mock outrage. "Hey! Half that petting zoo's mine, buster. And my experience? Boys like that are great when you're happy. When you're down or in trouble? Not so much." She grinned. "In fact, I think I may feel another song coming on..."

Date: 2007-02-25 10:06 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dinosaurman.livejournal.com
"You only get half because your half has more legs," Grant argued, but he was smiling anyway. "Oh? Are you going to tell me what it is, or will it be a surprise?"

Date: 2007-02-25 10:11 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wh0-kill3d-m3.livejournal.com
"Surprise, of course. I've got a track record to maintain." She kissed his cheek and stood to take the stage again.

Neal was in the mood to make a spectacle of himself. And he'd spent the last few days learning the words to a particular song, which he was rather proud of. He was new to the idea of karaoke, but that wasn't about to stop him.

Before he could talk sense into himself, Neal took the stage with Word Disassociation (http://lemondemon.com/lemondemon/Word%20Disassociation.mp3) by Lemon Demon.

((*facepalm* I meant to post this two days ago. Stupid snow. Stupid class. Oh, and if anyone asks, Tomo totally forgot who dared her to do this song.))

"HEY, EVERYBODY! START THE PARTY, I'M HERE!"

Yes, that stampeding sound from down the hall was caused by one teenage girl.

Tomo bounces in, looking around the crowd curiously for someone she knows.
