Closed rp; The Doctor & Jack

Jack had gone for a wander to find the Doctor to get that seasonal drink and he hand eventually ended up in the great hall sat at a table picking at a bunch of grapes occasionally that were sat in a dish before him, looking happy and trying to make a list as he sat but getting distracted by people watching which was a perfectly reasonable distraction for him. This is why he really needed Ianto or someone telling him to focus. It wasn't long before his list of things to do had become a page of doodles, none of them charmed (thankfully).

"I won't." Jack had had plenty of chances to that earlier but hadn't.

Jack hadn't heard the Doctor talk of anything like that before. "Huh, don't think that would be the best for us, me and JD having some sort of psychic bond." JD didn't need to know about the nightmares. "Still sounds a lot less stressful."

"Well you're not psychic, so no need to worry about that." The Doctor rolled his eyes. "I suppose it's a bit of stress, but there's not nearly as much preparation. You lot, you've got flowers and catering and bridesmaids and best men and dresses and tuxes and all that. There's no after party, not officially, unless someone decides they want to hold a bit of a celebration at their place. And there are specific robes that the bride and groom wear. The only problem there is tailoring one to fit. See, there are official robes for everything, it's ridiculous. School robes, robes for the High Council--those are ridiculous, mind, bright orange with these huge half moon headdresses." He shook his head. "Never let it be said that we had the best fashion sense. Dunno how anyone ever goes through it with a straight face. Probably too nervous to laugh or something. Robes and invitations and getting the time of the High Council representative, that's usually about it."

"Well..." Jack summoned up a bottle and handed it over. "But what about parents being there?" That was an odd direction to take the conversation in.

"What about them? It's sort of like any old wedding, they come if they can make it, if they're invited. 'Course when I say they're not very fun, you do get one or two now and then that sort of rock the foundation. But the High Council's pretty strict about what goes on, which is probably why they're usually so uninteresting in the first place. Loads of fun, that lot, barrel of laughs."

"I miss my mom."

"Yeah, well, we all gotta grow up and face the big wide universe at some point. I think it's just about in everyone's DNA to miss people like that." He clapped Jack on the back. "If I had my TARDIS I'd take you to see her, but as it is..."

"So what have I been doing so far then?" Jack sort of smiled. "Thanks but I don't think I'd want her to know what I've become. Not sleeping properly, the nightmares. Everything like that."

"Wouldn't tell her that bit, no, but come on, look at what you've done with yourself!" He opened the door to the Astronomy Tower. Things looked more and more homey. "I mean, maybe not so much about the conman business, but Time Agent, met a wonderful bloke called the Doctor, not to mention a beautiful woman named Rose, headed a branch of a prestigeous Earth organization--I say that because you wouldn't want to tell her the nitty gritty realities and all, and then, magic! You're getting married, Jack! That's got to beat out everything else."

"Yeah, but she'd know. I mean she'd take one look at me and know." Jack followed the Doctor. "Make yourself at home."He laughed briefly. "And don't forget I helped save the world, on more than one occassion too."He pointed. "I think that's a fairly big thing."

"Exactly! So what if she knows the rest. She's your mum. Got a feeling that's what they do. You wanna know what else they do? Like any other Human being, they forgive, because to them, you're always going to be that stupid, adorable kid who's still learning the facts of life." He poured himself a drink. "Probably."

"Wait are you calling me adorable yet stupid, still a kid. Both of those or something else?" He was confused get grinning.

"I'm calling you you, so to stifle any further confusion, pull up a seat and have a drink."

"Good." Jack found a suitable spot and sat on the floor. "I plan to drink. A lot."

"You thought about a bachelor party?"

"You mean my life til now?"

He grinned. "Good point." After a few moments of musing, "Are you going to invite Suzie, then?"

"Now she's started calling JD by his actual name, I can try and convince JD to let her be there." Jack reached for the closest bottle. "Wouldn't be right without her and now she has her expensive dress can't deny her can I."

"Jack, she shot you in the head, I think it would feel perfectly right without her there. But doesn't matter, just as long as she doesn't cause a scene." He sipped at his drink. "JD's a good bloke. Felt sort of bad that I couldn't think of anything better to give him than assorted tea."

"And I shot her." Jack shook his head. "Alright so part of me is saying keep her there so I know what she's up to. I can keep an eye on her." Jack looked at the bottle he had.

"You know, I think he's just glad you thought of him. Hell even you just spending time talking to him makes him happy. He's just a little, okay a lot excitable. He hasn't seen whats out there like we have. Doesn't know what goes on in." He gesutured vaguely to the roof. "Isn't as fed up with most of the universe like me. He reminds me there is something worth saving." Jack smiled softly and shook his head. "Makes me feel like I used to."

"Always something worth saving. If there wasn't anything worth saving, d'you think I'd be around? Nah, I'd have offed m'self years ago. Because if none of it's worth saving then none of it's worth looking at either. Humanity, I've found, is in need of saving a lot."

He laughed a bit and finished off his drink. "Yeah, he does tend to get a bit annoying with how excited he is at, well...at everything. Did you see the way he reacted when I was talking about K-9? I think that's all any of us needs, someone to make us think the universe is beautiful again. Like Rose."

Jack started laughing, then stopped suddenly to down half the bottle he held. Being slient in thought for a few minutes before he finally spoke. "So Rose is to you what JD is to me?"

"That's the way I see it." Now, he hadn't downed nearly as much as Jack did, but certainly he'd gotten started on more drinking. "Not so much now--how it used to be, you know. We need a person to smack us upside the head, literally or metaphorically, and open our eyes a bit, don't you think?"

"Let's us remember who we were and how we used to be!" Jack sighed. "Am I doing the right thing?"

"I can drink to that!" Which he did. "Oi, and don't ask me that sort of thing, Jack. If you're having second thoughts, talk to JD."

"I should. I will. Think he'd change his mind?"Jack looked up at the Doctor.
