The bell began to strike midnight.

One. Two. Three. Four.

A brief chill passed through the Great Hall. Jack’s grin widened.

Five. Six. Seven.

He glanced up at the words above the door. They still looked perfectly innocent.

Eight. Nine. Ten. Eleven.

There was a distinct change in the atmosphere as the spell began to work. The world turned more unstable.

Twelve.

ASK NOT FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS, IT TOLLS FOR THEE

The words began to glow...

((• At the stroke of midnight, the characters currently in the Great Hall shall turn into whatever they’re dressed as. Their memories will be altered, so they won’t remember who they are.
• The spell is limited to the Great Hall, so should any character leave it, they’ll turn back into themselves, probably a wee bit confused. Should they re-enter, they’ll fall under the spell again.
• Muns for very powerful characters (Antichrists, gods, anthropomorphic representations, religious figures of any sort), I leave it up to you to decide if you want your character to remember who they are. Just remember, should any of them attempt to force other characters to remember who they are as well, they will fail, no matter how powerful they are.
• The instant it seems like a character is going to hurt another character, the spell will wear off for both of them. It’s up to each individual mun to decide what happens after that.
• The spell will wear off permanently the next day. It’s up to you if your character remembers what he or she did while they were under it.
• Have fun! Okay, so it’s not a rule, more of a recommendation, but still. ^_^ Also, you got any questions, or feel like I left anything out, send me an OOC note, yes?))

A casual shrug of slender shoulders, making the cloak ripple behind him, and the vampire responded in a tone of absolute indifference, "I prefere not to accumulate followers. They're really just so much excess baggage, and the novelty of having handy snacks wears off after a while."

White, white teeth flashed in a smirk as he added, "Besides, mortals are less boring when you know only a little about them. Anyone, if their company is enjoyed for too long, grows tiresome. My penchant for variety would make a pet more of a burden than anything else."

Ryuuji snickered at that, nuzzling into the petting of his hair without a second thought, "Well, that's why I'm his boyfriend instead of his pet, so natch." He stuck his tongue out at the vampire, then tilted his head back to grin at the Sidhe, fearlessly exposing the clean line of his throat to the vampire as he did so, "You're my treasure. Of course I protect you."

The vampire eyed the expanse of soft golden skin bared to him, able to see the pulse beating in Ryuuji's neck, thinking of the taste of blood taken straight from the jugular. Really, he just wanted a taste. Why were those two so intent on making this a fight?

"We're lovers?" Because wasn't that what the mortal word 'boyfriend' stood for? And given the way Ryuuji so easily accepted his touch... The Sidhe's thoughts were startled.

They got even more startled at the casual possession. Treasure was something a Sidhe called a mortal lover; something precious and fleeting and hoarded for whatever time they had together. For Ryuuji to think the reverse... Turloch needed to know what was going on between them, and where they were and why they were mingling with Unseelie.

"All those words to say you're lonely and too stubborn to change your circumstances." It wouldn't do to let the Dark One have the last word. But Turloch's mind was focus on the casual intimacy he was watching himself indulge in so instinctively - they were lovers. It made him smile.

"Yeah, of course!" Ryuuji wondered for a second if Terry had been wanting to play something else, Sidhe and his human servant, maybe? Nah. That sounded boring. Instead, he wrinkled his nose impishly at the taller male, liking the smile, even if Terry didn't look quite like himself. He reached up with one hand, tracing over Terry's smile, noting the skin felt warmer than usual, a little chalky. Maybe that was a side-effect of whatever was making his skin glow so prettily?

Rolling his eyes at the display of affection, the vampire gave the Sidhe an amused look, "Really, must everything think that companionship is the be-all and end-all? Some beings can do perfectly well on their own without needing lackeys or sycophants to constantly boost their sense of self-worth, and I happen to be numbered amongst them."

"Every living thing but plants..." He trailed off at the touch on his lips and cheek, unconsciously closing his eyes. That felt... He couldn't begin to think how that felt. And it made him smile again. Ryuuji did not act like a Sidhe lover. He was far too affectionate. He was possessive and over protective and thought of himself as an equal. And that couldn't help but intrigue a Sidhe Lord. He had no trouble believing he'd picked this feisty mortal and maybe brought him Underhill for his own.

It was a moment before he opened his eyes again. "Are you lonelier knowing that someone with your face is far less isolated and is untouched by death? Do you regret the loss of your innocence, Unseelie, behind your mocking words? Would you change your alliance for a touch?" Turloch turned to look at the vampire. "I do not believe your words that you want nothing of this."

Reaching out his hand, the Sidhe stroked Ryuuji's face, wondering what his touch felt like to the mortal.

Mmm. Burn. Glad that Terry's glamors didn't seem to be affecting that, Ryuuji nuzzled against the touch to his cheek, turning his head just a little to brush his lips over the other's hand in a light, affectionate kiss.

Then twisted just enough to stick his tongue out at the vampire again, "C'mon. Even Luca likes me. Why wouldn't you?"

"I have no idea who your 'Luca' is, nor do I care." The vampire retorted disdainfully, having watched the way the Sidhe relaxed under the mortal's touch with a pang of jealousy that he couldn't quite understand. Instead of dwelling on it, he instead pointed out to the Sidhe, "I am not a 'living thing'. I am one of the undead, and as for him--"

He gestured sharply at Ryuuji with a white-gloved hand, "His face will soon lose its beauty, and then you will lose your interest in him. Untouched by death he might be for a moment, but all mortals perish eventually." He ran his hand over his own face, skin cold but marble-smooth, then stepped closer to the two of them, "I will remain beautiful forevermore. My alliance lies with myself, and that shall be as unchanged as my visage, which unlike his will remain fair as the centuries pass."

Date: 2006-11-02 07:48 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tomorrow-knight.livejournal.com
He'd almost pulled Ryuuji back from the sharp movement. But the gesture didn't look to have the energy to extend any further and in the end, it hadn't.

"If I wanted unchanging, I think I would have chosen one of my own." He couldn't help chuckling. "And he is very...different. As unlike the Sidhe as Moon and Stars to Sun."

Turloch turned and reached easily towards the same exact features, now set holding a darker spirit. "You on the other hand would be the same century after century." The Sidhe's fingetips were close enough to graze, in fact that was his objective. "Cold, callus and far less memorable."

From: [identity profile] ringoate-mybaby.livejournal.com
"He is certainly rather... enthusiastic." The vampire agreed, then addressed his next question to Ryuuji, "I wonder, are you on any sort of mortal stimulants?"

Correctly guessing what the creature meant, Ryuuji widened his eyes and shook his head in protest, "No! Just 'cause you're Mr. Gloomy Doom doesn't mean that other people can't just be happy naturally."

"Naturally." The vampire repeated derisively, whether in agreement or mockery left ambiguous. Pupilless' eyes narrowed as the Sidhe reached out for him, but the vampire made no move to back away, responding, "As are you--"

His words broke off as the touch of the Sidhe caused heat to flare within him, like the rush of desire that came from drinking after a long thirst, or the sudden swell of warmth once he was sated. Like, but not quite.

With uncanny speed, he reached up and caught the Sidhe's wrist, fingers gloved, intent on taking the creature's hand away and trusting to the cloth to prevent more of that odd reaction.

His fingers tingled and then the creature, the Unseelie, had caught his arm. Or the Dark One caught his arm and then his fingers tingled. Startled and disliking it, the knife in his other hand shifted to press the point.

"You might not die, but you would surely bleed, and with discomfort, should I press inward. Release me." The shift of his stance and tension in his body were all of intent, acute focus on the being before him. The Sidhe's fingers, however, remained touching skin. Turloch's arm went solid to prevent himself from being drawn in. Lips grim, he continuedto glare, sure that he'd unknowingly triggers some Unseelie trap.

From: [identity profile] ringoate-mybaby.livejournal.com
"Stop touching me first." The vampire retorted, not too dismayed by the knife's point that touched over his heart. There were plenty of mortals in the room. He could easily feed off any of them.

The feel of the fingers against his inhumanly smooth skin, though, that was disturbingly on a level the knife could not even approach. It felt warm, like the fire that could consume and kill a vampire.

Behind the two of them, Ryuuji had shifted into a fighting stance, shadows curling up around the vampire's feet and then flicker-racing up his body, to the wrist of the hand that he had used to catch Terry's hand. Voice clear, words pronounced distinctly, Ryuuji told the vampire in a tone that's lightness belied its intent, "Okay, better idea. Let go of him, or I break your wrist."

From: [identity profile] tomorrow-knight.livejournal.com
Distress. If the Dark One insisting he stop touching it, then he'd touch it until he let go. His thumb curved over the apple of a cheek and his fingers wiggled and the Sidhe felt himself grow alarmed as the easy, warm relaxation that Ryuuji's touch brought him was replicated and multiplied. Sidhe didn't want like that. Old or young, centuries or tens of centuries; they dallied with, felt fond of, comforted by others. But want?

"Is that...? That's not you?" He pulled his fingers back and then turned to look at Ryuuji. Did his mortal lover just say he'd break the -- He turned back, noticing the shadow magic. The sensation bouncing between him and the Unseelie could be the only reason he'd missed that.

A mortal with that kind of power, who was his lover. The Sidhe couldn't help wondering what he'd been planning before arriving at this gathering.

From: [identity profile] ringoate-mybaby.livejournal.com
The flicker of cool energy around his wrists made the vampire's gaze dip downwards for a second towards the purple-blue twists of shadows around his wrists. He arched an eyebrow at the mortal, but most of his attention was still taken up by the odd, strong heat that the Sidhe's touch caused in him.

When the creature finally let go, the vampire couldn't drop his hand fast enough, stepping back and out of touching territory. Eyes narrowed, he stated coldly, "Your kind might be used to arousing desire in all they touch, but my kind are not prey, or pets. I would thank you to keep your wiles to yourself."

Ryuuji's eyes widened slightly at that, and he levelled a furious glare at the vampire, corners of his mouth twisted down, "Arousing what? T- Black Shuck wouldn't do anything like that. He's mine. You're just imagining it or trying to scapegoat him."

"CuSith" The Sidhe corrected automatically. Lovers didn't use mortal titles. Though he still wouldn't give Ryuuji his full and true name, not yet.

He glared back at the Dark One, however, while rubbing his wrist and stroking the inside of his own hand. "I am not Leanan Sidhe and you are no poet. This is no seduction in trade for inspiration. And I would not want something as cool and calculating as you in my bed. Far less when I clearly already have a mortal lover. They tend to be jealous and this one is no less so." Which was as close as he'd come to wincing at the 'mine'. Sidhe belonged to no one. But it was difficult not to believe he'd promised himself somehow to Ryuuji. There was just too much that was easy between them. And he'd never been an easy being.

"There was something there. Some combination of your natural magics if you have them, and mine. It mimicked affection. But it was not intentional. I do not want you." The very concept of it made his jaw set.

From: [identity profile] ringoate-mybaby.livejournal.com
Eyes still narrowed, the vampire met the Sidhe's gaze directly, thin, sensous lips set in a firm line, fangs a hint of white under the red of his lips, "Then I'm glad we're agreed on that much, creature. I have no interest in taking something so self-righteous and arrogant to my bed, even if it would come with an amusingly passionate little mortal pet."

Under his breath, Ryuuji muttered, "The 'pet' thing is getting really old." Stepping closer to Terry, trying to nest against him, he glared at the vampire as well, wondering why the hell everyone had to be taller than him. Damnit, he was usually one of the tallest people around!

Chin tilted up defiantly, he added, "And I'm not jealous. Just protective."

The vampire laughed at that, genuinely amused, a little of the wrath at what he thought of as the Sidhe's tricks dissipating. "And I dine on dewdrops and starlight."

"He's not a pet. He's a lover." And quite possibly an ally, with magic like that. But he wouldn't think about that now.

Still staring down the vampire, the Sidhe paused when he felt Ryuuji leaning against him. He looked down mildly confused and then recognized the seeking - craving of physical affection. After the throbbing, confusion of before, this was easy and simple. The Sidhe wrapped an arm around Ryuuji and tuned back into the conversation.

"There's nothing to be jealous of." He was looking at the Dark One now. "You've said yourself I'd make a poor meal and you don't believe in companions." The Sidhe couldn't hide a slight smirk. " Or at least that's what you say."

From: [identity profile] ringoate-mybaby.livejournal.com
"So there!" Ryuuji stuck his tongue out, pleased at getting backup and nuzzled the Sidhe happily at having an arm wrapped around him. Mmm. Terry. Happy-making Terry!

He couldn't help but grin, even as he wrapped his own arms over Terry's, contentedly holding it close and revelling in the warmth and comfort. Burn-inducing Terry, yay!

The vampire gave them both an amused look, recovering a little of his equilibrium now it looked like no more touching would occur, "I don't believe in companions for the longterm. A night or two of entertainment, perhaps a month at the utmost, is a different matter."

From: [identity profile] tomorrow-knight.livejournal.com
The Sidhe shrugged, a bare shift and twitch of his shoulders. He looked down at Ryuuji. "It is a mystery how one who looks so much like you would let himself become as hardened as all that; Unseelie or no."

He looked across at the other. "Have you not thought of one of your kind for companionship? Or will you say that unless they serve you, you have no wish for them? Following the political decrees of your Unseelie Masters?"

There was the slightest bit of tension in his back as he thought about what it meant to have two beings who looked identical except for the markings of mortal and immortal. And who caused similiar reactions in him.

Putting a finger under Ryuuji's chin, he murmured. "Do mortals such as you live longer than the blink of the Sidhe's eye?" And then a small smile. "Are you the fair brother?"

Date: 2006-11-03 05:08 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dice-addict.livejournal.com
"Maybe someone broke his heart." Ryuuji suggested with a thoughtful pout, leaning in a little more with the Sidhe and glad to have his Terry there, "Because when something breaks and you mend it, then you have to harden it to make sure it won't break again. Poor vampire."

He sounded genuinely sorry for the creature, even as the vampire flipped his long, loose hair over his shoulder and smiled a dangerous, uncanny smile, "Pity me not, mortal. Hearts are nothing more than the conveyors of blood, and companionship, againn, is not what I deserve. Those who wish to worship me, may. But only from a distance; I require no followers."

The touch to his chin made Ryuuji grin, head tilted to a side so that he could nuzzle his cheek against Terry's palm, but the question confused him slightly. He hadn't really wanted to have this brought up but...

Biting down on his lower lip slightly, somewhat troubled, he answered, "Yes, I could live for as long as I choose, but I don't understand what you mean by fair brother. The two brothers of my blood are lost to me, and as far as I know, this Lord Very-Long-Name is no relative of mine."

"Are you long in years already m'love?" And he used the phrase on purpose to see how his mortal lover reacted to it. "That you know whether or not one of yours was bespelled to become this... vampire." The twist on the words showed it was unusual term for him.

He hadn't missed the sudden tension when Ryuuji spoke of his longevity. The Sidhe moved closer still to whisper in Ryuuji's ear. "Forgive me, my love for speaking of such things in front of a potential enemy and causing you to answer true."

Head tilted, he looked back at the vampire. "There was a mortal poet who once used the phrase 'She doth protest too much'. And I find it suits you Unseelie. Even now you cannot take your gaze away. And that hunger is not all for food."

Date: 2006-11-03 05:35 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dice-addict.livejournal.com
"Nineteen only." Ryuuji shook his head, a slight smile having touched his lips as the use of 'm'love' and shrugged, aware that Terry had a point. Looking at the vampire, he admitted, "Okay. I don't have proof that he's not related to me, but I recently got my DNA and birth records checked, and I'm sure I didn't have a twin. And if he's as old as he says he is, then there's no way that he could be my brother anyway."

The whisper into his ear calmed him a little; Terry couldn't be too upset if it wasn't enough to break him out of character, right? So he smiled in return, showing he held no grudge against the Sidhe, and squeezed his arm for a second to show it was fine.

The vampire's lips twitched into a smirk, "Oh, so now you are an expert on the ways of my kind? Project not your own desires upon me, fairytale. My curiosity about how his skin resembles mine needs not be the sort of curiosity you seem to have about your mysterious little 'lover'."

From: [identity profile] tomorrow-knight.livejournal.com
The Sidhe's eyes went black, rim to rim, the blue completely swallowed. "You will not. talk about him. in such a manner." He met the vampire's stare cooly. Inhumanly even, one to another.

There was threat in that tone to match the threat he percieved against the mortal life he protected. It didn't matter what Ryuuji could do or what powers he held. He was the charge of a Sidhe Lord and would be respected as such. And a deluded Unseelie Knight, with delusions of spycraft would soon learn better.

It was a look of prelude to war. And the Sidhe didn't even need to unsheath a second knife. He was magic and if the vampire creature doubted it, he'd die.

Date: 2006-11-03 05:53 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dice-addict.livejournal.com
"I will talk about him, you or anyone I choose, in any manner I wish." The vampire responded equally coolly, unafraid of the clear threat that was being made by the Sidhe.

His eyes were too bright for a human, shining against the flat light gold of his skin, and the shine of them hinted at a lust for blood that wouldn't be quenched through mere fighting. Let the Sidhe creature attack him if he wished; the vampire could always use that as a chance to take a bite.

After all, he might not be in favor of starting fights, but anyone would defend themselves if attacked for merely speaking their mind.

Ryuuji's eyes widened, the gamer still nestled up against Terry's chest, and he glanced up at Terry in surprise. Wow. Terry normally wasn't so... forceful.

"Because you lack the aptitude to keep a civil tongue in your head. That explains your isolation. You are incapable of companionship and cover up all your lack with bravado and glamor. Speak to a mirror then, before I separate your head from your body. Unseelie or other, that will kill near anything."

He shifted, using his body to nudge Ryuuji to them walking away. Curiosity was not worth this. And he had never killed indiscriminately in front of a lover, mortal or not. He was far too close now. And he still didn't know the conditions set on this fete. There could be magical repercussions. The effort of holding it all in, however, made him glow, ever so slightly. Magic readying itself to release at a single world or sharp, correct movement.

"I see no reason to treat you with any respect. Were I interested in companionship, then perhaps I'd bother turning on my charm but as it is, I find you wholly uninteresting, nothing more than a self-righteous creature whose arrogance is almost as unattractive as its posturing." The vampire retorted smoothly, shifting his stance a little, a smirk twisting his lips in what was practically an invitation to have at it.

Ryuuji narrowed his eyes at the vampire, even as he obediently stepped clear enough to let them start walking. He didn't move quite yet, though, telling the vampire instead in a manner that was both sharp and vicious, "If you think he's unattractive, then you're blind. And as for posturing, pot, kettle, black anyone?"

The accusations of self-righteousness got left alone, though. That was true enough, after all.

Three steps anda flick of his wrist and the Sidhe was not only in the vampire's space; He was touching bare flesh. "You found my posturing alarming before. And arousing." He was grinning wickedly. But it was the bare teeth of a challenge.

"Can you still stand it? My touch? Is this power not a reason for respect?" For the moment it was easy to ignore his own reactions. He was busy keeping himself between the vampire and Ryuuji and watching the vampire very carefully.

From: [identity profile] dice-addict.livejournal.com
The vampire narrowed his eyes at the Sidhe, even as the sudden heat flushed through his system again at the touch of skin-to-skin. His breathing deepened as if he were taking in the scent of the Sidhe, the taste of the magic that hung around him almost like a palpable thing, and his eyes fixed themselves on the creature's neck and the skin exposed there.

Long fangs slipping out, his smile was a predatory thing, and his words were wickedly self-assured, "You said it was a combination of our magics first, and now you claim that it is somehow yours? Do make up your mind which lie you would rather profess to be the truth."

Ryuuji watched them warily, ready to intervene if necessary. He loved Terry too much to let some vampire tear into him.
