Setting up your razor-wire shrine (Closed RP: River and Stephen Maturin)

River was silent as she led Stephen into their bedroom, not looking at him. "Get undressed and lie down on the bed." Her voice was empty of everything but the words. She ignored him and went to get the barbed wire--- this time remembering to set the ward on it, the same one that they used on the scalpel.


((OOC: Angst. Blood-play. Bondage. Punishment. Barbed wire....

"That is never too much to ask," he said, quietly. "I am so sorry, sweetheart."

"It's... all right." She was breathing easier now, his response calming her. "I said once... we both needed the right to be... crazy. And scary." She relaxed on top of him, her hands stroking his arms, his sides, gentle as she seldom was with him. "Would you just... touch me, for a little? If you want to be inside me while you're doing it, that's all right. And you can climax whenever you want to. I just...." She trailed off, uncertain how to express what she wanted at the moment: to feel safe, and loved--- not a thing to be possessed, but someone, someone, to be cared for--- and to care for him in return. "Did I hurt you too much? With the wire?" she asked softly, following her own train of thought without awareness of how disjointed she might sound.

Stephen was confused. "What do you need me to do? How do you want me to touch you? I am not sure I know, anymore. Do you want me to talk about bats? That seemed to work before."

She laughed despite herself, throwing her head back, then snuggling into his chest. "The way you did after you took me out of the bathtub that time. The way I'm touching you now." Her hands traced gentle circles on his ribs, along his arms, down to his wrists, feeling carefully, tenderly, for marks or sore spots. She turned her head and very, very gently kissed the scar she'd left on his collarbone. "I need you to love me. I need to feel... safe here. With you. The way I felt the very first time I was ever in your room and you held me. I wouldn't have... chased you... like I did, I think, if I hadn't felt so safe when you touched me. It wasn't just that you wanted me, it was how safe I felt when you put your arms around me, and when you wanted me it felt like it was a part of that and like it was so completely safe to let myself want you back, like it couldn't ever not be safe to want something with you---" Her arms slipped around him. "You said you loved me before. I didn't say it back; I'm sorry. I love you too." She freed a hand, took one of his in hers, and pressed gentle kisses in a circle around his wrist, where the barbed wire had been.

"You are always safe with me, no matter what insane notion may be going through my mind at any given time, you know," he said, trying to reassure her, and feeling that he would really be more in his element talking about bats. "You should not have to pay for something a ghost did." That was as blunt as he could be, with himself, where Diana was concerned. He stroked River's back lightly, as one would pet a wary small animal.

River arched into his touch, pushing up against his hand and stretching out against him. "Oh, that feels good..." Her eyes lidded, sticky with salt from all the crying she'd done tonight. "Thank you," she added, when she could speak clearly. "And you don't have to talk. Just... don't stop touching me like this. Please?" She kissed him, gently, her tongue sliding into his mouth, tasting blood where she'd bitten him before.

Stephen returned the kiss with equal softness. He tried to suppress his confusion and calm his mind, for the benefit of her reading, because he did not want to trouble her further than he already had done. One hand continued to pet her, up and down and up again on either side of her spine. The other moved up to stroke her hair. I really am sorry... lao po, xin ai...

River, of course, picked up on the confusion, but wasn't sure what to do about it. "Forgiven," she whispered, sighing, moving gladly under his touch. "You just... startled me, that's all--- one moment you were lying on the bed and then you grabbed me and I just... just reacted, that's what, and I shouldn't have. I think I was a little... hair-triggered, already. From... everything else. This... this helps, though." She kept stroking his sides and arms gently, relaxing now; this time when she kissed him she was a little more passionate, her arms sliding around him as she molded herself to him, not urgently but tenderly, fitting her body around his as if she were liquid, flowing down over him.
