Jing is many things. The King of Bandits is only one of them. He is also a boy who likes mischief (but, then, what boy doesn't?) Having acquired a wand that had been left lying about (no great skill involved there, a mild disappointment. The only trick was avoiding the man (not man) who'd set them out.
Now, without learning to use it, a wand is just a well-polished stick, regardless of the wood (mahogany with an ebony handle) or the core (dragon heartstring). It could be kept polished, but even the most bored of boys can only rub a stick so many times before it becomes tedious and lacking in fulfillment.
So, Jing found the library and is intent on learning how to use his wand. Offers of advice will be accepted as well as those good-natured enough to be practice targets.
((And, if you read that dirty, congratulations, you're corrupted))

Application: Grima Wormtongue, LOTR
Jun. 14th, 2009 03:35 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
A shabby little crow-like man dabbed at his bloody lip with a handkerchief. He made his way through the tower, silent except for the rustling of silk on silk. Saruman was deep in his workings and that left Gríma to contemplate his own failure.
Just when he had finally succeeded in banishing Éomer. (By the Válar, he loved banishing!) He had his own bodyguard, Unfearth. And then, Láthspell. What part of 'forbid his staff' did Háma not understand!?
He swore quietly.
Saruman had been waiting for him at the steps of Orthanc. "The faithful servant returns and bleeds in sympathy, as he should." Those eyes were like fathomless wells. Despite the gentleness of the wizard's voice, Gríma shuddered; to be trapped in the tower with those eyes, to have Saruman's full attention was not something anyone would wish. He felt his eloquence, his very sanity was beginning to ebb away.
Saruman would yet rule Middle Earth, he had no doubt. Gríma's fear was for his own future.
He wandered until he came to a room unlike any other in the tower. It had a low wooden desk rather than stone pedestals almost too high for him to see over. He read the parchment. Was it some sort of test?
( Just questions, my lord. )
"I offer my service. I offer my tongue and everything I have; my experience as counselor through the years." A pitiful offering to a wizard.
"I have read the hogwarts_hocus faq, and understand it is a crazy, cracktastic sorting community and RPG. _Gríma, son of Galmod, called Wormtongue___
I have read the hogwarts_hocus rules and agree to abide by each and every one of them. _Gríma, son of Galmod, called Wormtongue_.
I agree to be a good sport and not get my knickers in a bunch. _Gríma, son of Galmod, called Wormtongue____.
One day, marmalade will rule the world. _Gríma, son of Galmod, called Wormtongue__"
((*Excerpt from the book, (see question 4): "First, make ye right sure there is a dead body in the room, preferably that of her relative you killed yourself. In a pinch, you can use a relation whose death you caused indirectly, but mark you are seated right next to it when you make the puppy-dog eyes at her. Then you may be confident of winning the lady's heart.))
((Taken from movie canon. Yayy, Brad Dourif. But I like to imagine a book-ending would have happened, had Gríma stayed. Insanity, accusations of hobbit-eating and all.
This application is cleared with Legolas' mun. I'm new to writing Tolkien canon, and Gríma's a lot more eloquent than I am, so feel free to point out errors.
Please do not expose Happy Fun Gríma to the color white. He keeps a Secret Diary.))

New Developments and Not-So-New Clarifications
1. Layout
We have one! That is, we have a new one. We hope it is clearer and more legible. More to the point, we can use it and update it with a Basic Account. The links in the sidebar have been reduced to the ones we feel are immediately useful. Rather than link to each professor's CV individually, the sidebar now links to a staff roster that houses all those CV links. The link to the years-old HH wiki has been taken down entirely, as it is by now more a historical document than anything.
Credit for the new layout goes to Kusuriyuri-mun. The header and userpic remain those that our dearly-missed Ryuuji-mun made for us at the beginning of time.
2. Contact post
The contact post is quite out of date, and we understand that its structure is part of the reason why it doesn't get updated as often as it needs. Therefore we're going to put up a new contact post. The major difference here will be that the entries go by character, not by player. You'll see what we mean when we post it.
3. Professorships!

There remain two professorships presently unfilled, both due to popcornings. Hogwarts has openings for a Transfiguration professor and an Astronomy professor. If you already have a professor character, you can't play a second professor. If you don't have a professor character yet, and one of your characters has skills and/or interest in teaching Transfiguration or Astronomy, think about it. Grant-mun some time ago posted some advice for writing HH classes that can give you an idea of what's involved.
4. Computers and television at Hogwarts
( intranet, not Internet; reality shows, not scripted shows )
A final note and/or question: Would it be helpful for us to compile some sort of List of HH!Hogwarts places? Examples might include the Compy Lab, the Mangosteen Grove, and other features of the HH campus that don't appear in HP canon.
Nowe, ich imagine ye are going “what the swyve?” (WTS?) right nowe, by cause that thinges aren a littel different around heere than what ye haue seen bifor. Wel, ich am heere to telle yow that chaunge is good. Sum peple think of chaunge as the werkinge of a capricious fortune upon the blisful stabilitie of lyf, but ich prefer to think of chaunge as the force that kicketh boring people off of the island. All webbes must be blown by the winde so that the spider maye re-cast them, and thus yt is wyth thys websyte, blown by the wind of clene and pure chaunge into the newe and awesome shape yt taketh bifor yower eyes. — Thomas Favent, for the Lords Appellant
