Oh, you humans. So much fuss over a basic feature of your own planet's orbit. A simple little solstice and everyone has a gaudy holiday full of enormous meals, family drama, and decorations everywhere.

Pssst: Spring will come even if you don't throw endless parties. And that won't be a gift from some magical sky fairy either.

I found a fun tradition, though. Somewhere in the school I've hidden a life-size caganer. It's got a few enchantments that might make it easier to find.

There might be a prize involved.

Who cares? [he grins broadly.] Just putting a little stamp on the day. I didn't feel up to a Nefarious Scheme but I wanted to do a little something.

[raises an eyebrow and smirks faintly] I'll ignore the temptation of a crude remark, as long as you plan on letting me know what I'm 'coming along' for in the near future. [is carefully watching the Doctor's face and body language, trying to read his mood]

[It's not usually difficult to tell what the Doctor's feeling and right now is no different. He's definitely excited about something, by the bounce in his step and that gleam he gets in his eye. But whatever it is, he doesn't seem about to let on as he leads the Master off down a branching corridor.]

How near in the future? I thought you liked surprises.

I like being a surprise. [But it's said with an indulgent grin, because the Doctor in a mood like this is a joy on its own, something precious to savor. His smile widens, and he might not exactly be bouncing but there's plenty of spring in his stride; almost an unconscious mirroring.] But you're quite good at surprises yourself. When you're not being especially maddening.

Well.... [He shrugs, still smiling but not saying anything else. He's been working on this particular surprise for a long time. when they finally reach their destination after crossing what feels like half the school, the Doctor's practically bouncing.]

[There's a suspicious glint in the Master's eye; for the Doctor to be this cheerful suggests he's been Up To Something, and knowing the Doctor, that could be anything. But he looked pleased with himself, and the Master didn't think he was expecting s hostile reaction. He laughed and waved a hand.] What's got you grinning like that, then?
