They'd raced through the dungeon, Kuronue taking the West end, Kurama the East, and by the time they met up again, every water pipe in the place was glowing a different color. Some were even alight with colors that didn't even exist, or sparkled and dripped in disconcerting ways.

"Excellent," Kurama grinned, shoving his wand back into its holster. "I wonder what'll happen once the sprinklers go on in the greenhouses."

There was a long pause of contemplation.

"I think you might wanna take a day or two off work," Kuronue said, catching a distant tinkle of glass as something in that general area broke. Or, broke free.

"D'you think we might not have planned this out too carefully?" Kurama asked.

Another long pause.

“Still, you know... No need to get tentacle raped or something.” Kuronue looked oddly pleased at the possibility of such happening however. Especially since he knew it was possible.

Well, it was Kurama.

((OOC - Kuro socking done with mun approval. Basic chocolate plot rules apply, all the water in the school is magicked, cursed, charmed, and so forth, all with different effects up to the mun. Have fun!))

Damn it Sammy, Dean thought to himself. The kid was too smart already, Dean had forgotten how intuitive to him Sam had been when they were younger, hiding things from his brother was like trying to hide them from himself and yet to protect Sam he did it all the same, because Dean's life was just that, surrogate father and protector to his younger brother. Dean's face gave him away for one moment before he just started walking, taking Sam along with him "You talk too much Sammy, we're fine, I'm not gonna let any thing happen to yo...."

Dean trailed off as he heard a gruff familiar voice but when he looked up there was some thing different about the owner of that voice and Dean's mouth popped off before he could think twice "Crap Uncle Bobby, you got old."

He pulled a face, "And you got young. Damnit Dean, what the hell happened?"

Sammy whirled around, a smile on his little face. "Uncle Bobby! When did you get here?" Before waiting for an answer, he ran at old hunter, throwing his arms around his legs. "I missed you. Are you here to come get us? I wanna play with Rufus!"

Bobby couldn't talk around the lump in his throat as Sam hugged his knees. God he was so young. He reached down and tousled his dark hair. "I missed you too, kid," he said softly.

Dean looked like the guilty kid with his hand caught in the cookie jar as he didn't even catch on the you goy young comment, all he heard was Damnit Dean, what the hell happened and that guilt he bore every day for any thing that happened to Sam weighed his young shoulders down as he looked at Bobby. "I dunno, he came out of the bath like that. But I'm gonna fix it, I can take care of him!" Dean didn't mean to sound as defensive as he did, but the last thing he wanted as for Bobby to tell John.

He still couldn't help but smile at Sam and the way he hugged on to Bobby "Gotta admit, he's a hell of a lot cuter then than at twelve." Dean tried joking, hoping maybe Bobby would just help him fix this and their dad wouldn't ever have to know.

"You aren't gonna tell Dad, are you?"

Bobby instantly regretted snapping at Dean. The boy spent his entire life looking after Sam and whenever anything went wrong, he blamed himself. He wondered if Dean ever had a day when he wasn't burdened by some sort of responsibility. "I know you can son," he assured. "You've always taken care of him."

He looked down at Sam, "Yeah. You both were. Don't worry. I won't tell your Dad. Come on, let's get you something to wear Sammy, then we'll rustle up some lunch and set things right. Does that sound good?"

"Uh-huh," Sammy said, finally releasing Bobby's legs and returning to hold Dean's hand. Uncle Bobby and Dean seemed upset about something, which always made him worry.

Dean seemed to buck up at that, those slumped shoulders pulled back straight and as self sufficient as he was, it was plain to see that the encouragement and being told he was doing a good job meant a lot to the boy, because no there was never a day and there would never be a day that he didn't carry that responsibility, it was that responsibility that made Dean Winchester the man he was even at seventeen.

"Hey! Tell that to the cheerleaders at school, they think I'm plenty cute enough." Dean grinned and when Sam's hand slipped back in to his, his own curled around the smaller one and he winked down at Sammy.

"Hey, maybe if you suck up real good, he'll get us pizza, been awhile since we did that." Money had been strapped and most of the time it came down to Dean and Sam getting by with what food they could get so he was glad Bobby came along, he worried some times Sammy didn't get enough to eat.

"You think you're cute enough," Sammy said teasingly. He still didn't know what was going on, but if Bobby and Dean were here, they'd make it okay. They always did. At the mention of pizza he brightened and turned hopeful eyes to Uncle Bobby.

Bobby didn't know what manner of magic had turned the boys so young, but he was grateful for it. At least for a little while, they could just be kids. No obligations save each other. Sometimes, in his heart, he damned John Winchester for what he did to the boys. No one should have ever been raised a Hunter.

"I'll do you one better than that. Pizza, cheeseburgers and the biggest shake you think you can take on. How's that sound, boys? My treat," he said with a smile. Whenever John would bring the boys by, or he'd catch them on a hunt, he would always spirit them away for a night and stuff them full of food or bring an extra coat along. The salvage yard always did fairly well and he would slip Dean what cash he could spare to help take care of his brother.

"I know I am shrimp" Dean grinned all the same as he ruffled Sam's hair again. He would be worried about not recognizing any thing, except that Bobby seemed comfortable here, he really just must need a freakin' nap or some thing.

There were points over the years where Dean would have agreed, Sam even more, but in the end, Dean would step right back in to this role and this life even if he was given the choice he had never had as a kid.

"Cheeseburgers? Oh man, I'm in. C'mon Sammy, bet you can't beat me" Dean let go of his younger brother's hand and dashed off, it was fairly obvious the older boy was running as slow as possible in order to let the younger Winchester get ahead of him, as he shot Bobby a look that said it all with out saying it. The thanks Uncle Bobby, thanks for watching out for us, thanks for giving us a few moments to be kids. Thanks for making sure we get enough to eat and have what cash we can. It showed that loyalty to the older man and that young boy there with him that would be Dean's personality for the rest of his life.

“Hey,” Sammy protested. “’m not a shrimp!” Giggling, he took off after his brother. He knew Dean let him win, but it was fun to pretend that one day he’d be able to catch him on his own.

Bobby caught Dean’s look and gave him a small smile. Whenever John was unable to be the father they needed, Bobby was there to step in and look after them. He would have done anything for those boys, he loved them and it did him good to see them happy, carefree and not weighted down with responsibilites like ending the Apocalypse, or watching your brother fall into hell. Bobby took off his cap and rubbed at his eyes as their laughter echoed down the hall at him. Must be dust or something in the air, making them water like that. Yep. Dust. that’s his story and he’s stickin to it

Sammy sat on one of the benches in the Great Hall, his legs swinging as he chattered happily at Dean while Bobby had plates of food brought over. When he and Dean had eaten their fill – Sammy looked up at his big brother. It had been a very long time since he had seen his brother so happy, or so relaxed. A small frown creased his features. He didn’t want to upset him, but something still felt very off and adults never seemed to talk about that while he was around.

“Dean,” he whispered. “You think Uncle Bobby’ll tell us what’s wrong?”

Dean knew this and even in to adult hood he respected Bobby like a father, it was how he viewed the man. But none of that mattered when that small voice whispered to him, he had tried so hard to just pretend and act like every thing was alright, but Sam always knew, didn't matter, that kid could just tell they were some where that things weren't right.

But he did what he always did in those situations and just cast Sam a glance from the side of his eyes "You ask too many questions, Sammy, just shut it, he'll tell us what we need to know."

But the eyes that fixed on Bobby were much to old for their age, because what they said that despite the good food and the care free moments, Dean Winchester even at seventeen years old, knew that some thing was wrong, things just didn't work like this for him and Sam.

Sammy looked downcast, turning his eyes to his plate. He knew he should be quiet and wait, but it just felt all wrong.

It wasn't hard for Bobby to miss the little exchange between the brothers.
Sam was always too perceptive for such a little kid, and he could never put much past Dean for that matter.

He sighed. "Boys, it's ok. You don't remember this place, but it's safe. There was some kind of spell that misfired, makin both of you a lot younger than you oughta be. I have it on good authority that you'll both be just fine come mornin'."

As soon as Sam made that face Dean felt guilty, ten times more when he heard what Bobby said, so that was it, he hadn't been a young idiot and not protected Sammy, apparently that was a trend that kept going through out his life.

He reached out and ruffled Sam's hair all the same and grinned at Bobby "Shoulda known it was too good to be true, couldn't keep the brat cute for long." He had to admit it made sense, because one thing Dean knew for sure, he had not been seventeen when Sam was six, so if one of their ages was wrong, it made sense both were.

"So what, we're just supposed to live out the blast from the past for a day and then poof, every thing is back to normal?"

The legendary Dean Winchester guilt. Most times, Bobby wasn’t sure if he wanted to hug the boy or smack him upside the head to snap him out of it. “Not everyone gets the chance to be a kid again, son. Go have fun and just be seventeen for a little while, Dean. I can look after your brother and get him to bed.” Bobby glanced down at a young Sam who yawned hugely and blinked at them both with glassy eyes.

Sammy leaned his head against his brother’s arm. “Don’t wanna sleep. I have bad dreams,” he protested in a small voice.

Bobby frowned. A six year old Sam hadn’t been bothered by nightmares, not that he recalled. He wondered if it wasn't the elder Sam who had been having them. “You don’t have to, Sammy,” he assured, even though the kid looked ready to curl up on his brother and conk right out.

Dean thought the same thing as Bobby, because he didn't remember Sam having nightmares, but if he was saying it that had to mean one thing, Sam had been having them and not saying any thing to Dean. As his brother leaned on his arm Dean reached out and brought the smaller boy against his side.

"It's alright, Uncle Bobby, I'll stick with Sammy." The look Dean gave Bobby said it all, if Sam was afraid to sleep then Dean was going to sit like a sentry if he had to, to make sure his brother did. Because all through his life of being a kid, that's what he had done.

Dean dropped his voice so the sleepy Sam couldn't hear "I'll go check the place out once he's out if you want, just not till he's alright."

When Dean put his arm around Sammy, he cuddled closer to his brother. "Don't wanna sleep," he murmured. Sammy clutched at Dean's arm. He didn't want to be scared, he wanted to be brave. But he was so afraid. He couldn't even remember why.

Bobby couldn't have been prouder of Dean in that moment. "All right. C'mon, we'll take him back to my room, let him try and sleep there." He lowered his voice. "You talk to your brother about this in the mornin, Dean. If he's havin nightmares, he can't be hiding that from us."

It didn't take long to collect the half-asleep Sammy and carry him back to Bobby's room in Gryffindor. Almost immediately the young Sam dropped off to a fitful sleep. Bobby said nothing, he simply set up two chairs and found some coffee for them.

Dean took one of the chairs and sat down, glad Bobby didn't try to rush him off, because he wouldn't have went. Not at this age, Sam hadn't been haunted like that, perceptive yes, but Dean Winchester knew one thing, some thing in their future was bothering his brother and if he could find out now, maybe when things were back to normal he could fix it.

When Bobby came back with coffee Dean took his gaze off his fitfully sleeping brother and those young eyes of his brimmed slightly "What happened to him and how do I stop it?" He didn't care what he had to do, if Sam was suffering Dean was going to make it right, he didn't know any of the bitterness that bad choice would lead him to yet, right now all he was, was his little brother's protector, the one thing that he always came back to being no matter how far the path strayed was big brother.

That whispered question was like a gutpunch. Bobby blew out his breath. "Ah God, if I could take it all away from you boys, I would, Dean."

Sammy thrashed in his sleep, making low sounds of distress. The old hunter reached out to soothe the boy. "The two of you wind up saving the entire world, Dean. It wasn't easy on either one of you."

The boy quieted under Bobby's touch, falling back into a fitful sleep. "I don't like that he's hidin this from us. That ain't like Sam," he couldn't keep the worry from his voice. The youngest Winchester was always the one that needed to talk, to get things out in the open. It could be annoying, but it was something he had come to expect.

"When he's himself again, you talk to him. Hell, try and call Cas if you can." Bobby wasn't sure if an angel could travel to Hogwarts, but if anyone would answer Dean's call, it would be Castiel.

And there it was all over again, that Dean Winchester guilt, didn't matter if he heard he saved the world, because if Bobby looked like that and Sam was having nightmares, then that meant some where, some how Dean hadn't protected him the way he should have.

"He knows better than to hide stuff from me, it always gets him hurt, why's he bein' an idiot." It wasn't that Dean didn't trust that Bobby could soothe Sam, it was that he knew he needed to be the one to take care of his brother and that is why the teenager got up from his chair and angled himself in a seated position on the bed, one leg hanging over the edge, the other stretched out before him. He reached out once he was settled and just pulled his little brother to his side, one arm over the smaller Winchester.

"I don't know who Cas is, but I'll make him talk, he ain't gonna hide things from me." This Dean didn't know about him, but one could hope that when the hex was off him Dean would remember so he could make sure Sam was alright.

Bobby sighed and let the younger Dean take over watching his brother. Sammy whimpered until his brother put a protective arm over him before finally falling still.

"You both hide stuff from each other. It's a damned bad habit. Get some rest, Dean. I'll remind you in the morning. We've gotta help your brother."

((we can call it here, if you'd like))

Date: 2010-12-30 04:39 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] i-shot-a-dick.livejournal.com
Dean nodded his head "Bad habit it not, it's what I gotta do Uncle Bobby, we're all we got." Dean laid down beside Sam then and his eyes slid closed. It was safe to say some where in his mind, he would remember this conversation because it was what he had to do to keep Sam safe and that thought in mind Dean fell asleep beside his younger brother.

((And done))
