A mad tea party ((Open RP, River and A hand out food))

Cooking magazines had become something of a hobby to River of late. A had mentioned not too long ago handing out a meal again in the Great Hall, and one of the magazines she'd purloined from the old stacks in the library had yielded a recipe for 'cucumber sandwiches' and entertaining to plan around the eating of said snacks. Since the sandwiches were rather easy to eat, and there were plenty cucumbers available for the using, she noted A to join her in the kitchen.

There, they made scores of cucumber sandwiches with butter, vegetable, and cheese spreads, all to be served with iced mint tea. A sign at the entrance to the Great Hall invited everyone to partake, with the exception of troublemakers and ne'er-do-wells.

A had been delighted when River suggested they prepare a light summery meal for all comers. It was always nice to cook together, especially when so many of the ingredients were fresh from the garden.

"This was a good idea," he said happily, arranging a few stray glasses for the tea. "Thank you for suggesting it. I enjoyed making it with you."

"I thought it would be fun, kind of different." Making the spreads had been the most fun, River thought. She started pouring for the few people who were beginning to filter in. "I like the big meals too, but the variety is entertaining. We get to see all the combinations people make, all the weird stuff they mix together. I love watching that." Let no one say River isn't still on the top five weirdest girls list.

"It was simple, mostly cutting up," he commented. "But very companionable. It was a good thing to make together without getting messy. Although," he grinned slyly, "Getting messy with you is fun, too."

"I bet you do," she giggled a little, nudging him with an elbow. Finishing with the tea, she leaned back against the table. "I thought maybe sometime we could go see the Mother Tree again," she said, smiling a little shyly. "I like her, and I think she likes us."

"Oh," A said softly, the idea making his grin soften into a smile. "Yes, yes, we should. Perhaps with a picnic. Not a cats-picnic, although we should have a cats-picnic soon, or a smoking and silly picnic, but a sort of respectful picnic. There is such a thing, isn't there?" He looked a bit concerned, as if he'd suggested something improper.

Of course, when there's food, there's a Chairman.

"Oh? And what is this?"

"Cucumber sandwiches, spread, and mint tea a'la A and River," she said cheerfully, handing the Chairman a plate. His thoughts were loud today, less the chaotic, frightened loud, more instead occupied with a certain reclusive fire demon. River fought to keep a wry grin from her face at that. "i hope you approve, Kaga-Dono," she added with a little bow.

"I'm sure I will, if you and your paramour made them." Kaga took a bite. Swallowing, he smiled at River. "I do approve."

Her smile grew wider at his approval. "I am glad. You have been well lately." the last she said as if she knew the answer, which, of course, she did. His anxiety had gentled.

Kaga gave River an enigmatic smile. "I have been better, thank you." He picked up the tea to try.

"Oh come on! I promise I won't make much trouble!" Matt complained, he was quite fond of A in a brotherly way, and wanted to eat his food.

"Matt!" A smiled. He hadn't seen very much of his friend since he had returned from his popcorned state. "There is tea, and sandwiches. Will you have some?"

"Oh sure! Of course!" Matt took a sandwich from the plate and begin eating. "How've you been? You see L recently?"

"We haven't spoken much lately," A said, biting his lip. Even though L had apologized, A felt uneasy.

L was still feeling a bit awkward with his new mental framework. It still felt forced upon him. And, he still wasn't quite sure just how to react and act toward anyone now, especially A. He slipped quietly into the Great Hall, hiding in the shadows as much as a relatively clean white tee shirt and pale blue jeans would allow him. He stared at the room, the decor and the food, from under his untamed hair.

A smiled uncertainly when he saw L, and waved. "I am sorry we didn't make sweet things this time, but the sandwiches are very niice."

L blinked. "There are other things to eat than just cake. I do know this. Sometimes." He returned the smile, just as uncertain.

"The sandwiches are cucumber, and very tasty. There is cheese also, and you can sweeten the tea if you like?" Idle pleasantries, but it was a step.

Rat inspected the food spread. It looked good, but still...
"Free food? Riiight" he muttered.

"The vegetables are from my garden and greenhouse," A told him.

"I'm sure they are, but what's to stop someone from doctoring them while you weren't looking?" Rat asked suspiciously. Being turned into a rodent had made him grumpy. It was the feeling of having to pee every few seconds.

"You don't have to have any," A said calmly. "It's just a snack River and I made for anyone who would like some."

Where there's a reception, especially with free food, the Centauri Ambassador will always find his way there. He walked the length of the table, observing the foods that were offered and the various people milling about the Great Hall. Londo paused at the head of the table, giving a warm smile to the young woman who seemed to be hosting the reception.

"Quite a remarkable reception, my dear lady." He gave a courtly little bow, "Londo Mollari of the Centauri Republic, at your service. You are the one responsible for such a feast?"

River returned a near-perfect curtsy. "River Tam, at yours," she replied adopting the kind of mannerisms Lando's thoughts told her were appropriate. "And I am responsible only in part. A is my partner-in-crime." She smiled a little at that, gesturing to her boyfriend. "We like to cook together, and cooking to share is rather gratifying."

Young love. Londo could see it in the looks that passed between the young woman and the young man nearby. He smiled wistfully. The trials of politically engineered marriages may have turned him cynical, but he remembered what it was like to be young, and in love.

"And we are most fortunate that you have decided to share it with us, my dear lady. Tell me, what are these?" He inquired, gesturing at the small sandwiches. He had attempted to learn as much as he could about human food during his time on Earth, but did not recognize everything on the tables.
