A mad tea party ((Open RP, River and A hand out food))

Cooking magazines had become something of a hobby to River of late. A had mentioned not too long ago handing out a meal again in the Great Hall, and one of the magazines she'd purloined from the old stacks in the library had yielded a recipe for 'cucumber sandwiches' and entertaining to plan around the eating of said snacks. Since the sandwiches were rather easy to eat, and there were plenty cucumbers available for the using, she noted A to join her in the kitchen.

There, they made scores of cucumber sandwiches with butter, vegetable, and cheese spreads, all to be served with iced mint tea. A sign at the entrance to the Great Hall invited everyone to partake, with the exception of troublemakers and ne'er-do-wells.

"We haven't spoken much lately," A said, biting his lip. Even though L had apologized, A felt uneasy.

"Well, hey, he's probably got better news for you this time," Matt said in a knowing voice. "And he likes your food."

"I like cooking for him." Even if this particular repast wasn't geared toward L's tastes.

"And he likes eating your food. And so do I! Actually, remind me later to talk to you about something, I don't want to do it right now in front of all these people." Matt ate some more. "How're the cats?"

A blinked at Matt quizzically, but didn't pursue it. "They are well," he said fondly. "Schrodinger is still outgoing and curious, and Einstein likes to nap. He is very good at napping."

"That's our Einstein! Doing what he does best. Koopa's still busy being active and commanding attention."

"And he is still happy and friendly?" Most dogs, with their tendencies toward rambunctious behavior, intimidated A somewhat, but he knew that Koopa was good-natured and well-meaning.

"Oh yes. Helpful too. He calmed down when he saw I was nervous about something."

That made A smile gently. "Schrodinger and Einstein are like that. They understand my moods. Koopa wants you to be happy."

"He does, he really does." Matt picked up some tea and took a swig. "We are all one big happy family. Except for Mello."

"Mello? I like Mello. He thinks it is important for me to be able to protect myself."

"I know that. Mello really does have everyone's best interests at heart. He just needs to smile more, really. And not just to Near."

"Then he would be difficult to recognize," A pointed out.

"More's the better. Then less people would bother with him and Karasu won't come after him."

"Karasu..." A frowned and looked away. "We need to do something about him."

Preferably something involving dismemberment.

Matt sighed and rubbed his face. "I know. If we don't do something soon, Karasu will just try to rape or murder someone again. If there was only a way to induce popping."

"He needs to stop. Someone needs to stop him so he can't do anything ever again."

"According to Mello, Kurama attacked Karasu over Kaga's attack, and Karasu's currently incapacitated, that'll buy us some time, but not much." Matt took another sip of tea. "We might just have to keep Karasu incapacitated, if we can figure out where he's hiding."

A's grin was just a little sinister. "Keeping him incapacitated would be good. So, so he can't do anything."

Matt gave a sinister chuckle. "Now don't go running after him right now. Don't want you trying to take him on by yourself. Besides, who would help River serve this delicious food?"

"I know I'm not supposed to." He frowned a little. "Not supposed to make trouble. I'm supposed to, supposed to think first. But I can still want to."

"Of course you can. We all want him gone. We just...we can't until we know the situation will be resolved in the best way possible. And any of us getting hurt-any more hurt, I should say-isn't in the best way possible."

"I know," he said wistfully. "But I still want to."
