A mad tea party ((Open RP, River and A hand out food))

Cooking magazines had become something of a hobby to River of late. A had mentioned not too long ago handing out a meal again in the Great Hall, and one of the magazines she'd purloined from the old stacks in the library had yielded a recipe for 'cucumber sandwiches' and entertaining to plan around the eating of said snacks. Since the sandwiches were rather easy to eat, and there were plenty cucumbers available for the using, she noted A to join her in the kitchen.

There, they made scores of cucumber sandwiches with butter, vegetable, and cheese spreads, all to be served with iced mint tea. A sign at the entrance to the Great Hall invited everyone to partake, with the exception of troublemakers and ne'er-do-wells.

L smiled, his thumb going to the corner of his mouth again. "It is," he nodded in agreement.

"You make each other smile," A said fondly. "I, I, I'm glad. Glad that you will be taking care of each other."

"So, how are you?" L asked, a little uncomfortable with the conversation even if it did make him very happy.

"I, I'm well." He smiled a little shyly. "I have been spending time with River."

L nodded. "I am glad things are continuing to go well with her."

"She's wonderful," he said, with a silly besotted gleam in his eye. "Smart and kind and pretty and wonderful."

L nodded. "Have you obtained condoms?" he asked bluntly.

A stared at him, shocked. "What?"

L shoved his hands into his pockets. "It is the normal course of events," he said. "And, it is far better to take precautions than have consequences to think about. Do you have condoms?"

"We, oh, oh, we, we haven't done that," A protested, blushing. "We don't, we, we don't need those yet." He didn't expect to for some time.

L nodded solemnly. "It is better to have them before you need them. If you wish, we can go get some from the villiage."

A chewed his lip nervously. "I don't, I, I don't think we'll need them soon." He and River were pacing themselves.

A slight frown touched L's lips. He looked at the glass of tea. "I'll drink that if you agree to go," he said, somewhat reluctantly.

Well, that was fair enough, A supposed, although he was still pink with embarassment. He held out the unsweetened mint tea. "Yes, all, all right," he said softly. "I'll go with you to... get those things."

L took the glass with trepidation. He looked at A, but didn't expect to find any quarter there. If things were progressing, then A needed to be prepared and prepared involved purchase of certain items that it seemed A was unwilling to actually get. Steeling himself, L raised the glass. It smelled good, almost like candy (though, candy without sugar? Yes, L could smell sugar). He took a sip. It was...like bitter peppermints.

"I will make you special, very sweet cakes to eat after if you will drink that regularly," A teased. He didn't expect L to take him up on it; was a special sweet worth an unsweetened beverage?

L had to force himself to swallow and not spit out the liquid. It was vile. "I would prefer," he choked out when his mouth was clear, "sweetened tea." He wiped his hand over his mouth, trying to clear the taste.

It was hard not to laugh at L's dismayed expression. "I suppose it will just be regular cakes when I decide to make them," A said airily. Of course, that was fairly often, and he always sent L special treats.

L pressed his thumb to the corner of his mouth. "Then, I suppose I will have to suffer with those." He bowed, a bobbing of his head mostly. "I will see you later. Is there a time that's good for you to go shopping?" He figured they would need to go to the Muggle village to get what A needed. That, and thoughts of ways of removing the taste of the tea from his mouth involving Matt seemed rather appealing.

He bit his lip, and glanced around the small group of people gathering in the hall. "After the food is given out, maybe?"

He could soothe his frazzled nerves after, in River's company. Perhaps they would inch slowly toward the time when such things were needed.

L nodded. "That will be good." He bobbed again and headed toward his and Matt's room, hoping his fiancè was there. He waved absently over his shoulder.
