First, the owl:

Rika,

Fizgig is starting to wake up. I think you should come here.

Soichiro Yagami.

Okay, now to get Matsuda.

Soichiro checked, okay, Yukiko is wearing her new red collar while sprawling on the bed like she owned it. He looked down at the blue collar in his hand.

Excellent.

He walked over to Matsuda's door and knocked.

Matsuda grinned, even more amused by Soichiro using his first name, as well. Fizgig, not to be left out of attention for any span of time, jumped back into Matsuda's lap, growling and gnawing on his shirtsleeve. Matsu was more than happy to let her.

"I'm sorry, Miss Rika," he said, very belatedly remembering his manners. "I didn't mean to forget you. Are you here to look for a puppy too, or just visiting?"

"It is alright, you came here to get Fizgig after all," she said while crouched down to pet Yukiko, but also looking at Matsuda. "I am not here for a puppy, I came over to play a card game."

"What, me?" Matsuda pointed at himself, a little dumbfounded. Not that he didn't mind Soichiro telling pretty girls about him, but then, he had the probably not incorrect feeling that not all of it was praise.

"Of course it is more fun to play with three people instead of two, and Matsuda is a good friend of Soichiro."

A good friend of Soichiro, who was made into a part of a joke.

Matuda watched, perfectly content to let Fizgig distract him from his slight embarrassment by being cute and roly-poly in his lap. "Urm, what game are we playing?"

Rika shuffles the deck of cards Soichiro tossed to her, but it would appear that she is just doing it to give her hands something to do.

"I have my favorites, but since this is supposed to be a celebration for Fizgig I think it would be best if you came up with the game we should play, Matsuda."

"What about old maid or poker?" Both of them were easy enough, and with poker they could bet with something other than money, if they wanted.

"Those are good choices," old maid is close to what Rika normally plays so she smiles, remembering what her friends and she put Keiichi through. For a smart kid it always took him so long in each new world to figure out the trick used. "Perhaps we should make this more interesting and have something at risk? My friends back home played that the loser had to do something the winner told them to do."

Matsuda came very close to mentioning that he and the rest of the Kira task force had pretty much played by those exact rules (although the bets were usually over who paid lunch and where they ate) but realized that it probably wouldn't be the best idea to tell Soichiro that they'd been goofing off so much. "I can agree to those terms," he smiled, but then he was okay with anything Rika suggested because, again: Pretty girl.

"You have nothing to fear as long as you make sure that you do not lose," she smirks at Soichiro and stops shuffling the cards.

"Famous last words," Matsu murmured, picking up his cards. Fizgig, not to be left out, sat up in his lap and looked too, interested for about five seconds before she flopped over his legs for a nap.

They aren't as excitable as her friends, but of course there would be a difference between older men and a group of kids. Also neither Soichiro nor Matsuda really know what they're getting themselves into.

"I'll start first," she says after everyone has their cards dealt out and are ready. Rika takes a card from Soichiro's hand that she knows doesn't match any of hers, but that is just to make sure that they don't realize their fate is already sealed.

May it be noted that, during those on-company-time card games, he often lost. But that didn't stop him from being optimistic. He took a card from Rika's hand and grinned when he got a match.

"So, like, what are the boundaries of the loser's punishments? Just a little slave labor? Making lunch? Stuff like that?"

"Yes, we were also fond of making each other wear silly costumes. We also didn't play at anyone's house, so all of us had to walk home trough the village where anyone could see us before we could remove anything."

Rika decides to take matching cards if she can for a few rounds before taking a different one on again. It doesn't matter too much though, as long as she doesn't pick up the unmatched queen.

"Depending on the costumes," Matsuda said, casting a sly look at Soichiro, "this could be very interesting." He took a card, but it didn't match anything.

Rika smirks, "We had all sorts of costumes like nurses and maids or cat cosplay and a tutu. It was really fun to play a game seriously so that we wouldn't have to walk home in something embarrassing."

A lot of motivation came from wanting to dress someone up too.
