Open RP: Great Hall: It's Alive!

The circles under his eyes are more pronounced than usual today. L slips into the Great Hall, to get himself a pot of tea. Once it arrives, he sits and pauses, to wait for it to steep. It needs to be stronger than this.

He's been pushing himself on a case the past few days. It's resolved now, but it was the first real challenge he's had since moving here, so he may have dropped off the face of the earth a little. Time to emerge and make sure everyone is still alive and well.

As soon as the tea is finished steeping, that is.

"He's sort of... one of Kira's men. In an obsessive angry psycho sort of way. Did Kira's killing for him, all that sort of thing." Matt shrugs. "Anyway. He turned up here this morning."

"And you fought him?"

That's the only reasonable explanation L can think of.

"Sort of? I mean, he could probably have broken my neck or something, if I'd... But I did argue with him."

"Broken your neck? I hope not." L slips an arm around Matt's waist.

"He was pretty strong, in any case. I might get some ice or something when you're asleep."

Matt turns his head to kiss L's - well, he'd go for temple but ends up kissing his cheek, instead.

"He's got shinigami eyes, too. Watch out for him."

"I hate the idea. Hadn't we just gotten rid of all the complications?"

L draws a circle with his hand on Matt's back.

"Where are you hurt?"

"Back of the head, shoulders... he just shoved me into a wall, nothing epic." A small, wry smile. "And yeah, we had. Guess that'd make things boring..."

"Hopefully this one, if he's stupid enough to follow Kira, won't pose much of a challenge."

L doesn't anticipate much trouble.

"Fingers crossed. I mean, it's not like he can use his Note or anything... I was sort of enjoying not getting threatened for a while, though."

Maybe he just has one of those faces?

"Just avoid him."

L contemplates the situation.

"Does he know about us?"

"Us as in the lot of us, or us as in you and me?"

"You and me. I mean, theoretically, if I wanted to toy with him a little, it would be important to know what he knew."

Matt laughs a little, at that.

"He doesn't. He knows I'm connected to Mello and Near - I mean, he probably saw the kidnapping on TV, now I think of it - but... I didn't mention anything like that."

"And he wouldn't know my face."

This might be interesting.

"We'll see."

"He'll be able to see your name, though."

They turn up a set of stairs.

"Maybe you should start wearing a mask."

"I don't know what he looks like, I won't be able to avoid him. My best chance is to identify him, introduce myself as Lawliet, and hope he doesn't connect me with L."

"Light still doesn't know your name, does he? I know Mikami's already spoken with him."

Worrying Matt is worrying.

"I just hope we don't get even more Kira-worshippers."

"Unless B told him."

L doesn't believe so. Admittedly, he can't quite think right now.

"I agree with that sentiment."

"Fuck. That would be..."

Matt shakes his head. He doesn't want to think of what would happen if Mikami and B got together.

"At least B's sort of... blatant about being a serial killer? I don't think Mikami'd be the type to compromise and listen to someone like that."

"He did trick Naomi into investigating with him. Don't underestimate his ability to appear normal."

L sighs.

"... fuck."

Time for cigarettes, Matt thinks. It's a little difficult to get the packet out, since he's still carrying the strawberries and shortcake, but Matt is an expert at this sort of thing by now.

"I could try to keep an eye on him. I mean... he knows who I am, and I'm already dead. So it's not like I've got anything to lose."

"No. I don't want you near anything that'll get you hurt. We'll stay out of their way, and consider surveillance if they make any hostile movement. I won't indulge myself with him."

Matt is too important to place in that kind of harm's way.

"I'd totally be really sneaky about it."

But it's probably for the best. He's good at surveillance when it's interesting, which it frequently isn't, and explaining to an enraged Kira-worshipper why he's following him would be sort of interesting.

"But... yeah. Hopefully it won't be an issue at all."

Especially since he's already been shoved against a wall.

"I'll restrict myself to just Light."

"Keeping an eye on him?"

Understandable, Matt guesses, but... urgh.
