Open RP: Great Hall: It's Alive!

The circles under his eyes are more pronounced than usual today. L slips into the Great Hall, to get himself a pot of tea. Once it arrives, he sits and pauses, to wait for it to steep. It needs to be stronger than this.

He's been pushing himself on a case the past few days. It's resolved now, but it was the first real challenge he's had since moving here, so he may have dropped off the face of the earth a little. Time to emerge and make sure everyone is still alive and well.

As soon as the tea is finished steeping, that is.

"He did trick Naomi into investigating with him. Don't underestimate his ability to appear normal."

L sighs.

Time for cigarettes, Matt thinks. It's a little difficult to get the packet out, since he's still carrying the strawberries and shortcake, but Matt is an expert at this sort of thing by now.

"I could try to keep an eye on him. I mean... he knows who I am, and I'm already dead. So it's not like I've got anything to lose."

"No. I don't want you near anything that'll get you hurt. We'll stay out of their way, and consider surveillance if they make any hostile movement. I won't indulge myself with him."

Matt is too important to place in that kind of harm's way.

"I'd totally be really sneaky about it."

But it's probably for the best. He's good at surveillance when it's interesting, which it frequently isn't, and explaining to an enraged Kira-worshipper why he's following him would be sort of interesting.

"But... yeah. Hopefully it won't be an issue at all."

Especially since he's already been shoved against a wall.

"I'll restrict myself to just Light."

"Keeping an eye on him?"

Understandable, Matt guesses, but... urgh.

"Someone needs to. He has to be kept on our side."

Otherwise, they're in trouble.

"He's 'on our side'?"

Matt looks the dictionary definition of 'epically unconvinced'.

"Until his memories come back, we have him."

L nods, seriously.

"How long d'you think that'll last? Especially with Mikami around... obviously there's something in this guy that makes him want to be a ridiculous little godling, and now he's got his first disciple back."

"I'm going to try to coax him into taking an unbreakable vow to undergo the memory charm before he leaves. So that even when he regains them, he won't have this as ammunition back in our world."

It's obviously a slow process; L hasn't seen him in a while.

Matt nods, slowly.

"That would work. And if he doesn't agree to it-" he shrugs. "I've done one Unforgivable, I could do another."

"Matt, this is a fly I think I need to catch with honey."

As effective as what they did with B was.

"I just..." Matt shrugs helplessly. "I know. I mean - I get it, but I don't understand why."

He doesn't say But he kills you, which is probably for the best.

"He's too dangerous to anger. I don't know the game well enough to go in swinging yet."

Leaning closer while they walk.

"We have the time."

Matt takes a deep breath.

"Alright. I trust you." And he does. "But if you need me to do anything..."

"You'll be the first person I come to."

He nods, seriously.

"Just - stay safe. I know Light's kind of... but this Mikami guy, he's seriously psycho. You should have heard some of the shit he was coming out with."

Their problems will still be there in the morning.

"Yeah. Good plan."

He kisses L on the cheek again as they climb the last set of stairs. Almost there.

"We could talk more about how we're going to be sharing the same room from now on." A much nicer topic!

"I'm just worried I'll never want to leave it."

He can see staying holed up with Matt for ages.

"Well, we'll probably want to use the prefects' bathroom sometimes. But apart from that..."

Matt would be totally cool with being stuck in a room with L for extended periods of time. After all, he'll have his consoles, too.

But other than that... L yawns, while he considers the idea, tired and pleased.

Matt holds open the door to the common room for L, and tries to keep himself half a pace or so ahead of L as they make their way towards his (their?) room, so he can hold that one too.

L follows, and lets him do all that sort of work, because he seems to want to.

"Are you working on anything over the next few days?"
