The owl is carrying a parcel with a large black bow around, containing the bones of Victor's dog Scraps. When he opens it, he should see those, a red collar with the dog's name on it, and a note, written in Emily's neat, feminine handwriting. And then Scraps will assemble himself, and quite probably be very happy to have found his master again.
Darling Dear Victor,
I found him, just like I said I would, and he was quite keen on seeing you so I brought him back here. It was no trouble at all, so please do not worry about me.
Love Yours Sincerely, Emily.

... Oh dear. His tail just knocked over the ink bottle. Obviously the trip back hasn't tired his enthusiasm.
Thank you again,
Sincerely, Victor
The bottom of Victor's return letter is covered in inky, skeletal pawprints.
