Identical owls sent to Stephen Maturin, Samuel Vimes, John Adams, Emma Woodhouse, and DEATH:
I'm undertaking a rather dangerous magical experiment, which may result in my disappearing briefly. Please don't worry about me; everything should be all right.
--Susan
However, it appears that everything was not all right; whatever the experiment was, Susan Sto Helit is now gone, and there's another kernel of popcorn in the Popcorn Room, and another name on the plaque. A total of four more kernels and four more names total, actually; Lord Peter Wimsey, Fillerbunny, and Ophelia are also gone, leaving behind some very nice 1930s men's clothes, a bereft aardvark, and a hell of a lot of flowers.
Of Susan, in addition to her personal effects, there remains only a package for Emma Woodhouse (containing something for John Adams), a letter to Jonathan Teatime, a letter to Stephen Maturin, and some papers which are useful only insofar as they suggest research into magical travel between worlds, and the traceability of such travel. Exactly what she may have hoped to accomplish with this is entirely unclear; also unknown is why and how her botch (at least, one assumes it was a botch on her part) affected Wimsey, Fillerbunny, and Ophelia.
It's worth noting, though, that Susan's infamous fireplace poker is gone as well.
