A strange owl from a florist in Hogsmeade, it drops something for Lily: Two rosebuds. One black. One white. Tied with a thin black ribbon. The card reads:
G'luck and all the best in the future, Lils.
- James

- James

But could he get some more? I think his sock drawer is organized.

Because Harry's grandmum would have wanted you to have these.
She always talked about what she'd do when I brought a decent girl home.
- James Potter
A strange owl from a florist in Hogsmeade, it drops something for Harry: Two full budding roses. One red, one white, tied with twine. The card reads:
Your grandmum would have had you memorizing all their meanings if she was alive.
Let's pretend I'm nicer. You only have to figure this combination out.

*Owl to James, warded to douse any unintended readers with a heavy blast of rose-scented perfume*
Date: 2006-08-14 08:59 am (UTC)Thankfully, the house-elves have kept me fed well enough that I wasn't at all tempted to eat the flower you had delivered to me earlier today. I must admit to having sampled a small notch of a petal, though - but only because you suggested it, you berk. Next time tell me I should eat it. That way I won't be tempted into breaking the rules and having a sample. You know how I am with rules.
Did you get to see it when you chose it? It looks like a sunset. Reminds me of being outside during the still part of the evening. It's my favourite part of the day, did you know that? Been that way ever since I was able to go outside again after - you know...being away for so long.
Don't the different colours have different meanings? Your mum was always trying to make me remember them in case I wanted to buy a bird flowers. So what's this one mean?

A yellow rose is friendship, right? Thank you - it's lovely, and goes well with my decor.
estrogenically,

Return owl, heavily warded
Date: 2006-08-14 06:57 pm (UTC)Thank you. You know I wish you the same, love.

Pony to James Potter, heavily warded
Date: 2006-08-14 11:16 pm (UTC)Thanks for the gift. The Baron here just loved it. Next time could you skip the thorns, though? I think they gave him some indigestion.
Look, in all seriousness, we can talk whenever you want. You don't really need to threaten me and, for the record? Probably not the best idea to remind me that you're an angry teenager right off the bat. I'm willing to be straight with you.

*owl, warded to spark*
Date: 2006-08-14 11:25 pm (UTC)I'm not angry. I'm protective.

Re: *owl, warded to spark*
Date: 2006-08-14 11:27 pm (UTC)Yeah, and you should be. I just meant that the whole "watch your back" black rose thing was just a little over the top.

Re: *owl, warded to spark*
Date: 2006-08-14 11:32 pm (UTC)We're not mates. The name's Potter. Even if you are trying to pull that I should respect my elders; You're dating the mother of my son. It doesn't work.
And the rose was formal declaration.
-Potter
Re: *owl, warded to spark*
Date: 2006-08-14 11:35 pm (UTC)Yeah, okay. I was trying to be friendly, which is not really something I extend to many people. Great to know it worked!
Formal declaration of *what*? If you say a duel, I'm out. Seriously.
-Cox
Re: *owl, warded to spark*
Date: 2006-08-14 11:42 pm (UTC)Only mates call each other by first names or pet names. Lily says you're not a cad out just to get your end away. Until I find out different, there's no need to try and be friendly. Just don't be scum.
If you hurt Lily, we won't have a duel. She should be able to take care of herself. If you endanger my son, then I've already given you fair warning. I won't need to declare again.
-Potter
Re: *owl, warded to spark*
Date: 2006-08-14 11:51 pm (UTC)Oh, for God's sake, will you get over yourself? I respect your situation, here, I do, and believe me when I say I am not out to hurt Lily, or your kid, who I actually haven't even met yet. I like her, a lot, and I'm trying to be a decent guy here, so unless there's something else going on, that should be pretty much all you need to know, right?
Cool off, Don Quixote, or go ask Doc Maturin for lessons on how to do this right.
-Cox
Re: *owl, warded to spark*
Date: 2006-08-14 11:59 pm (UTC)Professor Maturin is not familiar with wizarding customs. If you want to discuss a formal duel, I refer you to my second, Sirius Black.
-Potter
Re: *owl, warded to spark*
Date: 2006-08-15 12:18 am (UTC)What the hell? No.
-Cox
Re: *owl, warded to spark*
Date: 2006-08-15 12:34 am (UTC)If Maturin is your second, Sirius Black is mine. Or do you have another second for this duel you've suggested? Lily'll be pissed, though. She doesn't like fighting. Least not the Lily I knew.
-Potter
Re: *owl, warded to spark*
Date: 2006-08-15 12:40 am (UTC)How many times, exactly, do I have to say "no" before this makes sense to you?
No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no
I could go all night, seriously.
LOOK. My point was, and, okay, it might have been badly made, I'm on your side. REALLY. So there's really no need to threaten, attack, assault, "warn," or... whatever it is you thought you were doing. I am not going to hurt Lily. We had that talk already. Or your kid.
Now stop being a little jerk and lighten up.
-Cox
Re: *owl, warded to spark*
Date: 2006-08-15 12:57 am (UTC)What are you saying no about?
Potters don't lighten up about family.
-Potter
Re: *owl, warded to spark*
Date: 2006-08-15 01:02 am (UTC)We're not having a duel. We're not having anything. I'm done, I'm going to go feed my pony something that won't actually kill him, and then I'm probably going to get some dinner with Lily, and you're going to go back to pretending to be all badass and tough. And, tell you what, we can even go ahead and forget this whole thing except for the part where I, for once, tried to be nice, and you acted like the concerned ex.
-Cox
Re: *owl, warded to spark*
Date: 2006-08-15 03:12 am (UTC)If that was you trying to be nice, let me know when you start being a real nasty son of a bitch. An official owl would be nice. I could frame it and reference the day the difference was supposed to happen.
Get her something nice. She likes blue.
We're done.
-Potter
Re: *owl, warded to spark*
Date: 2006-08-15 03:52 am (UTC)Oh, trust me, I'll definitely let you know.
That said, thanks for the tip.

Hedwig returns with an orange rose for James
Date: 2006-08-15 03:38 am (UTC)Thanks! Actually, you can thank Neville, he gave me the book that had the list in it.
Harry
*returned by school owl, warded, itching powder for nosy buggers*
Date: 2006-08-15 03:42 am (UTC)Lovely owl. Definitely not a school one. Now you'll have me thinking of getting one of my own. And my thanks to Neville, whomever friend of yours he is.
I take it you're feeling fascinated by tales of your grandmum. If so, find me sometime and we can have a chat about all the lovely things she'd have made you do. And how we'd have fought over who got to lick the spoon after bikkie making.
Hedwig again.
Date: 2006-08-17 02:48 am (UTC)I'd like to hear about your Mum some time. I hardly know anything about my grandparents.

Date: 2006-08-17 12:14 am (UTC)What a lovely gift! The flowers are beautiful, and I'm glad you think Harry's grandmum would have thought I'm decent. I'm also really glad Harry's getting to know you, even if the situation is a bit strange.
Love,
