Wandering away for the evening from the suite, Yuki made her way out to the grounds. Rather than her usual haunts, she decided to walk in the direction of the Forbidden Forest. Forbidden, of course, being absolutely no warning to her whatsoever. Perhaps there would be fun to be found as right now, she was feeling distinctly not fun - and it showed on the lack of smile on her normally-grinning face.

Charlie had spent the last few weeks in Manchester. Or, well, just outside manchester. By which he meant Glasgow. But he'd definitely been thinking of going back to Manchester. Admittedly he'd chickened out of it, but it was the thought that counted, right?

He was making his way back to Hogwarts when he spotted a little girl out near the woods - hard not to think of it as a jungle. He half-ran over to her. "Hey! Hey, kid, um - you might not wanna go in there." He rubbed the back of his head absently. "Monsters and stuff, y'know?"

Shit. "Um... I dunno. I've never been in that one. But the jungle-type thing I used to live in had giant mutant polar bears and boars and, I dunno, moths and things in it." And something else. "Well... the moths were alright, obviously." He looked down at her. Well - she looked a little more cheerful, at least. He grinned. "Hey, what about we go to the lake? There's a giant squid in there."

Squids can't chase after you, after all.

"Oh, hey, hey, don't cry!" Charlie moved down onto one knee so he could look at her properly. One hand went to his pockets before he remembered that, well, there was only really one thing he had in there, and... well.

"Why'd they make you sad? I mean, they're only rocks and water and stuff, y'know? Big girl like you, I bet you could well take them on if you had to." He gave her shoulder a little mock-punch and grinned (somewhat anxiously) at her.

"Right." Charlie wasn't really able to make all of that out, but he got the gist of it. "But... I mean, I bet if we went to the lake and did something fun then the next time you went there you'd feel less sad about it." He rubbed the back of his head, before adjusting the small bandages on the fingers of his left hand. Today they spelt "FATE", which was pretty much his default.

The comment about weapons (which he didn't take at all seriously, of course) made him think. "Oh, hey, and you could always throw rocks at the water or something. And tell it off for making you feel sad." It didn't really matter that wasn't why she was sad, did it? Just as long as she felt better... he hated seeing little kids sad.

"Charlie Pace, at your service," he replied, grinning a little easier now. "I'm very pleased to meet you, Mistress Yuki. And, oh -" he glanced at his fingers "- nothing really. It's just... d'you ever write on your hands? I used to do that when I was younger. Me and my brother. But our mum would give us hell for it, so I started putting plasters on my fingers and drawing on them instead... just kinda kept it up, I suppose. 'S how we named our band." Charlie stretched out his hand for Yuki to inspect, and peeled away the top layer of the first, revealing a "H" where the "F" currently was.

"Carved things...?" Charlie peered at her. "Uhh. Well, I don't do that. It's less sore, for one thing. And if you decide you want something different you can just change them."

At Yuki's curiosity, Charlie hummed a few bars of You All Everybody. "You never heard that song? Actually, hey, you probably weren't even born when it first came out..." MAN, that's a weird thought. Seven years. "My band's called DriveShaft. We're sort of... like the mutant child of the Police and the Pixes. Which probably means nothing to you," he added with another grin. "And, um... I think the last couple have said fate, hate, date... heh. I guess I got lazy. It's easier to just change the first letter."
