First off, this is my new owl, Text. You'll notice that he hasn't tried to kill or even lightly maim you yet? That would be because he is not insane. Even if he does shriek at the top of his lungs for no apparent reason when he flies back in the window after his night out. At 4:30 am. Every night. I don't know, seeing me has that effect on some people, though.

Anyway, the main thing is that I've been tagged to do a little damsel-in-distress rescuing tomorrow night, and the damsel and I were wondering if you'd like to get a drink afterwards. I don't know if you've recovered yet from that bender I dragged you on the other night, but you could probably get away with soda pop or the perpetual tea - she and I will probably be needing something stronger, but whatever. She says she hasn't met you before, but your name's come up with a couple of people; she's Agent Cooper's old ex-ghost friend Laura Palmer. What do you say? Got space on your dayplanner?

You say insane, I say "has personality". I'm completely wrong, but I can take that. I understand how that might be annoying, as you are one of those strange people who manage to get to bed before 6:00 am. I call you Day-Walkers.

I've lived on a Hellmouth for too long, but are we talking about interrupting a really boring date damsel-in-distress rescuing, or something involving a crossbow and a shuriken damsel-in-distress rescuing? Either way, is she wearing a cone-hat?

I say let's drink. Plans... They were never a problem for me.

I've never met anyone who managed to be delusional and self-aware at the same time, outside of 1984. (Shit, that's one of those works of fiction we really shouldn't mention, isn't it? Although I think Big Brother would have his work cut out for him around here.) Well, the fact that I've just fallen asleep at that hour does not help me be cheerful about it. He always seems to be in a good mood, though.

Hellmouth? Okay. Well, honestly, it's kind of both. Though hopefully there won't be actually swordplay involved because, you know, I'd prefer not to die. Basically, scary guy who may want to kill her or at least run weird metaphysical experiments on her has asked her to take a walk by the lake; circs meant she kind of couldn't say no, and she didn't know all the details at that point, but now she really doesn't want to be alone with him. So I'm going to pop up from behind a tree and be annoyingly undetachable till he goes. I could ask Laura about the cone hat, but unless I've got a really bad sense of her personal style, I'm guessing no.

I think mentioning Big Brother to a survivor of such a reality series is a bit insensitive. But I think that makes you cool. Well, he's either a happy-go-lucky critter or a sadistic monster. Or both. That happens more often than you'd think.

Need help with that? I think you have any swordplay or attempted homicide covered, but metaphysical experiments? Considering the flexible nature of Hogwarts's reality, it could only end in tears, pain, and implosion.

Hiding in bushes is always fun. We could be squirrels.

But if you want to handle the heroism solo, 8 is fine. And also a classic.

Sure. The more the merrier, or at least the more annoying for Gin. I don't know what the deal is exactly with the metaphysics - he's one of those Japanese death-spirit people, and apparently he's the one that makes the others really nervous. I hear from Susan that he tried to invite her on a nice little "trip," and he's been chatting up some of the other post-dead girls on campus. You can imagine how happy that makes me.

If you want to get involved in this crap, they're supposed to be meeting at the lake around sunset tomorrow, so I'll be sauntering down about that time. You can join the accidently-dropped-by routine if you like - it might be good to have two of us running interference.

Shinigami can be tricky, but they don't rate an "Oh dear Lord" on the Giles scale. But the Japanese death-spirits must be offended by the amount of people who defy their work here.

I'm guessing you're being sarcastic about your happiness? It can be hard to tell on parchment.

I might be more helpful keeping out of sight with a tranq on hand. We don't want the entire event overwhelmed by my personality.

And again I say, "Okay..." to the first sentence. I guess it's good they're not an "Oh dear Lord." And yeah, must be a bit confusing for them...although the two Deaths we have here seem to be taking it in stride. I guess if you're Death, you've really seen everything.

Sarcastic, yes. This is why context is important for reading comprehension. Logan has a post-dead girlfriend; creepy shinigami guy is hassling post-dead girls; Logan does not want friend to be hassled; Logan is being sarcastic when he talks about being made happy by that prospect. See? Kind of too bad I never got around to taking the SATs, isn't it?

However you want to play it. I don't know that tranqs would work too well...unless it was on me, if I got out of hand...but you could always step in with your personality if necessary. Just got another letter from Laura suggesting that you might be "going out to check on the animals" or something at that hour, which seems reasonable. Anyway. See you at some point.
