A guy with the most fabulous mullet has just appeared in the Sorting Room. He doesn't seem at all surprised to be there.

Some things, one simply could not predict. The existence of a magic school, for one. Talking hats. Homicidal wraiths who possessed you and made you kill a reasonably good friend.

Having encountered the school, however, Trilby was quickly learning that the old rules he had relied upon no longer applied. Things happened that he couldn't plan for. He would note them, learn from them, and be ready the next time. In the meantime, he was hunting down a thief. And not just any thief, either. A thief who apparently had the magical ability to become Spider-Man. Or Spider-Girl, based on what he could see as she fled with her prize.

Stealing from a thief had a certain amusing irony, but he wouldn't be Trily if he let the girl get away with it. He was going to find her and steal his suitcase back, whatever condition it was in. It was matter of professional pride. It would be a lot easier if he knew who she was, but a young woman who climbed around the ceiling in black spandex couldn't be that inconspicuous.
