Behind a few uneven stacks of books piled across a wide desk, Nick presses the cap of his pen to his lips, reading from yet another tome open before him. The library at Hogwarts has proven an interesting source of information, even if knowledge of the "non-magickal" world seemed to be scattered at best. Based on the slightly-warped version of history the books presented, at least based on his own limited knowledge, he took any knowledge imparted about the past fifteen or so years with a grain of salt (or a whole lot of grains, actually), but there was still a lot here to take in. Getting past the change in years had taken a while, but once one accepted that it really was 2007, one could get a lot further.

Then there was the magic. If these books were to be believed, there was a lot more than basic history that he had reason to learn. It was a mix of tantalizing, amazing, incoherent, and just plain ridiculous, though. Marking his place, he pushes the book away and stands, gathering up a few of his book collection to return to the shelves. He'd not had a problem spending so much time here, and hardly ever been bothered, but he had no wish to incur a librarian's wrath for leaving books scattered in his wake.

The Doctor was being emo brooding in the Great Hall with a bottle of Rassilon-only-knows-what (it wasn't Hypervodka, he'd made sure to ask a house elf for the strongest the castle could offer that wasn't that; he'd had quite enough of the taste). And a slice of chocolate cake.

Why, you might ask (about the brooding and the booze, anyway)? Because it has dawned on him that he has spent exactly one full Earth year in this wretched, bloody school.

A year. A year. A year since he'd seen his TARDIS, since he appeared here looking for wherever Rose had gotten herself off to, a full 365.2425 days. That was 52.1775 weeks, 8,765.82 hours, 525,949.2 minutes, 31,556,952 seconds (all give or take a few seconds, he was just averaging). The math went on and on. No space travel, no time travel. He was a whole year older. By Earth standards, at any rate. Might as well be like a birthday. The thought was just a bit disgusting.

He hadn't spent so much time in one place and century since before he left Gallifrey. Such a thought warranted another drink.

It wasn't that he hadn't enjoyed things that went on. He'd met so many people. He'd yelled at a few others. Things had happened to him and his friends that maybe never would've out there even in the big wide universe. Magic. Who woulda thunk it? Still...for all of his wanderings at Hogwarts, all of his exchanges, his classes, his experiences, it just couldn't take the place of his travels. Not that he could fix that (at the moment).

Camilla had warned him about the dog-Latin he would have to endure if he wanted to find any spells here. And yet he's ploughing through several books, snorting incredulously at points, it's true--but still reading them.

It seems his intent is to learn all the spells in the Hogwarts library by rote. He hasn't even got a wand yet. He is, however, making notes with a very expensive-looking pen, pages upon pages of cramped handwriting.

His eyes hurting him a tad, Henry Winter takes off his glasses and idly looks up, to see if anybody else is around.

All over the school, posters have been appearing. Like this one-

And these! )

But finally, it was opening night. Bottles of hard-to-find BPAL, assorted smokeables, exotic liqueurs and fine chocolate... oh, all the addictive sumptuous delights one might crave!

And of course La Fee herself was done up as well )

And she herself took the stage first, to break in the karaoke machine.

Well, friends, you might have noticed you're not seeing me around as much as you used to. Sadly, my computer is attempting to die a slow death. I hope I'll be able to get a new one sometime soon, but until then, it's just too frustrating to try to be a member of comms like this. It's little fun to try to post to a long thread when it takes several minutes for your computer to load it every freakin' time you come back to it.

(Also, I've been writing a ridiculous amount of New Who fanfiction, and it's eating my brain. I like it!)

That said, I'm popcorning all my pups except Dawn and Death. That means the following characters will be up for grabs:

Amanda
Screwtape
Franz Liebkind

I'm holding onto Dawn and Death in the hopes I'll be able to get back to playing at some point, but if there's someone here who'd like to take them over in the interim, let's talk turkey. I hate to think of them just being idle, especially when one of Dawn's best friends has just appeared at Hogwarts.

Hope to be around more soon! (But don't hold your breath.)

As they had arranged, Reilly was waiting at the staircases at noon, watching for a woman in a familiar black lace stole.

He leaned against the heavy stone bannister and twisted his cane in his hands. (Immersion in his reading of 20th-century history and his disquieting meeting with Grant had sidetracked him from his mission of visiting Simon Tam, but his leg was at least stronger now.) This would be an odd meeting, for him; there was no advantage for him in getting to know Lady Stark, save the small one of helping to adjust to life at Hogwarts. Did he even remember how to socialize properly without ulterior motive, after so many years as a spy?

((Should we make this semi-open since they'll be in a public place, or keep it closed?))
