State your full name. Sookie Stackhouse.

1. What is your favorite cheese? Why is it your favorite? What? I guess cheddar, because it tastes good. I don't know! What kind of question is that anyway?

2. Who would you kill first, Barney or Carrottop? I don't really want to kill anyone really.

3. What time is it where you are? 5 pm

4. If you were Albus Dumbledore returned from the dead, which member of the Order of the Phoenix would you sexually harass? How would you harass them? If you are Albus Dumbledore, please answer as if you were Sirius Black. Uh, Creepy much? I wouldn't do that to anyone! It's creepy and wrong. Even if I did why would you want to know the details of something like that anyway?

5. If you are pushing to be in:

A. Slytherin - please state the clever, witty name of the bar in which you bartend, in the dark.
Don't know how witty it is, but I used to work at Merlotte's?

B. Gryffindor – Debate whether Harry should ultimately end up married to Fred or George. Use examples from a variety of world mythologies to bolster your argument. Look, I don't even know these people, who they marry ain't none of my business that's for sure.

C. Ravenclaw – You guys are supposed to be smart. Explain why my desk is inundated with paperwork at all times, even though I’m constantly disposing of it. I don't know! Sounds to me like someone around there is lazy and keeps putting it there for you to do.

D. Hufflepuff – Prove you are not useless. Well, no one is useless. Everyone has some kind of use, they just have to find it and apply themselves.

6. Offer a bribe to the members of this community so that they will not squib you. Items used in bribery do not necessarily have to belong to the person offering the bribe. Do not threaten us rather than offering a bribe. A threat indicates you either don't really want to be here, or don't have enough sense to answer the question properly. The hat will automatically squib you, regardless of other votes, if you do.
I've got cookies and I think a zip lock baggy with some beef jerky, I think I also have a can of pop too.

"Diana Vertue." She frowned thoughtfully, taking Sookie's measure. "So, what's weird about you? In my experience, Hogwarts doesn't grab the average person off the street. People here are either weird or have weirdness thrust upon them beyond getting pulled in. What's your deal?"

"Ah. You're an esper." Diana nodded. "Makes two of us. I used to be a plain old telepath, and then things got weird. Now, I do a lot more." She frowned in annoyance. "Though something about this place makes it harder than it should be. Annoying, but bearable."

"I've never really had a problem with keeping things out, except for the nasty stuff." She tapped her forehead, where small round pale scars were only just visible against the skin, and only if you looked hard. "They were big on control in the esper school. It's the one thing I'm halfway grateful to them for." She smiled nastily. "Not that mental shields are a hindrance to anything sufficiently big and weird if it's really determined to get in, but mine are better than most."

((Feel free to not have Sookie be affected by the psionic bits of Diana's mood--like she said, Hogwarts has affected her powers strangely.))

"Lucky?" Diana's eyes flashed, and the air around her grew denser, congealing like a cold cloak. "I would give anything to have avoided that little piece of hell. They took children and crushed them into tools. Not people--equipment. I'll take being an outcast over being something disposable to be thrown away every time."

Her anger leaked away as suddenly as it had come on, the pressure around her abating. "But you don't come from where I come from, do you. I suppose espers would be rare back at your home?"

"You don't have to worry about it here, but if you ever go back, watch for it," she said, wild-eyed. "When they find out, they'll come in the night, when you can't hear them coming. It starts small and if you let it, eventually your time will end up like mine, with espers in chains. Get in the first hit and hit them hard. Got it? Make sure they know you won't be pushed around."

"Lesson number one: you don't have anyone but yourself. Even in the most clandestine underground resistance, people can be broken, plants, or sleeper agents. Ever battled your own subconscious? It's not pretty." Diana unclenched her fists. The bad old days were over, and there were no signs that they would start up again here. And if they did... well, she was here too, with enough of Jenny Psycho left in her to do some damage.

She forced a smile. "It's pretty good here at Hogwarts, though. Nobody's bothered me yet."

"You can get used to anything if the alternatives are worse." There was no self-pity in her voice, or anything but blunt matter-of-factness.

"Anyway, you should get voted somewhere. Has anyone bothered explaining how things work here to you?"

She snorted. Being alone was easy. It was the learning how to be alone part that was hard.

"Right. There's eight different houses here. Think of them like... team assignments, except as far as I've seen, there's not many team activities to be found." Diana frowned thoughtfully, looking Sookie up and down, and added, "You're probably only interested in four of them. To wit: Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, Slytherin, and Ravenclaw. The theory goes that they're divided by some kind of primary characteristic of a person, like loyalty, bravery, cunning, or intelligence. It doesn't really seem to work out that way in practice. The one who actually gets the last word is a hat. An actual talking hat. I'm crazy, but I can say that with a lot of backing up. So really, if you just like how one house's name sounds more than another, it's as good a method of picking as any." She jutted her chin out, sharp blue eyes never leaving Sookie's face. "So what's it going to be?"

Vote: Ravenclaw

"Why the hell not." Diana cast her vote, and gave Sookie a half-smile. "There's a bar there. House for smart people and alcoholics of varying functionality, it seems."

"You're welcome." She nodded, patting her pocket. "And thanks for the cookies. Don't let them see you sweat."
