I thought we might get together and plan our day of tea and shopping in Hogsmeade, if you're still interested. I think it's going to be a lot of fun! Owl me back!
*The fluffy, screeching little Jane Featherfax returns with the message*
Dear Miss Weasley,
It shall be a grand adventure! We have been separated to our own circles for far too long, and I have been feeling quite desolate without the guidance of my dear friend. Indeed, we must meet promptly.
I'm on my way to the Great Hall, so meet me there as soon as you can! I'll screen off the end of one of the big tables. I've been working on an invitation, and we can lay it out and get a good look at it.
~Ginny Weasley
*sends an owl off with her response, grabs up the invitation she's been working on and runs to the Great Hall to meet her friend*
*Emma enters the great hall, wearing her 19th century dress under her Hogwarts' robes. Luckily she has not had great contact with the modern Muggle world, so her sensibilities has not been too strongly shaken. However, the shopping trip seemed to be a grand idea, as outside her uniform all of her clothing was from her own time.*
Ginny? Oh, dear Ginny! *She walks towards her, smiling easily* I am so happy to see you again. But tell me, what ever are the invitations for? Are we throwing a party?
*looks up to see Emma come into the Great Hall and, with a big smile, motions her over to the end of the table she's screened off; there's not many other people in the Great Hall at the moment, and Ginny has parchment and quills scattered about on the table*
Hullo, Emma! It's great to see you again, too! Please come have a seat. I've got the House Elves bringing us some tea and cookies.
The invitations? Oh, remember we were discussing tea and shopping with some of the other girls? Well, I got to thinking that it wouldn't be very nice of us to only invite a few people, so I thought we might open it to all the ladies of the school. There's so many I haven't met yet. Do you think that would be all right?
What a charming thing these House Elves are. They come in, do their works, and then leave with such modesty.
*She listens, and raises a well-shaped eyebrow* All the ladies of the school? Why, there might be one hundred in attendance! My sweet Ginny, sometimes there are certain truths in this world. Some people just do not have the qualities of others, and should not be within their company simply because of their shared gender.
*A thoughtful look appears on her face* And yet... far be it for me to turn my back to such women, instead of helping them find a brighter future. I am sorry, Ginny, you are correct. Oh, I do hope I can grow to have a heart as pure as yours! This social is an excellent suggestion... But might I suggest that we reserve a room in Hogsmeade, rather than allowing opportunity for chaos? Furthermore, there must be an age limit. At a certain point, possible ladies grow so silly and set in their ways that it is impossible to change them.
*teapot, cups, spoons, sugar and cream appear on the table, along with a big plate of assorted biscuits; Ginny pours from them both and offers the cream and sugar*
Would you like a biscuit now, with your tea?
*offers the plate*
Not be within their company? There are certain Slytherins who think that way, Emma. They believe only pureblood witches and wizards should be allowed here, at all. And that would be terribly sad, wouldn't it? Because then you and I would have never met!
*nibbles on a chocolate wafer while listening to Emma* Oh, yes! I'm sure there's loads of girls here who could use your help. You've got a lovely, pure heart, Emma, wanting to help people so much.
*smiling brightly* No need to reserve a room, I've asked Madam Rosmerta, and with the big crowd we've got, she's willing to reserve the whole pub for us, for an afternoon! Oh, and see, I've put on the invitation that Gladrags Wizardwear is sponsoring the tea, because Madam Rosmerta said they could put on a fashion show. But what do you mean about an age limit? None of the older ladies I know are silly at all!
Why yes, thank you. *She takes the biscuit. This is one of the reasons, she thinks, that Ginny would make a fine match, despite her lack of wealth*
Hmmm... well, the Slytherins I have met have been quite charming, I must confess. Oh, but we mustn't go on about that. This is about the ladies, after all.
I am overjoyed that you feel such, my dear Ginny! Some did say that my beed to aid others was for reasons selfish rather than selfless. Can you imagine?
Perhaps silly is a poor term. What I meant to say, was that older women seem to have their own views on how the young should lead their lives. It is quite impossible to help a dear friend with another lady trying to rationalize her own lifestyle by forcing it on others. Considering that our goals are to help young ladies into proper society, having older women with older ideas would be counter-productive, don't you think?
*notices Emma changes the subject away from Slytherins, but that's okay with her*
You, selfish? How utterly ridiculous! You're one of the nicest, most helpful people I've ever met. They must not really know you very well.
*helps herself to another cookie while Emma explains*
Oh, I see. Yes, Mum tries to interfere some, at least with the boys. She adores Harry, so she never gives me a hard time over who I'm with. *gets a bright idea* Oh, but I know how to keep them from interfering, and still let them feel included! We just have to distract them. I don't think any of the older ladies are married, are they? Well, I suppose a couple of them are, like Psyche and Sigyn, but they're goddesses, so I don't think we have to worry about them. All we have to do is find matches for the older ladies, as well. *smirks*
I wish I could agree with you on that matter, but he knows me quite well.
That sounds like a grand idea, Ginny. Unfortunately, we would like this to be a night for the ladies, do we not? Inviting gentlemen would just provide distractions. Shall we just... decline to send invitations to women over thirty? However, if they request to be present, we shall indulge them. After all, this social is to provide instruction, something I am certain older women have already had enough of.
Oh, well, that could be the problem then. Sometimes my brothers, who really should know better, completely misunderstand me. But then, boys are .... well, boys, you know.
Oh, yes, of course this is just a ladies' outing. I was going to put up a poster, rather than actually sending invitations. Can't really afford all that owl post. Maybe we could call it the Junior Ladies' something or other? Surely that would indicate that it's for the younger set? I think there's some witches guilds that do just that. And if we let the older ladies come along if they want to come to something that's been called "Junior," they'll likely just sit in the corner and gossip. They usually do, anyway.
I think that is an excellent thought, dear Ginny! Smart idea, indeed! But what shall we call this? "Helping Young Ladies of Propriety?" We could call it HYLP!
"Cultivation of Young Ladies' Excellence?" That would be CYLE. Hmmm...
Great! I'm glad you like it! *giggles at Emma's acronyms* HYLP indeed! I like the second, except it should say something about witches, maybe? or Hogwarts? I'm not very good with word games, I'm afraid.
"Hmmm, yes, we must have something to remind each other of the thing that binds us. "Education for Witches and Young Women?" Well, EWYW certainly doesn't make much sense... though it would look pretty on the page. Perhaps "The Refined Adolescent Sisterhood of Hogwarts". Oh. That certainly does not have a pleasant acronym.
*laughing so loud she almost drops her tea* No, RASH won't do at all! The Hogwarts Junior Ladies League doesn't make anything clever, does it. How about Junior Auxiliary Instruction League for Bright, Amusing, Intelligent Talents?
Why, that is quite a mouthful! But it must be clear to those attending that our preferences are for ladies. Perhaps then Junior Assembly for the Instruction of Ladies of Bright, Amusing, Intelligent Talents?
Emma, that's perfect! You really are quite clever! Oh, I can't wait to get a new poster made and put up by the Great Hall. I hope loads of girls come to our first meeting. There's so many I haven't met yet, like that Anne you were mentioning to me the other day. And I bet River'll come and well, this is all very exciting!
*grabs her quill and some parchment and begins redesigning the poster*
