Under the sickly shimmering rays of the Baby Sun, a strange crop grew. Loudspeakers on stems periscoped from the ground, their heads half-telephonic, half-fungal in appearance. Their passage upward through the soil was marked by an obscene squelching, capped by a jaunty pop!

They popped up all over the grounds, spaced apart widely enough to allot coverage of a given area efficiently. They popped up like mushrooms. Apart from the squelching, they issued no sound for a full hour after the last loudspeaker had emerged.

Then the psychological warfare began. The loudspeakers began to play music.

The playtime was continuous; the playlist, idiosyncratic. The volume fluctuated. Occasionally a song would be broadcast loudly, to catch the attention of those who might have filtered the music into an unnoticed background. Then the music would return to a more tolerable level, something like the Muzak in a supermarket.

Well pleased with its work, the Baby Sun chuckled and gurgled its glee.

(( OOC: Please add to the playlist, in the Hat's journal post for that purpose :D The only guideline is that the songs cannot break the fourth wall. They can be songs that are meaningful to your character or come from their canon, if you like, provided this doesn't break the fourth wall. They can be songs that are about your character's canon, e.g., Hawkwind's songs about Elric of Melnibone, as long as the fourth wall isn't broken thereby. No visuals accompany the Baby Sun's loudspeakers, any OOC links to YouTube notwithstanding.

It is possible to attack and to destroy the periscopes. Their skins will be made of a hard metallic substance, their insides spongy and pinkish. More will grow to replace any that are uprooted or harvested. If uprooted, a periscope will continue to broadcast until its speaker-head is destroyed.))

The Cat shrugged, a disturbingly human movement, and leant over the carried to grin through the door at the other cat. "Hello," he said, his tail swaying back and forth languidly behind him.

He looked up to Mikami for a moment. "Well you're certainly welcome to try, far be it from me to keep you from meaningless pursuits." He turned back to Matsuyo.

Masuyo stopped pawing at the door and looked at him, bemused. This was clearly another cat, but his face was wrong and he sounded like a human. She mewed at him, cautiously.

"...this is Masuyo," Mikami explained. "She, ah, she doesn't talk."

The Cat proved himself bilingual when he have a curious mewl in return, tilting his head at Masuyo.

In human, the Cat asked, "Why do you keep her in a box? She's trapped in there when there's all this lovely grass for her to play in."

Masuyo went 'mrr' and butted the door of the carrier with her head, gently but insistently. She didn't like the box at all, and would like to come out now, please. Of course, if Mikami did let her out she'd remember that she liked the Baby Sun even less.

"I don't always keep her in there," Mikami informed the Cat. "But I don't want to let her run around out here with the - sun. Things are still catching fire."

The Cat lifted his head to gaze at Mikami, sitting on his back legs, his tail swaying this way and that. "Has anyone else caught on fire?" he prompted, using that ineffable cat wisdom of his.

He tilted his head up to the sun and grinned at it evilly. "I feel as if it's challenging me, with that constant shriek and giggle."

"People haven't, as far as I know, but I don't know who might have been injured. It's not a risk I'm willing to take."

He gave the Cat a suspicious look. "Challenging?"

The Cat seemed to except Mikami's reason for keeping Masuyo locked up.

"It's joyful visage challenges me. It is no laughing matter." His yellow eyes went back to Mikami. "Cats hold grudges," he purred.

"I don't think any of us consider that thing a laughing matter." And if there was such an individual at Hogwarts, he didn't want to meet them.
