Under the sickly shimmering rays of the Baby Sun, a strange crop grew. Loudspeakers on stems periscoped from the ground, their heads half-telephonic, half-fungal in appearance. Their passage upward through the soil was marked by an obscene squelching, capped by a jaunty pop!

They popped up all over the grounds, spaced apart widely enough to allot coverage of a given area efficiently. They popped up like mushrooms. Apart from the squelching, they issued no sound for a full hour after the last loudspeaker had emerged.

Then the psychological warfare began. The loudspeakers began to play music.

The playtime was continuous; the playlist, idiosyncratic. The volume fluctuated. Occasionally a song would be broadcast loudly, to catch the attention of those who might have filtered the music into an unnoticed background. Then the music would return to a more tolerable level, something like the Muzak in a supermarket.

Well pleased with its work, the Baby Sun chuckled and gurgled its glee.

(( OOC: Please add to the playlist, in the Hat's journal post for that purpose :D The only guideline is that the songs cannot break the fourth wall. They can be songs that are meaningful to your character or come from their canon, if you like, provided this doesn't break the fourth wall. They can be songs that are about your character's canon, e.g., Hawkwind's songs about Elric of Melnibone, as long as the fourth wall isn't broken thereby. No visuals accompany the Baby Sun's loudspeakers, any OOC links to YouTube notwithstanding.

It is possible to attack and to destroy the periscopes. Their skins will be made of a hard metallic substance, their insides spongy and pinkish. More will grow to replace any that are uprooted or harvested. If uprooted, a periscope will continue to broadcast until its speaker-head is destroyed.))

It was the music, the damned music that drew his attention.

Even in Slytherin he could still hear it, and when he finally managed to shut it out, it got louder. It was driving him mad.

So he went in search of the source, and what he found was horrid. "What the fuck?" he exclaimed, standing in a field of speakers just outside the main entrance to the school. They went as far as the eye could see. They'd dimmed to a manageable level, but it was still nauseatingly loud for Kuronue.

He had to get rid of them.

He walked over to the closest one and kicked it over, then panicked and stomped on it when, though it's roots were visible, it still the horrid howling music. After a moment, two more popped up with a sickly sound in its place. "Oh, what the fuck!"

So yeah, Kuronue can be found kicking the loudspeakers down in a frenzied rage, screaming to drown out the music.

Mr. Wednesday came outside. He stood grey-faced in the bilious sunlight.

"Won't do any good," he called to the demon kicking down loudspeaker-stalks. "They're like the heads of a hydra."

"Yeah, but it makes me feel better," he shouted, snarling as he uprooted a stalk, crushed the speaker with his fist and threw it as far as he could. Which was quite a distance. He kicked at the three more that sprang up in their place then paused, trying to catch his breath.

He tilted his head towards the stranger. "Haven't met you before," he said between gasps. "I'm Kuronue."

"You can call me Wednesday," said Wednesday, because that was his thing. "Too bad the damned thing doesn't take requests." He squinted up at the baby sun. Squinted with only one eye. The other remained completely open and untroubled.

"Ever know something's going to happen, and nothing can change it?"

"Not I can't say I have." Kuronue straightened and wandered over to Wednesday, pausing as a thought occurred. He began crushing the speakers with a screech of metal, leaving them in the ground. It made them quieter, at least. There was still at least hundreds left.

"I've never heard such dreadful music," he complained.

The trip to Paris had been a disaster. MacLeod had needed his help, even if the stubborn child didn't want to admit it. He left the Floo Room, his sweater still slashed and stained with blood, determined to find a beer before heading back to his room. His search was cut short by the blaring of music, the odd light and..
What the hell?
A baby face in the sun?

Grumping in a dozen different languages, the immortal wrapped his trenchcoat around him tighter and waded out into the increasingly bizzare landscape.

Mikami had stayed mainly in his room for the past couple of weeks, protecting Masuyo from fires and avoiding the rains of pink sludge. The only time he'd left her had been to attend Muggle Studies. One of the house elves had cared for her then, but reliable as they were, Mikami wasn't happy about leaving her side.

Which was why, as he slashed his way through a patch of loudspeakers, there was a pet carrier by his feet.

"Sectumsempra!" Another periscope fell, stem sliced in half, and continued playing. Mikami walked over to the speaker and stamped on it, muttering "delete delete delete" as the thing disintegrated.

The Cat faded in on top of Mikami's pet carrier mid-stamp. He grinned at the speaker, then up at Mikami.

"Deee-lighted to see someone making good use of the odd flowers..." he said, chuckling behind a paw. "But you do realise that more pop up, for every one cut?"

Mikami did a double-take at the cat's sudden appearance, but no more than that. He'd been at Hogwarts a long time, and compared to the Baby Sun, this wasn't especially weird. Not even weirder than Ryuk, really. Meanwhile, Masuyo was scratching at the door of the carrier, wanting to confront this other cat she couldn't see.

"I'd noticed," Mikami said, kicking the pink stuff from within the speakers away - it looked disturbingly organic. "But it might be possible to outpace them, or exhaust them somehow..."

This didn't seem likely, he had to admit. Even as he spoke, two more were pushing their way up.

The Cat shrugged, a disturbingly human movement, and leant over the carried to grin through the door at the other cat. "Hello," he said, his tail swaying back and forth languidly behind him.

He looked up to Mikami for a moment. "Well you're certainly welcome to try, far be it from me to keep you from meaningless pursuits." He turned back to Matsuyo.

Masuyo stopped pawing at the door and looked at him, bemused. This was clearly another cat, but his face was wrong and he sounded like a human. She mewed at him, cautiously.

"...this is Masuyo," Mikami explained. "She, ah, she doesn't talk."

The Cat proved himself bilingual when he have a curious mewl in return, tilting his head at Masuyo.

In human, the Cat asked, "Why do you keep her in a box? She's trapped in there when there's all this lovely grass for her to play in."

Masuyo went 'mrr' and butted the door of the carrier with her head, gently but insistently. She didn't like the box at all, and would like to come out now, please. Of course, if Mikami did let her out she'd remember that she liked the Baby Sun even less.

"I don't always keep her in there," Mikami informed the Cat. "But I don't want to let her run around out here with the - sun. Things are still catching fire."

The Cat lifted his head to gaze at Mikami, sitting on his back legs, his tail swaying this way and that. "Has anyone else caught on fire?" he prompted, using that ineffable cat wisdom of his.

He tilted his head up to the sun and grinned at it evilly. "I feel as if it's challenging me, with that constant shriek and giggle."

"People haven't, as far as I know, but I don't know who might have been injured. It's not a risk I'm willing to take."

He gave the Cat a suspicious look. "Challenging?"

The Cat seemed to except Mikami's reason for keeping Masuyo locked up.

"It's joyful visage challenges me. It is no laughing matter." His yellow eyes went back to Mikami. "Cats hold grudges," he purred.

"I don't think any of us consider that thing a laughing matter." And if there was such an individual at Hogwarts, he didn't want to meet them.

Keenan's response to the music is simple.

"Bliss generators," he snarls, eying them. "Dear god, let us have enough Pilots."

He thought about ANOTHER pilot he knew and shuddered.

"...even if it means talking to Anna, you fucking coward, KC."
