So, yes, the muns are plotting. Poor Maddie, the target of that plotting. Little does she know that as she goes into the Compy Lab to see what horrorswonders await her.

Behold, the BBS, which, only occasionally like the BBC, is calling her name.

Actually, I don't believe the BBC called Maddie.

The mun has a disgraceful habit of following bunny trails in Maddie's posts. Let us get to the point, if you please.

Maddie goes into the Compy Lab and after registering the very clever screenname of "MysteryAuthor" posts the following:

As one who is new to this bulletin board service style of posting,
I was wondering how does one integrate this into normal social gatherings? 
Is it an adjunct to mixers and face to face contact or a replacement for them?

Maddie really doesn't know much about these things.

Those are weird.  What are they supposed to mean, if anything at all. And, yes,
teenagers are weird.  Though, I don't recall being that weird.
What do you teach?

I think "ttyl" means "talk to you later"... though why they couldn't just come out and say that, I don't know. I swear, kids get dumber and dumber with each generation.

I used to teach girls' physical education. Not so much anymore.

So, come to any great conclusion on the internet or the compy lab yet?

Computers have a place. It is far easier to check spelling on one than with
a typewriter and to make corrections, but as a method of interaction, it is
somewhat lacking. Though, my reasoning for liking the machines may be what
contributes to the decline of intelligence in teenagers. I think it also
allows for more editorship of what is presented than face-to-face contact,
making it easier to be disingenuous.

It's a lot easier than using telegraphs, I'll give you that. But you'll never convince me that it doesn't somehow transmit Instant Stupid and Instant Lazy along with timely information.

Huh, "disingenuous"... haven't seen that one used in a while. You part of the over-thirty crowd, the English Lit crowd, or from a world where people don't get their vocabulary from reality TV?

I would have to agree, looking at some of the other posts that are still
archived
on this thing. Though, from what I understand, this is mostly an internal system
which does limit it's access to timely information.
I am over thirty and an investigative journalist and author. I have not watched
any 'reality TV' that I am aware of. Mostly just BBC2, though that seems to be
unavailable here.

I shall keep that in mind, though doesn't every century offer something that
can be marked as its downfall? I think that perhaps some of that is that the gap
between those intellectually at the top of society and those who chose ignorance.
I am sorted into Slytherin. The Hat seemed to take exception to the fact that I
did not wish to wear glitter.

There are a couple of good points, but in the face of seven bad, it is almost
a miracle we manage to continue living as the centuries progress.
I am not sure if the Hat keeps to this convention, but it used to be the house
where the cunning and ambitious were placed.

Most of the cases I investigate are murder cases. I have seen some rather
sick things.
I'm not sure 'cunning' is a term I'd use for myself. As I said, I just wanted
to avoid glitter. I'm almost afraid to find out where it would have placed me
had I acceded to its request.
