open rp: DEATHWORM in the halls!

Lezard and Steff had inadvertently grown a giant death worm.

All right, they hadn't grown it inadvertently. They'd done that intentionally. What they'd done inadvertently was to give it far too much growth catalyst potion, then allow it to escape Lezard's dorm-room-turned-laboratory.

Now there was a death worm slithering the corridors of Hogwarts, making its way up from the dungeons and roaming the halls at will. Mercifully, it had stopped growing at five feet in length. It was looking for food, to fuel further growth.



(( Wikipedia describes the death worm thusly: "it is reported to look like the intestine of a cow. It is the subject of a number of extraordinary claims by Mongolian locals -- such as the ability of the worm to spew forth sulfuric acid that, on contact, will turn anything it touches yellow and corroded (which would kill a human), and its purported ability to kill at a distance by means of electric discharge." Since you can't die at Hogwarts, this would make for nasty electric shocks or what have you, but wouldn't be fatal. Feel free to NPC the death worm. Attack it, flee from it, get shocked by it -- whatever you like! In the end, if nothing else avails, we're told the shoggies will eat it.

ETA: apparently the electric discharge is, er, rectally emitted ...

ETA again: let's say that if you manage to chop the worm in half, you'll end up with two smaller worms. That way some folks can actually defeat a worm without ending the RP for subsequent threads. :) ))

"Oh yeah!" Sunflora nearly forgot about them. "Mmmmm, maybe they'll be gone soon?"

"I wouldn't like to take the risk. But then, I'm not sure what we can do to them. Immobilising them only helps for so long, and - everything else I can think of either wouldn't work or would leave us with more worms."

Mikami considered this. "I know one fire spell, but, again, that might just make them angrier. If we could drive them into some place where they'd be trapped, though..."

"Mmmmm, a classroom?" Sunflora didn't really know either. "Maybe we should just owl a professor for help."

"That - would be the sensible thing to do, yes," Mikami admitted, annoyed with himself for not having thought of that. "I'd imagine the Care of Magical Creatures teacher would be able to do something..."

The former teacher would have been better, but Mikami hadn't met Hagrid.

"Yeah! Or Professor Kurama!" What? He was her favorite.

Sunflora went to her room to get some paper and crayons. She came back and held them out to Mikami. "Can you write it? No one can read what I write." Due to it being footprint runes.

"Of course," Mikami said, drying his hand off. "...ah, it might be easier to read if I use my pen, though." He had one on him. Of course.

He wrote a message to Professor Grant and, after a slight hesitation, a similar one to Kurama. It wasn't actually a call for help, after all. More of a warning.

"Okay!" Sunflora smiled. "Now they can help us with the worms!" So Sunflora presumed, anyway, she couldn't read Mikami's notes.

"If they don't already know about them. They might have run into one by now, we don't know how many there were to begin with."

"There might be more? Oh my gosh! We'll never be able to leave Hufflepuff!"

"...I'm sure things like this have happened before," Mikami reassured her, or tried to. It wasn't necessarily helpful. "In fact," he added, remembering something, "I know they have. There's a room upstairs with something locked away in it. If enough people working together can contain these..."

"Yes! Yes! We should form a guild to take down the bad worms!"

As long as Mikami was the guild leader.

Though making her the leader might give her the confidence to be a good god to the Shoggies.

"I'm not certain what you mean by that," Mikami admitted, drawing his wand again as he spoke. "But we should know where they are, before we do anything." He started moving back toward the common room door, cautiously. There didn't seem to be any deathworm noises coming from outside...

"We should get everyone that wants to stop the worms together!"

"Oh, I see." He reached the door, cupping a hand around his ear to listen before he attempted opening it. "Do you hear anything outside? I can't."

"Noooooo." Sunflora poked her head out. "I don't see anything either! Oh, except him!"

"Excuse me," a certain manager said, scooting by with a handful of books. He had catching up to do.

"Don't go out there again without protection," Mikami warned him, holding up his injured hand to demonstrate. "There are ...giant acid-spitting worm creatures. We're trying to come up with a way to trap them."

Ofdensen blinked, but didn't look that surprised. "I better warn the band." He went into his office (which he had moved to his room, his room moving behind the office) to owl them all.

"I don't see the worms!" Sunflora by now was in the hall, looking around. Then she toddled back into Hufflepuff.

Mikami stepped out into the hall as well. "We'll have to find them again, then. They could be anywhere by now."

Sunflora looked a bit scared (and who can blame her? It was a bug and it knew Acid) but bravely nodded and followed Mikami.
