open rp: DEATHWORM in the halls!

Lezard and Steff had inadvertently grown a giant death worm.

All right, they hadn't grown it inadvertently. They'd done that intentionally. What they'd done inadvertently was to give it far too much growth catalyst potion, then allow it to escape Lezard's dorm-room-turned-laboratory.

Now there was a death worm slithering the corridors of Hogwarts, making its way up from the dungeons and roaming the halls at will. Mercifully, it had stopped growing at five feet in length. It was looking for food, to fuel further growth.



(( Wikipedia describes the death worm thusly: "it is reported to look like the intestine of a cow. It is the subject of a number of extraordinary claims by Mongolian locals -- such as the ability of the worm to spew forth sulfuric acid that, on contact, will turn anything it touches yellow and corroded (which would kill a human), and its purported ability to kill at a distance by means of electric discharge." Since you can't die at Hogwarts, this would make for nasty electric shocks or what have you, but wouldn't be fatal. Feel free to NPC the death worm. Attack it, flee from it, get shocked by it -- whatever you like! In the end, if nothing else avails, we're told the shoggies will eat it.

ETA: apparently the electric discharge is, er, rectally emitted ...

ETA again: let's say that if you manage to chop the worm in half, you'll end up with two smaller worms. That way some folks can actually defeat a worm without ending the RP for subsequent threads. :) ))

Sunflora peered a bit closer to poke at it...but jumped when the two halves started twitching then moving in earnest.

"EEEEEEKKKKKKKK!"

Unfortunately, since she used Hyper Beam, she couldn't attack yet.

The manic smile faded abruptly. Mikami jumped backward, with a rather undignified "gyaah!", a spray of acid just missing him. He fired another Stunning spell at the closest worm, which didn't work much better than it had last time.

Oh crap, that looked like Poison!

"Uh, uh uh..." In a panic, Sunflora played her Grasswhistle, hoping this wasn't one of the times it failed to work.

Mikami didn't know what she was doing, but he got the idea when one of the - halves - began swaying more slowly, then slumped to the ground again, asleep. This left the other one awake, though, and not in any better of a mood.

"Incarcerous!" he tried, aiming for the one still awake. Ropes appeared from the floor, pinning it down, but it was still thrashing and spraying acid. They probably wouldn't last long.

"I'll try it again!" She used Grasswhistle again on the other one. "Ooh! Or Stupefy! Use Stupefy!"

"Stupefy isn't working!" Mikami pointed out, but since he could aim for the head more easily now the thing wasn't moving as much, he did try again.

"Uh, uh, uh..." Sunflora used Protect. A small barrier went across the hall, separating Mikami and Sunflora from the worm halves. It wouldn't last long, but it would last long wnough for them to...

"RUN!"

"We can't just leave them there!" Mikami protested, but he was running anyway, glancing behind himself in case one of the worms followed. Call it a tactical retreat.

"They're too scary to fight! And they're bugs!" Sunflora was toddling along as fast as she could, fully intending to hide in Hufflepuff until she was sure they were gone.

"But they'll attack someone else, if we don't..." He hesitated. "Well, we can't kill them, not here."

He should have thought of that before slicing the original one in half, really.

Sunflora wasn't listening. "HURRY! Before Protect wears off!"

There's Hufflepuff! Run for it!

They reached the common room, and Mikami slammed the door behind them both, falling against it as he did. The pain of hitting the wall was starting to come back to him. "Are you all right?"

Sunflora ruffled her petals. "Yeaaaaah. I didn't know it knew Thunderbolt!"

"And I didn't know Sectumsempra would leave us with two of them." The back of his right hand hurt too much, he realised belatedly. He looked down at it. "I think it burned me. I need to wash the acid off."

Sunflora got a good look. "Eek! It knows Acid too!" Sunflora pulled on Mikami's pant leg to lead him to the bathroom.

Mikami didn't really need leading (and he'd overcome his aversion to using the Hufflepuff bathrooms, by now). "It's not too bad," he said, once he'd reached the nearest sink and started running water over his hand. "It must only just have splashed me."

"You better make sure you're not too badly affected by it! You could get even more hurt!" Or....lowers Special Defense. Roll with it.

"I'll be fine." Automatic response. He glanced back at the door. "Those things are still out there."

"Oh yeah!" Sunflora nearly forgot about them. "Mmmmm, maybe they'll be gone soon?"

"I wouldn't like to take the risk. But then, I'm not sure what we can do to them. Immobilising them only helps for so long, and - everything else I can think of either wouldn't work or would leave us with more worms."

Mikami considered this. "I know one fire spell, but, again, that might just make them angrier. If we could drive them into some place where they'd be trapped, though..."

"Mmmmm, a classroom?" Sunflora didn't really know either. "Maybe we should just owl a professor for help."

"That - would be the sensible thing to do, yes," Mikami admitted, annoyed with himself for not having thought of that. "I'd imagine the Care of Magical Creatures teacher would be able to do something..."

The former teacher would have been better, but Mikami hadn't met Hagrid.

Sunflora went to her room to get some paper and crayons. She came back and held them out to Mikami. "Can you write it? No one can read what I write." Due to it being footprint runes.
