A mad tea party ((Open RP, River and A hand out food))

Cooking magazines had become something of a hobby to River of late. A had mentioned not too long ago handing out a meal again in the Great Hall, and one of the magazines she'd purloined from the old stacks in the library had yielded a recipe for 'cucumber sandwiches' and entertaining to plan around the eating of said snacks. Since the sandwiches were rather easy to eat, and there were plenty cucumbers available for the using, she noted A to join her in the kitchen.

There, they made scores of cucumber sandwiches with butter, vegetable, and cheese spreads, all to be served with iced mint tea. A sign at the entrance to the Great Hall invited everyone to partake, with the exception of troublemakers and ne'er-do-wells.

Instead of answering, A poured a glass of the mint tea and held it out, emphatically not adding sweetener.

L looked at the glass and then at the sugar on the table behind A and then at the glass. "He asked me to marry him," he said.

A blinked, but to his credit, did not drop the glass. "You would, you, you probably wouldn't have mentioned it if you'd said no," A said thoughtfully. "Or, or, not to me, I don't think. So it's a good thing, to be glad?"

L grinned a little, his thumb pressed to the corner of his mouth. "It is a good thing," he said, color touching his cheeks.

"Then I am glad," A said warmly. For L, that was a strong emotional reaction. "Matt is kind, and he, he cares about you. You will be very good to each other. It will be good to know that you are happy, and good to see your happiness."

"I am happy," L said, nodding. His smile became a little rueful. "He gave me a RingPop."

"Ring... pop?" A was a little behind on novelty candy jewelry, and the term was unfamiliar.

"A plastic ring with a sucker as the gem. It was strawberry flavored." Which, clearly made it superior to other rings.

"A perfect ring for you, then," A said with a grin. "But wouldn't it be nice to have something that would last?"

"I like the ring," L said, something close to a pout on his face.

"It is a wonderful ring for you," A agreed. "I hope Matt has a vast supply of them."

Because it would be cruel to give L a candy ring and expect him not to eat it.

L nodded solemnly. "I am confident that he is able to get more." His eyes flicked to the glass. "This should be celebrated," he said, leaning lightly on the last word.

"Yes," A said, deftly not noticing L's glance. "I should make you both a cake. What sort does Matt like?"

L frowned slightly. "He likes whipped cream," he replied without inflection.

"Whipped cream and strawberries," A said with a grin, ignoring L's frown. "And a big cake, of course, so you will both have plenty, even if you decide to share."

L smiled a little. "Thank you. That is very kind of you," he said.

"You are engaged. That is, it, it's special." Would he and River ever make it to that point? It wasn't something to rush, but it was a nice thought.

L smiled, his thumb going to the corner of his mouth again. "It is," he nodded in agreement.

"You make each other smile," A said fondly. "I, I, I'm glad. Glad that you will be taking care of each other."

"So, how are you?" L asked, a little uncomfortable with the conversation even if it did make him very happy.

"I, I'm well." He smiled a little shyly. "I have been spending time with River."

L nodded. "I am glad things are continuing to go well with her."

"She's wonderful," he said, with a silly besotted gleam in his eye. "Smart and kind and pretty and wonderful."

L nodded. "Have you obtained condoms?" he asked bluntly.

A stared at him, shocked. "What?"
