So, the talking hat (which was somehow more intimidating than a talking fridge) had placed Satou in Ravenclaw. The trouble was,he had no idea what that meant, and the bizarre little bug-eyed big-eared creatures he'd seen scuttling around unnerved him too much to try and ask.

He had, however, taken Kurama's promise of free room and board to heart, and a bit of wandering had lead him to the Great Hall, which happened to have a modest buffet laid out. Jackpot! Before anyone could tell him he couldn't, he took a plate and began piling on fish and chips (mostly fish).

That was the board part seen to. Now he needed to sort out the room.

"Ah, this one I came upon by ambition," Yukimura countered. "I wished for the Sanada clan to rule Japan."

"You're a conspirator, then," Satou said accusingly.

"A conspirator?" Yukimura repeated thoughtfully. Sasuke would say so. Kyo would say so. Yuya and Benitora would say so. "Yes," he said cheerfully, "I suppose I would be."

Satou pulled away warily. "How many innocent people have you destroyed?"

Yukimura looked at the boy and frowned. "Innocent? I'm not sure whether those who go to war can be considered innocent. And destroyed? Those with whom I am traveling have not been destroyed, nor will they be."

"Then how is it a conspiracy?"

Satou had certain preconcieved notions.

"I use one of my companions to further my own desires. I have deceived one of my most loyal followers in order to obtain a weapon, to get inside the stonghold of those who rule Japan from the shadows. I withhold information for the purpose of steering those with me along the paths that will lead to my enemy's undoing. Is this not a conspiracy?"

"How can you say you haven't hurt anyone innocent if you've lied to your own followers?"

Yukimura considered. "They benifit in the end, and they do eventually get what it is I tell them I will give them."

"You're still not a very trustworthy person." And yet, he'd admitted so freely. Paradoxical.

Yukimura picked up his sake cup. "No, I suppose not. Though, if you know my goals, then you can know what my actions will be." He drank and refilled his cup. "My followers do not serve me out of fear, though. If you see a boy who answers to Sasuke, speak with him. He is the one I deceived."

"And he doesn't hate you for it?"

Yukimura looked over the boy's shoulder. "I think he was angry and hurt, but he understood what I did." He looked down at his cup. "He came here to find me. I do not think he hates me." If anything, he knew Sasuke to be steadfastly loyal.

"So people can come here deliberately?"

He wondered if he'd see Misaki again, or Yamazaki, or Hitomi.

"So it would seem, but those are very few. I have only met two." Yukimura turned his attention to his food for a moment. "If this place is a conspiracy," he said, more musing than anything, "it does seem relatively harmless. You are free to move about the castle. I know those who travel outside the castle, to other parts of the world, even."

"But traveling still costs money, doesn't it?"

"Hmmm, that I don't know. I haven't seen reason to leave the school grounds. I am a bit curious about the state of Japan now, but with the changes I've seen in the nearby town, I'm a bit concerned about it, you know? They tell me here is quite rural and that cities are quite different."

"Japan is..." He frowned. He hadn't been anywhere else. "Is Japan."

Yukimura laughed. "It is that. And, quite different from here, I've noticed."

"I'm not sure how I'll get used to being here. I still haven't figured anything out."

"It takes time," Yukimura reassure the boy. "I'm still not really used to being here and I've been here about half a year."

Satou had more questions than he felt comfortable asking, of course, but one seemed pressing. He'd found how to get food, but...

"How do I get a room?"

"If you've eaten enough, I'll show you the way to Ravenclaw, though the staircases have a habit of moving, as do the people and animals in the paintings. Once there, you just select an unoccupied room."

Moving staircases, moving paintings... the idea was troubling. It sounded disorienting. But if he had a room of his own, he could hide from them. Just curl up with the nice soft scarf that pretty woman had given him and...

Clearing his throat, he pushed away his empty plate. "I've eaten enough."

Yukimura rose, picking up the bottle of sake. It was very good sake, no sense in leaving it. "Once you know the general direction, it isn't too bad," he said conversationally as he led Satou out of the Great Hall.
