So, the talking hat (which was somehow more intimidating than a talking fridge) had placed Satou in Ravenclaw. The trouble was,he had no idea what that meant, and the bizarre little bug-eyed big-eared creatures he'd seen scuttling around unnerved him too much to try and ask.

He had, however, taken Kurama's promise of free room and board to heart, and a bit of wandering had lead him to the Great Hall, which happened to have a modest buffet laid out. Jackpot! Before anyone could tell him he couldn't, he took a plate and began piling on fish and chips (mostly fish).

That was the board part seen to. Now he needed to sort out the room.

"I can see them, I'm pretty sure everyone else can." She smiled. "They're normal for here. Not like, you know, furniture coming to life, or anything like that."

"Not usually. Unless you cast a charm on the furniture. Would you like me to show you?"

She took her wand out from its hiding place in her sleeve, pointing at one of the chairs positioned innocently against one wall. she cast a movement spell (she had seen one like it done on some brooms by an overachieving mouse, once, but there were no wells here that she knew of, thus no chance of flooding) and beckoned the chair to come over. Its legs buckled a moment, and then it galloped across the hall to stand next to her.

"Like so."

"And useful," River added brightly, sitting in the chair. It danced in place a second and took her around the hall once while she hung on, grinning all the while. The ride stopped again in front of Satou, and she looked down at him. "Not to mention tons of fun. I was thinking of racing someone once I figured out how to cast it on two at the same time."

She shrugged. "No clue. Once the snow melts, I'll try it out. Safer to fall on grass than on stone floors, right?"

"The odds of that happening..." she rattled off a few variables that the mun can't be arsed to try and figure out, and then shrugged. "About 1752 to one, if my math is right. I'll take those chances. Besides, it isn't like any of us can die here."

She shrugged. "Mostly I don't think about it. Death is an adventure I'm not ready for."

"As bad as?" She didn't quite understand that. He was a little too fuzzy in that department to tell.

"Being is adventurous. The process of being born is adventurous." She got down from her chair, crouching in front of him again.

"The human female body is made up in such a way that it should be impossible for our race to continue. Not just the process of conception, but of even growing in the womb is so difficult for a single potential to manage that actually making it through gestation is a miracle. The stresses put on a human body just by existing are even more insane."

"If it were possible, but I'd think that, after you go through all the trouble of being born, you should use your body to its fullest. You wouldn't buy clothing only to wear it once, or food only to take one bite, would you?"

"Good point." She looked thoughtful a moment. "Yours looks fine. What's the matter with it? Disease? Cancer? Birth defect? It isn't visible, whatever it is."

"Impure thoughts isn't considered a birth defect. That's completely natural." She said so quite matter-of-factly. "While technically it could be a regulation in some part of your body that causes you to think certain things, but it's really all dictated by your brain's various functions. Is it your brain you don't want? Is it somehow problematic?"

"Hm, than perhaps a shut down is required. How unfortunate."
