Astronomy Office Hours!

Monday afternoon after the tumultuous events of the Halloween party seemed like an ideal time to hold office hours.

Miles had cleaned up his office with the assistance of Martin, his newly acquired house elf, so that it was in a state to receive company. A sign on the office door proclaimed office hours to be in session, and Miles sat behind his desk, a game of Battleship laid out in front of him. Martin had also provided non-magically enhanced cookies for Miles' guests. Miles had ensured their non-magical qualities by eating several himself, and he was prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice and share any cookies with his guests.

Now, leg twitching, Miles stared at the door, hoping someone would come in and express some desire to learn something about astronomy. Or failing that, about cookies. Or Battleship. Really, he wasn't picky. He just wanted a chance to meet some of his potential students.

"Yes, I would! I eat things all the time! And I've been trying new things since I got here! I love hot chocolate."

"Hot chocolate it is then," Miles agreed. He rang for Martin the house elf who went off to fetch it. "Well, have you experienced cookies yet?" Miles inquired when the elf had gone. "These are only sugar cookies, but they're quite good."

"No, I haven't." She picked one up and bit down. "It's hard. But sweet!"

Miles grinned, watching her eat. It was fascinating, the way that she seemed absorbed in the food. "You probably shouldn't eat too many of these or they'll spoil your appetite," he said, trying for a stern tone, but since he was smiling it didn't quite work.

"But I have a good appetite! I always finish my dinner! Except that one time we all saved a bit of it for Piplup and Chimchar, because it wasn't fair that they didn't get dinner!"

"That was very thoughtful of you," Miles told her. "How come they didn't get dinner?" He had no idea what they were, but she was cute in a childlike sort of way, and he was fascinated.

"It was because they didn't find Perfect Apples for Wigglytuff. But they tried hard! It wasn't their fault there were no more. And they can't explore well if they're hungry, now, can they?" She finished her first cookie and started on a second.

Miles idly wondered how many cookies Sunflora was capable of packing away, but chose not to comment on that. "No, being hungry definitely impedes exploration," he agreed.

Sunflora nodded her stalk. "Exactly! Food is important to good exploration. And all of us want to do our best."

"So what sort of places do you explore?" Miles wanted to know.

"Mystery dungeons! They're dungeons that for some reason change every time someone goes in."
