For fondue that took a month to make, it had better be pretty damn good.

Where Tako had gotten the powdered bicorn horn was anyone's guess, or really, why he thought it was fondue in the first place. But it was a wizard recipe! The wizards did strange things!

On Halloween, the potion was finished. Schlepping the cauldron behind his bucket, Tako brought it into the Great Hall to share. Only one ingredient was missing, and this he got by sweeping some dirt up off the floor. He poured the fondue into cups and dumped in the hair.

The cups began to change colors. Some were bright and appealing, and had a delicious aroma. Others seemed to be a bit rotten. Can't win them all, Tako figured, but overall the recipe was a success.

Mmm, cheesy.

((The polyjuice potion contains hairs from Beowulf, Dieter, Snape, Tinky Winky, Amaranth, Dwight, Nate, Dawnstar, Luna, and Homsar. Well, maybe not HOMSAR hair, but do you really want to think about it? Permission given by all the muns.))

"If you're just looking for a distraction, where to brain come into it?" he muttered, but moved on to a new target. "There's one," he said, pointing at the Dieter (http://community.livejournal.com/hogwarts_hocus/1695712.html?thread=90827232#t90827232) clone. Bond had missed the second half of sex ed, which was probably for the best. "Although he did offer to have sex with me when I got here, so you may not be his type."

She gave a low chuckle. "Oh, him! I didn't recognize him with his clothes on. He was giving demonstrations in sex ed...I don't think he has a type really." She leaned in to murmur an aside to James. "He does have a twin, though. An intelligent, thoroughly presentable twin. Lovely man."

That got him hot under the collar, and while it didn't show in his face, his shoulders stiffened. "I'm sure he is a lovely man," he said. "And how did you find that out?"

Vesper gave Bond her most charming smile. "Why, he showed me, of course. I had to be able to tell him and his twin apart after all, didn't I?"

"And what was it that he showed you?" His voice was neutral, but his eyes were narrowed just a bit.

"His most significantly distinguishing features, naturally, James," she replied, batting her lashes innocently. "I do have to know how to tell him and his twin apart, don't I?"

"Of course, in the event that everyone should end up running around naked," he said. "It could be a matter of life and death."

Vesper laughed. "Stranger things have happened, James. Just look around you!"

"I think I would prefer that much more than the one I did get," Bond said. "Just think. That dress would come right off of you."

She laughed again, lower in her throat this time. "You really think you need a magic spell for that, James? Perhaps your ego has come down a peg or two after all."

"No," he said, lowering his head so that he was just whispering into her ear. "But I thought that maybe you would want to try something different."

Vesper leaned in to whisper back. "James, dear. Whatever did you have in mind?"

"I could rip that dress from you, or make it disappear completely," he said. "All without touching you. It's amazing what one can do with these wands."

"You do recall we're in a public place, don't you, James?" she purred, forcing a stammer down. Fortunately her Snow Queen makeup hid her blush.

Really, Vesper didn't have as much of a head for bluffing as she'd like.

Not surprisingly, talking about stripping clothes off didn't make Bond flustered in the slightest. "Clearly nobody minds," he said, taking his eyes off her face and directing her attention to the number of naked people wandering around. "Aren't you eager to start a magical education?"

It was probably for the best that two people showed up then, because he was more interested in making Vesper off-balance than actually sleeping with her tonight. The woman he had a slight interest in, more a time-waster than a serious pursuit. The man was familiar, though. Bond narrowed his eyes at who he thought was Sidney Reilly.

"The cavalry's come to rescue you," he whispered to Vesper before turning away from her.

"Ms. Palmer, Mr. Reilly," he said. "How are you doing tonight?"

Laura smiled brightly. "I'm good, thanks. Happy Halloween, Mr. Bond."

She blinked in surprise at Bond's mistake. "Um. Can I introduce my friend? Dr. Alan Grant, professor of Care of Magical Creatures, meet Mr. James Bond. And...I'm sorry, I haven't met your friend?"

Vesper had better record this for posterity, because it wasn't often that Bond was confused enough to let it show on his face. He quickly recovered, though, and politely shook hands. "I seem to remember meeting you at my sorting, but I must be mistaken," he said.

"No, I'm sure you met Reilly," Grant replied. "I'm just borrowing his clothes. But don't worry about it. It happens."

Bond turned from him to Vesper. "Meet Ms. Vesper Lynd, of the Treasury. A work of art that is currently on loan to the fine halls of Hogwarts."

Vesper's smile was chilly; she was enjoying Bond's discomfiture. Something that should happen to him much more often, really.

"Why, thank you James. Ms. Palmer, Dr. Grant." She gave Grant a thorough, approving once-over, then leaned in to murmur something to Bond. "Now here's someone who looks like he'd fit the bill much better than your boy in the leather loincloth, don't you think?"

Grant really had nothing to say, because that once-over was hard to miss, and he realized that everybody here probably had much more interesting agendas than he did. Bond looked irritated by whatever she'd just said. "If you like that sort of type," Bond said, and Grant had the sense to know that he'd just been insulted.

"It's a nice night for a party," Grant said, trying to fill the gap in the conversation.

Laura cleared her throat. "So. Mr. Bond. Do we know how to throw a party here at Hogwarts, or what?" She waved a hand at the madness around them.

From: [identity profile] blond-bondshell.livejournal.com
"I'd say you know how to throw a diversion," he said. "I thought that parties were meant to be entertaining for all."

"Oh, don't be so stuffy, James. Some of us know how to make our own fun," Vesper said, and tweaked his cheek between two fingers.

"So, Dr. Grant. Are you a medical doctor? Because I've been having this little ache..."

From: [identity profile] dinosaurman.livejournal.com
Bond looked like he was going to snap at Vesper, or possibly hit her, so Grant quickly interjected, "No, not a medical doctor. A paleontologist. Unless you've got dinosaurs down your dress, I'm afraid I can't help you." It sounded stupid to him, too.

From: [identity profile] contra-account.livejournal.com
"A paleontologist? My, my." Vesper glanced sharply at Bond. "I do like a man who knows one end of a bone from another."

Laura shot her a quick glare. "So you've met Mr. Reilly, Mr. Bond. Amazing resemblance, isn't it?"

Date: 2008-11-03 04:59 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] blond-bondshell.livejournal.com
"If you like old bones," he commented, then turned to Laura. "Quite the resemblance. I had read about Mr. Reilly before I came here, so you can imagine my surprise when I saw him. The man had been dead for quite some time."
