Re-emerging (open RP)

After the disaster in Hogsmeade and the meeting with his God, Mikami had barely left his room for over a fortnight. The house elves had agreed to bring his food there (although some of them were still unhappy with him for lasering parts of the Great Hall), and he'd taken some books from the library on his way back from Slytherin. Most of them were first-year level spell books, but there were a couple of extremely thick volumes on wizarding law. Those also made good makeshift weights. He still hadn't found a gym anywhere.

He had to keep working, keep learning. There had to be something he could do for Kira, even here, even now. Something to atone for his failure, to make things right again. He'd been letting things slide, and this was the result, but it wasn't too late. The end hadn't come yet. It had for Near, but not for Light Yagami, and God was the only one who mattered. Surely that future could be changed.

(If not, then he'd destroyed everything. He couldn't afford to let himself think of that.)

But there was a downside to constant studying. He'd run out of books a lot sooner than expected. So now, a slightly pale, withdrawn Mikami was in the library, counting the number of pages in the textbooks and occasionally weighing two against each other.

Feel free to talk to him. He needs the distraction, poor thing.

The mysterious man in a bloody trench coat enters the library quietly. Most of Walter's time at Hogwarts has been spent looking for a door or a hole that he can use to go home, but nothing has turned up. He didn't expect to find a door, but he has things to do, people to kill, and a God to rebirth back home. Being at Hogwarts feels more like an afterlife than he's ever felt since his death.

Maybe the library will have a book that can tell him how to get back to his world, but finding such a book would be a challange. Expecially when he doesn't know where to start.

Mikami looks up and almost drops the books he's holding. That must be the religious fanatic who Maddie Magellan mentioned. (He tries not to think that she must think of him the same way now. He'd been so sure she understood, that she was righteous.)

He has to stand his ground. Say something to prove he's not afraid. (Not beaten. Not broken.)

"Do you ever plan to wash that thing?"

...that may not have been the most relevant comment. It's something, at least.

"No," was his only reply before picking a random shelf to start inspecting for relevant texts.

"I've known murderers who liked to display their crimes, but I would have expected some concern for basic hygiene, at least."

It's a relief to get angry, after two weeks of panic and despair.

"Simply because I have nothing to hide does not mean that I am displaying my murders. As for hygiene, I saw no point to it after I died, because I didn't have to interact with people anymore other than my last ten victims."

He stops looking for books to look at the other man.

"Most people would consider serial killing something to hide." He hesitates. "...after you died?"

He can tell Walter's dead, of course, but he couldn't have been killing at Hogwarts.

"My religion allows for the revival of the dead. Although God's rebirth is a bit tougher, and requires sacrifices. I've been dead for ten years."

It may be a surprise that Walter hasn't even attacked anyone at Hogwarts yet.

His braced leg was paining him today and he'd decided to take a break from his study of hexes. Raven on his shoulder and snake around his arm, Jezz emerged from the stacks with a book discussing magical means of theft and inclined his head briefly in acknowledgment of the other person he saw there.

He nodded in return, automatically, then scowled as he noticed the book. "Typical," he muttered, to himself.

The raven and the snake didn't really surprise him by this point. He'd met Tinky Winky at his sorting, after all.

Jezz rolled his eyes slightly, taking the "typical" to mean "typical of drow." He supposed he would have run into a human like the ones back in Faerun sooner or later, even if this one wasn't necessarily from Faerun proper.

He sat, very deliberately, at a nearby table, and opened the book. He wasn't expecting it to have practical advice on theft, else it probably wouldn't be in the available part of the library, but it could make interesting reading all the same.

He kept browsing, also very deliberately. "Well. I suppose it's too much to hope that you have a legitimate reason for wanting that."

He was aware that this might be considered asking for trouble, but right now he hardly cared.

"A legitimate reason," Jezz repeated. "Does no one read for simple curiosity's sake where you hail from, or does this need for a legitimate reason only apply to drow? I assure you there's no scheme to clean out your room in the middle of the night."

In any case Jezz had been more the armed-robbery, give-us-your-money-and-food type of thief.

"It would depend on the reason for the curiosity. And I don't even know what 'drow' means. All I know is that this castle seems to be populated mostly by criminals and lunatics."

Wishbone was still hard at work researching Animagi, since the spell to turn animals into other animals didn't work just as planned (pun intended).

Of course, the book he's wanting to look at next is on a just too high shelf, so he's jumping up and down trying to get it.

He wonders who was irresponsible enough to let a dog in here, until he notices it's carrying a wand. "Can I help you?" he asks, since it seems to be looking for something specific.

I'm trying to get that book! Wishbone jumped up and pointed with his nose at the book. I'm researching Animagi!

"...Here you are, then." He hands the book to Wishbone. "Animagi... Human transformation into animals, yes?" It makes an odd kind of sense. As much sense as anything makes when he's talking to a telepathic dog.

Yep! I'm thinking that since I'm already an animal, I could transform into a human. Then I could do human things. Wishbone wagged his tail. Then Mello can't stop me from eating chocolate!

He tensed. "You know Mello?" Was there anyone in the castle who didn't know one of them?

Soichiro froze. He didn't know if Mikami remembered what happened after eating soup, but Soichiro did. And he really didn't want to explain that or get in another fight.

Mikami noticed Soichiro and froze in turn, expression a strange mixture of hatred and embarrassment. He did remember, although he planned never to admit that to anyone but God. He turned away abruptly, and began studying the bookshelves rather more intensely than necessary.

It would be his damn luck that the section he was looking for was where Mikami was. Still, we must go on.

Soichiro stepped next to Mikami, looking at one of the higher shelves for the book he was looking for.

"Mikami."

"Yagami." He wasn't going to move. Not for any of them, especially not the betraying father. He wasn't going to react. If he could just stop remembering what it felt like to be swallowed and absorbed, he'd be all right...

Ah, there's the book. He pulled it down, asking, "Did your hair grow back all right?" He remembered it getting singed during their fight.

He managed not to flinch. "I concealed the worst of the damage. You know what caused it, then? Because I haven't the faintest idea."
