Wishbone found it! He found a copy of Aesop's Fables!

And after he dragged it all the way back to his room, he left the curtain open and went to find the other animals.

Scratching at Matt's door got no response (maybe he and Koopa were out, so he moved on to A's door, scratching at it.

"As long as it is something that makes you happy," A said, reassured.

Both cats pounced on the so-tempting tail at the same time.

Of course it...HEY! Wishbone turned around to tackle the cats. My tail!

A giggled as Schrodinger went after Wishbone's ears instead.

"They like your tail."

Wishbone laughed as he rolled on his back, batting at Schrodinger's paws.

Stop it, Schro, that tickles!

Schrodinger stopped nipping and batting at Wishbone's ears, pinning one down and grooming it instead.

Wishbone stopped squirming a bit and let Schrodinger groom his ear, closing his eyes.

That actually feels a bit nice. He forgot Einstein was still about, though.

"When they lick me, it tickles, because their tongues are rough," A told him. "But with fur, you would not feel the roughness."

Nope. It feels nice. Wishbone closed his eyes for a second. Oh! I'm supposed to be reading to everyone!

"I think they will forgive the delay," A said with a little smile. Einstein pawed at Wishbone's tail while Schrodinger continued grooming his ear. "But when you are ready to read I will enjoy hearing it."

Wishbone's tail curled away from Einstein, as he flipped back onto his stomach. His paws reached out for the book.

Einstein gave a disgruntled mew at the loss of his 'toy' and began washing himself, pretending that it had been his idea to stop playing with it. Schrodinger curled up, watching Wishbone curiously.

Wishbone picked up his book, pawing through the pages till he got to the first story. Okay, this one is called The Hare and the Tortoise, he said, making sure they saw the picture.

A looked at the picture, even if the cats did not. But their ears were perked up, and they remained alert. They knew they were being addressed.

And Wishbone read to them about the Hare, so proud of his speed, and the Tortoise that took on his challenge, and how the Hare was so cocky that he took a nap, and woke up to find that the Tortoise had won the race.

Well? What did you think? He asked everyone, watching Schrodinger. There are lots of other stories too!

Schrodinger meowed; she could tell when she was being paid attention to.

"That is foolish," A says, "to nap during a race. You will never be best if you stop trying."

That's right! He began wagging his tail again. And if you keep at it, you can do whatever you want!

"You are good at being encouraging," A told him with a smile.

I sure hope so. I encouraged Joe and Sam and David a lot! They didn't seem to hear me, but I think they knew.

"You are a good friend."

Both cats meowed, as if in agreement.

Well. Good. Wishbone ducked his head and covered his nose with his paw.

Schrodinger pried at his paw with one dainty little cat foot, as if possessed of a sudden need to see Wishbone's nose.

And if Wishbone was human, he would try to hide it further.

Then again, if he was human, he wouldn't hide his nose, it'd just look silly.

So he lifted up his head a bit, looking at Schrodinger.

Schrodinger gave a self-satisfied-sounding chirrup and A laughed.

"She likes you."

Well, I like Schrodinger too. Ah, I like Einstein too, but I like Schrodinger a lot more.

"She is more outgoing and brave," A told him. "But she might nip your ankles sometimes."
