[Closed RP] Wishbone asks for Near's help

Talking with Naomi about wands had given Wishbone an idea. He liked his wand, except he had to carry it in his mouth and that made it a bit tough, considering he eats and barks with the mouth as well.

But what if some jacket was made for him that could hold the wand? Then he could carry his wand around and bark at the same time!

Given that he's helped Near out a lot, and he likes Near and Mello (well, pretty much all the Wammy kids in Ravenclaw), he gets his wand and goes to Near's room, scratching at his door.

The scratching startled Near; he looked up from the notes he'd been taking, and Mello (but, most likely, no one else), had he been there, would have detected vague alarm in his expression for a moment. Certainly his wand is in his hand as he opens the door.

When he sees Wishbone, he smiles very slightly, the only outward show of relief.

"I haven't spoken to you for a while. Hello."

Wishbone set his wand down in front of him. I kinda need your help with something. It's a good idea! I just...don't have thumbs.

Near dropped to one knee to be closer to Wishbone's eye level.

"And I am sure that's very inconvenient," he agreed. "Tell me your idea, and we shall see if I can help."

I want to be able to carry my wand around without having to carry it in my mouth. I thought if I had some sort of jacket that could hold the wand, it would free up my mouth.

"A jacket with sleeves?" Near asks, picturing it. "And of course it will need a long pocket for your wand, positioned so you can turn your head to draw it. A pocket on the other side would be useful as well."

Ooh, even better than what I was thinking! And I could put extra jerky in the other pocket! And I wouldn't really have to pull it out to use it, just be able to grab it.

Near looks thoughtful. "Does it need to be a jacket?" He reaches for a piece of paper and begins to sketch. "If it were a sort of harness... simply pockets held on with straps... it might be more comfortable. I don't know if it would be as stylish, though."

Wishbone thought a minute. I guess it could be a harness. The important thing is that I don't have to carry my wand in my mouth.

"It should be something as useful as possible," he muses. "Would a jacket be easier for you to get into without help?"

Sure! He's gotten into his Robin Hood costume without help, well, except the hat, but he doesn't need a hat.

"Have you thought about what you'd like it to be made out of? It should be sturdy, but since summer is starting, probably not too heavy."

Hmmm....what's something that's sturdy but soft? Or not scratchy, at least?

"How about moleskin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moleskin)? That's soft and strong."

Ooh, good! I like soft things, and it wouldn't come apart on me!

"I can't sew, but the house elves would probably be able to, if you asked them. They might even have design ideas I haven't thought of."

I can go find one right away! Thanks, Near! Wishbone jumped up and licked Near on the face a few times before picking up his wand.

Near was a little startled, but didn't show it, and smiled.

"You'll need to show it to me, once it's made."
