The library here is one of the more impressive that L has had the opportunity to set foot in.  The detective is in a seat with a pile of books, perched in a sort of crouch, with the book on the table in front of him.

One of the surest ways to find information is in print- if someone went through all the trouble of creating, editing, binding, printing a book, then at some point they must have believed what they were saying.  There are errors, of course, but on the whole he considers them more factually reliable than anything available on the internet.  Which he is doing without, until Matt and he have a chance to go acquire electronics.

Until then, the detective can be found reading.

"Perhaps in several hundred years I'll be able to make sense of my current situation." He gives a small, cynical chuckle. "Thankfully, I can draw some inferences from partial data."

"Precisely. And we have always been trained to think ahead of our times."

"Which doesn't quite make me qualified to write an advice column, alas."

"No. Entertaining as the thought may be."

He shakes his head.

"But then, I am sure if you were to write one it would be more entertaining than utilitarian as well... if it were on matters of the heart, that is."

"Perhaps the change in perspective might do the types of people who seriously consult gossip columns some good."

"Maybe we ought to collaborate on one, then. It would make a refreshing change of pace for all of us."

"Well, it's that or a bake-off." He winks.

L remains perfectly straight faced. He does it very, very well.

"I am more in favour of that, since the results are cake."

"I will need strawberries."

And probably other things, but those are the most important.

"If you think the library will have them. Oh, Matt and I are going to find computers soon. Is there anything you are in need of from the city?"

He could pick something up for him.

It slipped out without thinking.

"I will search for them."

He nods, gravely. He can understand quirks- he's barefoot, sitting with his knees to his chest in the library, with candies in his pockets.
